Put your diamonds in the sky. Rihanna shines bright in her brand new video for “Diamonds.” The Bajan superstar looks gorgeous as she braves fire and water in the epic visuals, which were shot last month in downtown Los Angeles.

“Diamonds” is the first single off Rihanna’s seventh album Unapologetic. Due November 19, the project features collaborations with Chris Brown, Eminem, Future, David Guetta, and more.

@Meme, I made this comment before I actually watched the video, so I have to keep it a hundid (one hundred). While this video is deep, dark and beautiful….this shit was boring. I kept waiting for the video to pick up but it didn’t. Their are epic scenes but this video is lacking. The song and very hippy and hopeful so I wanted something more along the lines of we found love. I think Rihanna should stop shooting with Anthony, they growth together as peaked. I would have much rather Melinda on direction.

@Meme, You know you and I hardly ever agree however I totally feel you on your POV regarding this video. I would think w/ the hook “shine bright like a diamond” there would have been less darkness in the video. I’m all for growth, songs should not sound the same nor should videos look the same however something is lacking … it’s very underwhelming. In my opinion, you can’t go from the stunning visuals & cinematic shots in WFL to this. The song itself is ok, she does a good job putting out singles that have the catchy chorus but truthfully I don’t hear this song on the radio (pop stations, hip hop stations or otherwise). So let me ask you, what do you think that’s about? I have my theory but I’d like to hear yours.

@KaramelKisses, I agree that I haven’t heard this on the radio as much as I thought I would (although it does get airplay). I think this is a step in a new direction for Rihanna and listeners so it def wasn’t an instant gravitation like most of her singles. The whole album from what I heard is like that, the songs aren’t instant hits. They are less obvious, more growers. Which I’m down with.

@Meme, Let’s be honest, anytime ANY artist shows sign of growth not everyone gets it. I’m glad that she’s going a different route this time out. I’ve said in the past, I’m not a fan of Ri however she’s got some cute, catchy songs which is why I found it interesting that this song didn’t take off. Do you think the “rumors” of her getting back together w/ Chris has had any effect on the song’s success?

One of the most beautiful videos and songs I’ve ever heard!!! I love it!!! Rihanna’s really put her heart and soul in this one. Everytime I hear it, I just get chills. It’s just one of those records you can play over and over again. And I never doubt that Rihanna will have an amazing video to accompany her music. I’ll definitely have this one on repeat! Buying the album fasho!!!!:)

P.S. is it me or does that male hand and wrist remind me of my boy CB? HA! :)

This video is embracing the strength of love And what she has overcome. Rihanna was running from the light…..she stopped running and let go to embrace it.As many times as their hands pulled apart they always came back together.The burning of something as beautiful as a rose; yet the rose never crumbled, just as the man walking through the fire did not die. For her to float in the middle of the “ocean” is peaceful and serenity at its best.I dont really get the horses but im guessing that they represent endurance and protection from things other than love.

IDK, I could be wrong but that’s sort of what I got from that part. Nice visual though and she looked STUNNING~

Unbelievable.
Its like a movie. You can’t look away.
Within the first minute, I felt my eyes tearing up because of the story.
She’s running from something?
She’s letting go of her love?
It’s so moving. And yet so confusing.
I was expecting it to all be revealed at the end, but instead they left it all up to your imagination. Which I kinda like.
Overall I give it a 9.9/10, yes almost perfect, we’ve never seen Rihanna like this before, so raw, vulnerable, and beautiful.
I would have given this a 10/10 but they showed way too much of the horses.

I honestly don’t care for this video. I think its really cool that lately she’s been putting more creative effort into her videos and making it more of a story or performance but this didn’t do a thing for me.

Rihanna is happy now, the love of her life is back with her so I expected something a little more happy and uplifting but I guess.

Thanks to @ @Neysie for explaining this vid. Honestly I was lost. The visuals are great but this is poor execution. Every artist knows that you need to know, who your target market is…and this vid is not speaking clearly to the correct market. The Director is kind of selfish because the concept of the video is too deep for your normal average audience at home.Whereas with WFL the message was crystal clear.
