Rap-Up.com || Video: D-WHY – ‘Ballad of an Asshole’

D-WHY toasts to the douchebags and assholes in the video for “Ballad of an Asshole,” produced by Hit-Boy.

“Asshole, yeah that’s what they callin’ me,” the hip-hop freshman raps jokingly as he sits, laden with several gold chains, in a bar full of women. Known for his wordplay, D-WHY throws in a few more zingers in the video, which he co-directed with Jakob Owens.

“Everyone stays for dinner, only the chosen stay for breakfast … I’ve been way too self-involved/ I guess it’s my fault,” he laments in a moment reminiscent of Kanye West’s “Runaway.”

The West Virginia native broke down the concept behind the video. “I wanted to go a little more in depth with the imagery this time,” he explained. “For starters, the girls in the cloaks have a multi-sided meaning. They represent the women that I have treated poorly in the past. They represent dark times.”

D-WHY has been steadily building his buzz on the indie tip and has worked with Boi-1da, Dot Da Genius, and Casey Veggies on his mixtape Don’t Flatter Yourself, which was released this summer.

@Shaytan, This entire comment is just ridiculous. Music is an art. As any other art, music is also subjective. No, this isn’t the music of the 80′s and 90′s. We have plenty of that. Just because it isn’t like the music in that era does not make it bad. Personally, I like Nicki and D-WHY. You can’t sit up here acting like this music is inferior to whatever you listen to. It’s not. Your tastes do not dictate the quality of art. The people of the 50′s say the same thing about 80′s and 90′s music. They think it’s garbage. Does that make it garbage? No. So before you roll up in here acting like you know something- don’t. What you say is only an opinion. It is not your place to degrade another person’s work when there is no way to objectively measure the quality of that work.
