OVO meets XO in the video for The Weeknd’s “The Zone,” which appears on his 2011 mixtape Thursday. The artsy clip, directed by Abel himself, features pretty girls, a room full of balloons, and a close-up of fellow Canadian Drake. The song can also be found on his major-label debut Trilogy, due Tuesday.
I don’t get what everyone sees in him. All his songs basically sound the same, he puts white women on a pedestal, he loves drugs, he loves sex. So, what else is new?

@Quest, yes he sings about drugs and sex, but not in the same way as other rappers/singers. he sings about drugs as if they were a way to numb his pain, as opposed to just singing about it ‘because it’s cool’ like other rappers/singers. he sings about sex as if he’s been hurt so much by a woman that he never wants to emotionally attach himself to another woman ever again, only physically.
anyways, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion so i respectfully disagree with you. i don’t think i’ve ever heard another style like his and that’s why i’m obsessed.
refreshing to see an artist doing something different, his productions are always amazing, i think he’s a different side to rnb compared to the conventional artists frank ocean trey songz etc
LOL, from what I see, none here likes The Weeknd. I don’t really see why.. He’s real, he sings good, his lyrics are unique, you still don’t like him.. I don’t understand.
@BobbyBorisovvv, Quest & Kaye basically said it all. He’s repetitive and brings nothing new to the table. It’s always the same messages, just different lyrics. Doesn’t mean he can’t sing, though.
I like(ed) The Weekend when I first heard House of Balloons last year. 3 mixtapes and some odd videos later…nothing different. All I know is this guy likes white women, balloons, and only collaborates with Drake. Still waiting for something new.
The weeknd is a great artist, but the problem here is he is transitioning into the commercial industry…and I don’t think he should. His dark music should be left for the group of people who love him….I think the reason all his music sounds the same is simply because if you listen to 1 mixtape thoroughly, it usually tells a story.

@letmeloveu, This guy shouldn’t even compared to Ocean. Have you even listened to the latter’s catalog, thoroughly?
