Dawn Richard Announces New ‘GoldenHeart’ Release Date

GoldenHeart

Dawn Richard is kicking off the new year with a new album. The former Dirty Money diva has announced a new release date for her full-length debut GoldenHeart.

The album was originally due October 16, but has been delayed until January 15, 2013 to accommodate a physical release. She has partnered with Altavoz Distribution to bring the project to major retail chains including Best Buy and Target as well as mom and pop stores.

“It’s a movement, we are starting here,” said the 29-year-old singer. “After all our hard work, we finally are expanding our art into stores. We wanted to make GoldenHeart available to all [Hearts], not just digitally. The project is too amazing to be limited to one portal of access. It’s time to get excited. This is a big deal for us!”

Dawn is also launching her first mobile app available on iOS and Android compatible devices. The app will allow fans to stay atop of news, videos, and make direct purchases.

GoldenHeart, the first in a trilogy of albums, has already spawned the Druski-produced single “’86.” In March, she topped the iTunes R&B Albums chart with her EP Armor On.

@OMG, Well wow you are just like the rest of te people no supporting great music. Doesn’t like 5 major artist come out in nov and dec. it wouldn’t do dawn justice to come out then. She is better coming out top of the year!

Damn, I was afraid that the wait would be this long. I was anticipating this album like crazy too. Imagine how Dawn feels; up until 4 or 5 days ago Dawn kept tweeting how excited she was to release this album tomorrow and now even SHE HAS TO WAIT to release this. But it’ll all be worth it and it’s all for the right reasons that this gets pushed back. If anything, she can tweak it around and take even more time to perfect it. She even said that she wants to make the album packaging look better.

3 months is TOOO LONG WE JUST GONNA BE COME OFF THE XMAS/NEW YEARS VIBE…. NO MONEY FIRST WEEK SALES 25K_50K AND THATS BEING REALISTIC

    [Reply]

    Chrisheart Reply:

@RED, 3 months is like around the corner. The 4 th quarter is over saturated. She wouldn’t be able to get her album is stores cause the suppliers are swamped with multiple artist coming out! This is smart!

Wow you see how fast people just don’t support. Her last thread all 50 comments now y’all saying bye. This is a business move that helps promote the album Better. The fact that fans fall or turns so quickly shows how bad the climate of the industry is. She has videos on the way and singles..so nothing’s changed at all. So why bye? dawn go awf. You are winning!

November would have been perfect, but I understand this.

I think this means she will release another single before the album, and probably two videos, so Im fine

IM MAD SHE BITING ASHANTI STYLE…ISNT ASHANTI ALBUM CALLED BRAVE HEART AND THE ALBUM COVER LOOKS THE SAME

    [Reply]

    KeepingItFunky Reply:

@youwannaknow, She is not copying Ashahti. If you actually did your research, you’d know Dawn has had this trilogy concept AND the titles for over a YEAR now! The actual video of her explaining it, is an exclusive here on RapUp! So if anyone is copying, it’s Ahanti but still… Ashanti is an artist in her own right.

Man people kill me with the “copying” nonsense. Seriously. It’s one thing if it’s blatant biting but NO black female R&B artist is doing what Dawn is doing. Writing/Singing/Dancing? Great at ALL 3?! No.

    [Reply]

  23. Will

I get she wants to promote it and what not and everything she is doing but it’s a bit of a stab in the back to do it one day before the release date to the people who have been waiting for it. If there’s going to be three albums just do it with the next one. I was pumped for this album this week… By January i’ll forget about it.

  24. ladyrt23

i can’t recall who chose this date first. Bran or Dawn? Nonetheless, whether she didn’t want the competition or she is truly getting things aligned, she made the right decision. Alot of those young ladies had to push their dates back this year (from Monica, Ashanti, Bran, and now Dawn). Wouldn’t be surprised if Keyshia Cole changes her mind real soon.

@ladyrt23, Dawn had oct16 for like 7 months. Bane. She changed cause her deal came out of no where! Lol

  25. OneTwoThreeFOUR

She had to push it back. Miss Brandy came out guns blazing. She wasn’t playin this time around. Dawn’s sales would’ve been severely affected. Good thing she chose January because in November Alicia Keys and Keyshia Cole are dropping too. It’s all about perfect timing nowadays. Hope she kills in January. I’m buying the album.

I guess if I could wait this long,I could wait a little while longer because I know it’ll definitely be worth. Dawn IM so proud of you and I can’t wait until the project is released. In your words the the is “not a fan base but this is a movement”. #goldenheartheaux

Ok I’ll be honest. Dawn is the only artist out that I’m interested in besides Santigold and I’ve been following Santi for years.

But I have to say they way she pushed back the date was really lame. I was majorly disappointed. I agree to do it the day before it’s supposed to be released was whack. However I’m assuming it couldn’t be helped. But then to come back with a mid January date was just like… well Boo! I love her and I’m still going to support her but it did kinda take the wind outta my sales, if you will.
