« Rihanna, Justin Bieber, & Bruno Mars Rock the Runway at Victoria’s Secret Fashion ShowNew Music: Dawn Richard – ‘Norma Jeane’ »New Music: Solange – ‘True’ [EP Snippets]![]() Solange continues to forge her own path with her EP True. On the follow-up to her 2008 album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, Beyoncé’s little sis teams with British producer/songwriter Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) for the 7 dance-oriented tracks, which will be released digitally on November 27 via Terrible Records. A physical version will follow in January. “My references for the record were all Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, not just their typical Janet and Prince stuff, but SOS Band and their b-sides with Chaka Khan,” Solange previously told V magazine. The snippets sound good, especially ‘Locked in Closets’.
My only thing with Solange is that she seems to try a bit too hard. Like the over-the-top song titles and the eclectic production. Don’t get me wrong, the production sounds GREAT but I feel like her vocal range doesn’t expand to the eclecticism she’s trying to bring to the plate.
But overall, I’m excited to hear the project. Just wish she’d stop overdoing it.

This music is genius. Solange has found herself sonically, and its a shame that this hasn’t caught on to the masses yet. Solange, Dawn Richard, and Miguel all deserve endless accolades for their stellar work.
Kudos, Solo.

@Oh, wouldn’t say all that… they have different type of voices. Her voice sounds weird on record sometimes. But Solange can def sing.

@MmmHmm, stop listening to the radio then. Solange isn’t doing anything new. Dont get me wrong- I like this, but I’m a fan of Blood Orange. There are other artists out there making music similar to this. Do some research.

Though this style has been inspired I feel its nothing wrong with that, it sounds fresh and artsy. I think regardless of what or who her music has sampled from, Solange revives the style. I mean rihanna literally is starting to sound contrived. Diamond and We found Love sound like the same song, they each contain 20 words. lol

I’m feeling it. Just hate that cover. Get to it artistic fans. Make a new one, so when I buy this I don’t have that ugly cover in my library.
