Lupe Fiasco Contemplates Retirement

Lupe Fiasco

Is Lupe Fiasco hanging up the mic? The controversial rapper is thinking about throwing in the towel once he releases his next album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1.

He took to Twitter to make the announcement. “This album will probably be my last,” tweeted Lupe. “Its been a pleasure to have all my fans provide so much love an inspiration for me and my family.”

While it’s unclear exactly what triggered his decision, he feels burned by the music industry. “But my heart is broken and i see no comfort further along this path only more pain. I cannot participate any longer in this,” he said. “i have spoken peace only 2 receive vitriol and malice in return. My brother seeks destruction my sister seeks attention paths to nothingness.”

He plans to step away from the spotlight and focus on his other passion. “My first true love was literature so i will return to that…lupe fiasco ends here…”

While he may see retirement in his future, he still owes Atlantic Records one more album. He was planning a sequel to his Great American Rap Album following the release of Food & Liquor II on September 25.

Before logging off Twitter, Lupe shared an unfinished version of his song “American Terrorist Pt. 2.” Listen below.

Lupe, who you think you fooling?

Saying this is your last album is the ULTIMATE publicity stunt. Almost like Frank Ocean ‘coming out’ a week before his album did.

Girl, sit down. People love you.

@Joseph Vryheid, I agree. Frank Ocean pissed me off too. He used his “coming out” (no one knows if hes gay or bi/or even cares) a week before so that his shitty album would sell. There were only 4 good songs on it.. His mixtape was 100 times better.

    @Joseph Vryheid,

I know!!!! There was once a time when I viewed Lupe Fiasco as the height of hip hop. His artistry was effortless and spoke for itself. After he became caught up in his own hype, I dropped off as a Lupe fan. Now he seems to just rely on making controversial statements and creating his own buzz that screams, “DESPERATE!” (and he’s not even that good).

I agree with the Frank Ocean thing too. Why on earth did we even need to know that information? and where is his buzz now? *crickets*

@Angela, caught up in his own hype? when? when has lupe ever been caught up in his own hype?
Lupe has never been about the fame and money. It was always music for lupe, he never tried to be mainstream. Lupe has fallen victim to what many artist like him have music business politics.

So cut that bullshit about lupe, you want to name someone caught up in their own hype Nicki, Kanye, 2Chains and a wholes list of other lames

    Angela Reply:

    @sexicaliswagg,

Uhh… Imma need for you to tone it down about 20. I didn’t say Lupe was about fame and money. I was referring to his talent that went to his head, thinking he can say and do whatever he wants and every fan like YOU will just eat that $hit up. “Lasers” was garbage, and mainstream might I add. He was supposed to retire after “The Cool” with “LUPend” but it never happened. It was all a bunch of hype.

Now he’s considering retiring? Boy please.

Point is, shut up Lupe. The music will speak for itself. He’s not that hot to be threatening his fans with retirement. Who does he think he is? Jay? I jumped off the Lupe bandwagon when that $hit crashed in 2009-2011.

@Angela, You sound so damn ignorant and are obviously a bigot. MAYBE, just MAYBE Frank decided to come out because of “Bad Religion” so he wouldn’t be branded a liar by his fans. Oh, and let’s not forget he was trying to save some idiot the embarrassment of calling him out with homophobic slurs on Twitter. Frank still has the “buzz.” Clearly, you’re not a fan…so you wouldn’t be aware of this.

@Angela, The time is coming when people start realizing that Hip-hop is no longer and if you are people like Lupe and other great hip-hop rappers trying to change the hip-hop industry or even bring the message a handful of people long for in music your not going to sell
Lupe is a great Rapper that last song he released called “Bitch Bad’ made history in my book and i can happily say it made history in others book as well
Nicki, Drake, Lil Wayne , Rick Ross and other rappers, didn’t even go thru the things that they claim they did make hip-hop become unrealistic and stupid

Lil jojo another chicago rapper just 16 was gunned down yesterday… Chief keef goes on twitter laughing… Lupe based his decision on the rap war going on in his own town. All u have to do is google what i just said and youll see its all fact. This is no PR stunt on lupes behalf… He hurting…

Lil jojo a 16yr old chicago rapper was just gunned down last night… and chief keef goes on twitter laughing about it. Lupe heart is hurting and so is mines.. from the senseless deaths and the movement of this generation and what it is doing this nation as a whole.. especially chicago. We are really at war here.. these niggas think they in Iraq.. google everything i just said and youll see why lupe whats to retire and i dont blame him. peace

@Chicago, People die EVERYDAY from gun violence, it’s not just in Chicago, And you all make it seem like Lil Jojo was some innocent little kid, Yes it is sad because he was hella young, but in my opinion IF YOU WANNA BE A THUG THEN YOU GET TREATED LIKE A THUG, He brought that upon his self, look on his twitter page, not only was he talking sh*t via “web” but he also went by the dudes house, YOU CAN’T DO THAT AND EXPECT TO GET AWAY WITH IT.

And I don’t even understand why Lupe would allow somebody else’s situation to cause him to end his own career. THAT’S STUPID IF YOU ASK ME.

    [Reply]

    Chicago Reply:

@cOmeaTmEBro, I understand your opinion. At the same time we all do wrong and God shows mercy on us daily even when dont deserve it. I know violence is everywhere, that i wont deny. But chicago is right now the murder capitol. its crazy here..For this to be the city of President Obama, things kids are making this city look even more horrible. They hear the raps and go out and try to live that life. I know lil jojo wasnt innocent, but who can be so heartless like chief keef was and to publicly go on an social media site and laugh? I respect Lupe and his decision, this is his city, his heart and yet through all he is doing, it seems like he isnt doing effort. I understand where he coming from..whole heatedly!

    [Reply]

    cOmeaTmEBro Reply:

@Chicago, I understand where your coming from, and I agree, it is sad how this generation is acting, but once again your making it seem as if Chicago is the baddest place in the world.

They’re are kids EVERYWHERE who listen to “rap” music etc and then go out and try to live that life style. And so what if Obama is from there? That doesn’t mean everybody is suppose to act a certain way just because he’s from there, I’m pretty sure he would be sadden at the situation, but I’m also pretty sure he’ll state that their situation doesn’t represent him and eveybody else from that area including LUPE.

It was more to this. Something about Chief Keef saying something to him. It seems he is tired of the scene. To be honest it was a time diversity was celebrated in rap much like rock. It seems that a little bit more the diversity dies everyday. All we gonna be left with is the fools that want to glorify stupid behavior that personally makes me angry.

I just feel sorry for all the elderly people and innocent children who have to endure this foolishness. In a perfect world, they could all be evacuated and — since these coons insist on continuing to kill each other over bullshit — return when the city’s terrorists are all dead, having been picked up out of their own blood and vomit.

Soo much hate from you niggas..I don’t even know why people are behind Chief Keef over Lupe Fiasco. That dumb ass piece of shit is just about as ignorant as a nigga could possibly be, which is sad cuz all of this publicity and fame is used just promoting violence and all that other garbage. Just about every song he makes is always “BANG BANG” practically saying nothing positive. He embraces everything bad about the hood and doesn’t even know that its bad.

Lupe is from the HOOD, an intelligent person that always speaks upon the problems that corrupt Chicago, and here you have Cheif Keef, doing a complete 180, and the sad part is that peeople in his demographic are gonna pay attention to Chief Keef more than Lupe. And I have no idea why Kanye is condoning this type of garbage too, collabaorating with degenerates. Shit what the fuck happened to Child Rebel Soldier Kanye?, stand behind your partner instead of doing remixes with people that barely respect you. Lupe is just tired that his message isn’t getting across, and shit I can see why he wants to retire, because no matter what he does, his voice isn’t making a dent.

If you do plan to retire Lupe? Just finish what you started and make Pt.2 a CLASSIC. Oh yea make a Child Rebel Soldier album with Yeezy and Pharrell pleaaaassseee, thats been long overdue.
