Alicia Keys Gets Intimate on ‘VH1 Storytellers’

Alicia Keys

From “You Don’t Know My Name” to “Girl on Fire,” Alicia Keys performed hits spanning her decade-long career on last night’s episode of “VH1 Storytellers.” The 14-time Grammy winner got intimate with her fans during the taping in her hometown of New York.

She kicked things off with “No One” and showcased new material off her upcoming album Girl on Fire including “Not Even the King” and her latest single “Brand New Me,” which she calls her “autobiography.” Between each song, she shared insight behind the music and what she’s learned along her journey.

She closed with her 2004 hit “If I Ain’t Got You,” which is one of her favorite songs to perform. “I’ve always known from early on that there’s more than just money or things,” said Alicia. “I know it way better now, but I’ve always known that.”

Watch her soulful set in its entirety below.

Alicia is one of the most gifted artists of the past decade, and this show proved that. She has so many classic songs that will one day (probably ten years from now) put her among the legends that she adores (Prince, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, etc).

My favorite part of the whole show was when Alicia Keys broke down how she, John Legend, and Kanye West created one of my favorite songs by her, “You Don’t Know My Name.” I’m gald that Vh1 did not air the “Girl on Fire” performance because she sounded so strained. I really wish she would change the key of that song when she’s singing it live.

On the bright side, Alicia Keys has renewed interest in her new album, “Girl on Fire” due two week from now on Nov. 27.

I love Alicia Keys. She’s the pure definition of talent. Not to many artist possess the over skill she does. Reminds me of old school artist who don’t use computers to make hits. Much Love Alicia!

I really loved this show. Alicia is a beautiful person and she proved that so well on this show. I loved hearing her speak about her music and explain the stories behind them. I only wish there would have been time for more. I was really happy she sang “Brand New Me” and “If I Ain’t Got You”. Those are two of my very favorite songs. I was a little disappointed not to hear “Fallin” but I got to watch it online anyway. The performance was great as Alicia alway gives it everything she’s got. There is absolutly nothing not to love about this lady. I hope she always remains the kind and beautiful person she is and may she continue to be blessed.
