Days after announcing his deal with Universal Republic, The Weeknd debuts the mixed and mastered version of “Wicked Games,” the first single off his major-label debut Trilogy. The song originally appeared on his 2011 debut mixtape House of Balloons, but has now been redone and shortened by a minute.
Due November 13, Trilogy will include mixed and mastered versions of cuts from his mixtapes House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence, along with newly recorded material.
Listen to the original mixtape version and new version of “Wicked Games,” and tell us which you prefer.

The start and longer end of the original is 100% better.

@Briana, I’m Glad Someone Does!!! Because A lot Of Music Isn’t Going To Sound Anything As Good As His Masterpieces Of Mixtapes, ESPECIALLY IF HE GOES, AND BECOME “MAINSTREAM”!!!

@Love Jeffery, yea but the mixtapes never got the mastering they deserved, basically he’s getting his songs polished and mixing them up a bit to keep them fresh and making changes he wants to make, dont demand new music from him already he dropped 3 mixtapes in 1 year!!! give me another name that has done that

I love this song, the original, this new version is super balky and lacks ALL of the cinematic aura of the first. Uh Oh…..

The mastered version sounds 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 better than the original . I love the Weeknd , but if I had to fix anything it would be the quality of the music . The mastered version sounds clear , which is what he needs to do to alot of his records if he hopes for massive airplay . I’m not gonna bump no raspy , distorted sounding song in my whip ! Lol No shade though . XO till I KO .

though this version is probably more marketable, i prefer the original version myself. the rawness of the weeknd’s voice and production is what made his mixtapes so epic. i feel that this version ever so slightly detracts from the emotion found in the original

awwwwwww… NO!!!! I love the original!!! I don’t want him to lose his “edge” that’s what makes The Weeknd, The Weeknd! I love how he’s “dark” but still has the whole RandB Rock thing going on.. its addictive! I really hope the record executives don’t take his art away from him.. :(

its really artitsic and with any art, its open to interpretation. Now i did see something that closely resembled ethiopia at the beginning and from what ive read hes ethiopian so there may be some of the countrys history in there as well as the obvious love story as well.
