Queen Latifah already made that milestone of the being the 1st female rapper from New York to have a perfume line and you are the beneficiary of that.
The only difference is Queen Latifah doesn’t go around telling everybody that she’s the first female rapper to do something. You’re trying to own something that’s not yours simply because the person that it really belongs to doesn’t want to gloat like you.

@Justine, That is correct. There have been a lot black people before her – even women. Looking at Hip Hop only we got Queen Latifah, Sean Combs, Nelly & Jay-Z. Noticed that comment too and just wondered why she feels the need to do everything “first” as a black female hip hop artist?
Her fragrance sample should arrive at my desk this week, I’m curious to see how it smells like since I review celebrity fragrances a lot.

@NeutralPerson, Well, I’ve smelled it at the perfume counter and please be honest in your critique. Most industry folks are afraid of Nicki so they lie about her music and performances. To me, the fragrance smells like bubblegum and has no womanly affect. The fragrance is definitely for the KIDS.
GaGa is four years younger than Nicki but her fragrance is for WOMEN.
I look forward to reading your critique.

@Justine, I always try to be accurate. I don’t think that Pink Friday will be any different than most celeb launches. Lady Gaga’s scent is no different too, plus I can’t smell it very long. I wrote a very bad review about it. Still trying to be objective though.

[Reply]
November 4th, 2012 at 11:26 pm
So seriously and honestly… after watching this, I don’t know why people are so concerned about her every move. Because if you cut it down to the basics, she is a major star for the current time (don’t know her future – as nobody does) that deals with the same “issues” that every major star deals with. As a person in the spotlight there is no other way than to go through this whole machinery as presented in this series. It’s ok for me to see how her work schedule looks like, but don’t see the need to make such a big deal out of it.
This is my subjective point of view, I just don’t see or feel the “essence” of Nicki Minaj – I don’t “connect” with her. Maybe it’s because I think stars shouldn’t feel the need to show the world who they really are because they can’t show it to the world all their life and most importantly don’t need to anyway.

@NeutralPerson, Yes, there’s no need for her to show us how busy she is. The problem I have with Nicki is not her music, but how she presents herself. I know she’s trying to be different, but do you really want young people to look at her and think, “Well, shit I need what she’s wearing” or “Damn, I need to make my skin lighter somehow so I can look like Nicki”. Just my opinion.

@NeutralPerson, Everyone knows that Nicki have a gay following and Roman is a gay boy who likes to speak his mind and don’t care what anyone thinks about him. There’s a connection between Roman with every gay, lesbian, bisexual child, teen out there and that’s what she saw and that’s why he was created. Martha is his mother if you saw the Grammy’s performance and video and understand the history behind Roman Holiday (via rapgenius) then you’ll see she’s that parent who feels that being gay is wrong and that Roman needs to be changed by priest. There goes Nicki again doing stuff for her fans.

What did she do for black women that was so innovative again? I see Beyonce holding something more a door opener title than Nicki. Bey is a role model and even the president said that. Nicki…well, yea. You stans help me out, what has she done innovative and positive other than wear crazy wigs, weird clothes, and give schizophrenics a run for their money? “Still I Rise” showed potential, and the rest shows how it was wasted, in my opinion. I just wish she’d quit saying she did stuff for black girls when there’s so many black women before her, like, seriously, what she done?

@Trying to Like Her, -__- labels were dropping female rappers & not putting enough of a budget to support them. B.E.T had actually skipped the category best female Hip-Hop artist for quite a time… this is all because FEMALE RAPPERS WERE NOT RELEVANT. Then comes Nicki & Boom! Not only did she bring Female Rappers back into the spotlight but she hit milestones none have reached before… 1st Female MC @ SuperBowl. Highest SNL ratings. 2nd best debut sales. 8 songs charting @ once on Billboard. Most singles from a female rap album on Billboard. Collabed with Jay/Kanye/Madonna/Christina/Britney/Usher with only 21/2 yrs out… the list goes on & on

@wassup, All these feats & accomplishments and she still gets bashed by people on the daily. She’s proved to people she can go in on a verse & kill it and also make pop songs that can make a whole nation dance. At the end of the day, whether ppl like it or not, she brought something new to the table & revived an era to its fullest. Yes, Beyonce is a Great role model & extremely talented but Nicki is also empowering black women. The only black women this popular at the moment are bey, rih & nicki. Thats it. wish there was more, but there isnt. So till then, realize the fact that she’s doing positive things for black women.

@wassup, Er… I just don’t see it. It’s her music, it’s not… substantial. Pink Friday is better than Pink Friday: RR, but it seems like she took a step back. Again “Still I Rise” showed potential. When I think of Nicki, I just think of a person who could be a good rapper, but is just wasted potential. I can see her making rap popular again, but this whole “I did it for black women thing” just needs to stop -_- If she quit the weird voices and Roman/Martha crap and wigs and just showed us the real Onika and had deep songs–’cause ‘Freedom’ ain’t it for me–then maybe I could see what the Barbz was all jazzed about

Because your saying if the voices/accents went away then she’d be a role model… she would still have the same accomplishments & feats with or without roman/martha. At the end of the day shes doing Sh** for black females, but she cant please everyone all at once. No one can. So if you cant deal with it, just ignore it. Dnt try to criticize it & keep it going.

and as for the milestone she talks about for black women. i agree. last person to do these things was 10 years ago and she giving them a chance to come back because a before there was nicki minaj, female rappers were almost gone. but she opened the doors back up for them just like they did for her. so #Respect to you miss minaj

Rapping is a genre created by black culture. There are always black female rappers doing their thing. Nicki may have made the industry more interested in looking their way but in no way did she birth them. They were not created due to her. Maybe Iggy took advantage of Nicki’s white rapping style and fanbase but the black female rappers are always here.
