Hip-Hop Manager Chris Lighty Dies

Chris Lighty

The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of one of its pioneers. Manager Chris Lighty has died after reportedly committing suicide.

According to the New York Daily News, Lighty passed away Thursday morning after he shot himself during an argument with his ex-wife inside his Bronx apartment.

Law enforcement sources report that the 44-year-old music executive may have been struggling with financial issues, including owing around $5 million to the IRS.

As founder and owner of Violator Management, Lighty was instrumental in the careers of superstars including 50 Cent, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, and Soulja Boy.

Some of his friends took to Twitter to offer their condolences. “R.I.P CHRIS LIGHTY THE MAN THAT SAVED MY LIFE!!!” tweeted Fat Joe. “I Would Be Nothing Without YOU!!! My Kids Appreciate YOU God Bless Chris Lighty.”

Nick Cannon, whose wife Mariah Carey was once managed by Lighty, also expressed his sadness. “I’m devastated right now. I can’t believe my big brother Chris Lighty is gone… He was a pioneer, a mentor, and a great friend RIP.”

@pressed much?, I don’t think people who commit suicide view it as an answer nor a solution. Suicide is what happens when your fear of life overpowers your fear of death. Either way, it is incredibly tragic and sad. May he be in a better place.

If someone in the industry connected was out to get him then his death will just be ruled a homicide and the truth will not be revealed right away if at all. It seems he was Extremely successful so unless he got into some deep cover financial trouble with artists like 50 who would threaten to do him bodily harm then he should have been content with his life. Let’s see what 50 has to say about this in a statement, because suicide is not typically NOT our thing! IJS

i am forwarding this to eoryevne i know (one of the IMPORTANT emails that should be read) in the past i have tried some of these methods and i know they are the best tool for more productivity but checking your email is like an addiction who emailed me, what’s going on etc. Perhaps i need a Emails Anononomis support group :)what i do find is that i end up spending more time trying to figure the email out than actually fulfilling it. my rule of thumb if it’s more than one para i CALL the person (!!) and talk the issue or task over with them.thanks for a great post!
