New Music: Skream f/ Kelis – ‘Copycat’

Kelis

Kelis is bound to have everyone talking with “Copycat,” her collaboration with British dubstep producer Skream. With a heavy hand of sarcasm, the dance diva addresses the similarities between her and her fellow females.

“I’m such a fan of that dress that’s why I bought it—five years ago/ I’m such a fan of your hair, that’s why I cut it,” she sings over the pulsing beat. “Come here copycat, you my puppet/ You know I love it.”

Never one to bite her tongue, Kelis declares her originality. “You could do it, I did it already.”

I’m so happy Kelis is back! Her last album “Flesh Tone” was the TRUTH! She’s so underrated, but yet so damn unique.

She’s been different ever since she 1st cameout, but the public doesn’t even give her credit. SMH.

Kelis is too damn old to be this insecure about her career. She been screaming about artists copying her style for years. How you damn near 34 years old and mad that you continue to flop while others continue to succeed? It is not
Rihanna or Gaga’s fault that you had less than 8k fans buy your last album. Maybe Kelis should recognize the fact that she can’t sing and these types of wack ass songs don’t help either.

@LMAO, How is she insecure? Y’all ppl are so dumb lol.
If it was the other way around y’all would be screaming “omg epic!” And Kelis has always been a bad Azz and say what she Want. Take it how you want, Kelis slays these copycats!
    Deal with it.

    LMAO Reply:

@Trillafood, I’m able to deal with the fact that you believe “Kelis slays these copycats” as long as you and Kelis can deal with the FACT that she is a FLOP! Remember Kelis cute & shaved her hair over 6 years ago and she is still singing about people copying her haIr in 2012….INSECURE! BETTER YET MAD THAT OTHERS DID IT BETTER & RECEIVED MORE SUCCESS THAN SHE HAS IN HER CAREER…SO WHOSE SLAYING WHO? LMAO!

    patrick Reply:

@LMAO, I wouldn’t necessarily say that Rihanna or Gaga did it better. I’d say they had bigger names and hype surrounding them and unfortunately in this world of music its all about who’s in your corner supporting you and getting you on magazine covers and etc. If Kelis had Roc nations support she’d probably be just as big a seller as some of her fellow musicians and if she’d come out as a newer artist when instagram, twitter, blogs and the internet were so prevalent I bet her sales would be higher and she’d have more fans.

    Trillafood Reply:

@LMAO, Rihanna nor gaga could never be as innovative or a true artist as Kelis. You just a dumb as bitch who don’t know shit.

No offense, but she make it seems like she’s an innovator that never copies or something. Everyone is influenced by something they like. She changed her genre of music just like everyone else along with the same producers and what not. I’m pretty sure that she has influences of her own. She shouldn’t be so serious about it and focus on herself.

    LMAO Reply:

@Blah, co-sign! Kelis is a pretentious attention seeker & too old to be concentrating on artists 10 to 12 years her senior. Kelis is a 34 year old mother mad that her career is not what she wished it could be and so therefore she shows how stressed & upset she is about the success of others she feels “stole her style” by making songs like this. How pathetic is that? She been trying to stake her claim on being the first to scream on the mic since “Bossy” in 2006. Damn near a decade later and she still mad that no one is buying her pretentious attitude.

    [Reply]

    Blah Reply:

@LMAO, I feel that she’s too old for that. In addition, she jumped to a different genre; She basically pressed the re-do button on her career.

    [Reply]

    Trillafood Reply:

@Blah, Jump from producers? You sound stupid and misinform. Kelis has always worked with different producers and she was never the one to stick to one genre. Just accept the fact that Rihanna is a swagger jacker, she’ll never be as INNOVATIVE AND CREATIVE as Kelis and she will never be a true artist. Kelis is what Rihanna wish she was and that’s fact.

    @Trillafood, I agree!

Kelis has always been ahead of time. She alone put Neptunes on the map; she was the first to do a Neptunes produced ablum. She has sung numerous hooks to hip-hop songs, all of her albums have been genre mixed with rock, pop, and hip-hop, no one could brand her because they didn’t know what kind of box to put her in, cause as an artist she is very dimensional; everything that people are doing, now that it is popular, are things she took a chance on doing when it was unpopular. In regard to her switching genres, she indirectly stated that move with her last genre mixed album “Kelis was Here.” She had said around that time she would be doing different music and she was the first artist to do dance tracks…I think her first one was with Diddy called “Lets get Ill.” And, she was the first to work with Dave Guetta as well; so technically, I think her lack of popularity is that she is always ahead of time! By the time someone else comes and does something she has already, she is already on to the next thing! I think she is a true artist, and others are entertainers.

@Trillafood, Sorry, She’s too grown for this, That’s not creative to dis people in songs, sounds like everybody else.No matter how “different”she may be,she does same patterns as the rest. Like big name producers, leaving R&B for techno. I hope she don’t get mad at Mariah, Beyonce,Xtina for taking a career break to have kids. Thats jacking Kelis’ style.

    Trillafood Reply:

@Blah, Y’all are so predictable. And no one gives 2 f*cks what you think. Besides the fact you don’t know what the hell you are talking about. Kelis has always done dance music since 2000, and she was never strictly R&B. I guess you’re too stupid to realize that.

I have to let y’all know how much I am leaning here. She did this! The shade!

Kelis flops all day long, unbothered. She makes music to her liking, whether it’ll sell or not. She’s a fucking veteran in the game. This song is just a reminder to all swagger jacking goats. ;) NOTHING BUT FACTS. GO KELIS, BABY.

Lil Kim stole her blonde and blue afro hairdo in “No matter what people say” 2000 while Kelis rocked the hairdo in “Good Stuff” featuring Pusha T in 1999

She’s just talking, being cocky, & iLove it!! Rihanna’s fans shouldn’t take it so personal. And Kelis admires Lady Gaga’s originality shes said it in more than one interview. She gives no fucks about sales & you have to admit sh’s been setting trends since she started.

not too crazy about the song, but i don’t think its really about no one in particular, sounds like a typical shittalksong. i remember seeing her somewhere, not sure if it was 106 say she don’t really care cuz she was inspired by the ppl that came before her. which kinda makes sense.
