If Frank Ocean wins record of the year, it’s politically motivated. It’s a great song, but by no means, record of the year.

Gotye will get it. Months later, and that song is STILL on the airwaves…

I believe Frank Ocean deserves to win both Album of The Year and Best New Artist at the 2013 Grammy Awards. I believe Frank Ocean is going to win both Album of The Year and Best New Artist at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange album got great critical reviews and universal acclaim from unbiased music critics and unbiased music fans. The only album that I feel that has a chance at beating Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange album for Album of The Year is Mumford and Sons’ Babel album because Babel is close to selling over 1 million copies right now, if I’m correct. Hopefully, Frank Ocean wins both Album of The Year and Best New Artist because he was the best music artist this year.

I believe Nas’Life Is Good album is going to win Best Rap Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Nas has been nominated several times for Best Rap Album, but never won Best Rap Album. Nas’Life Is Good album got 81 percent on Metacritc which indicates univeral acclaim. Nas’ Life Is Good album is a great hip hop album, it’s time for Nas to win his first Grammy Award in 2013. The only way I could see Nas losing this award, is because Nas’Life Is Good album didn’t sell over 1 million copies and was considered a commercial failure. Drake’s Take Care album is a very, good album and got 78 percent on Metacritic, and sold over 1 million copies, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Drake is still the early favorite to win Best Rap Album. The Grammy Awards need to take a stand and finally give Nas a well-deserved Grammy Award win.

Kelly because Tyrese’s album wasn’t all that. I don’t understand why Chris Brown is nominated. Fortune was terrible — few good tracks here and there. Very lackluster and full of expletives. And to put him in a category with artists of substance like Frank Ocean and Miguel is a joke. Don’t know what they were thinking, but none of Chris’ singles have had the lasting effect that “Adorn” and “Thinkin Bout You” have, so it’s pretty clear what’s going to happen there. Anita Baker is a legend — I actually would love for her to walk away with an award.

    My two cents:

Melanie Fiona is so talented. I was really hoping to see her get some shine this year for her sophomore effort. I know she’s not out there like that but she deserves to be. The talent is there. I could listen to “The MF Life” from start to finish without skipping and then press replay! That’s me tho. She deserves more than just a filler R&B category nom.

Really proud of Nas. He’s a pioneer and deserves the recognition. Sadly, I don’t think he’ll win against the ratchetivity that’s hot at the moment. Smh. None of the other nominees have the caliper of Nasty Nas to me.

Happy to see Tamia get a little love. She’s another underrated gem. Surprised to see Beyoncé only receive 1 nom this year, but honestly I only liked the singles that were released from “4″. The rest was bland to me. B really wasn’t on her A game with this album. And personally, I’m not a fan of Frank Ocean’s debut album at all. I only liked “Thinkin’ Bout You”. The rest was blah.

Look. The Grammys are based on Billboard sales as well as popularity. If you all do a little research you will have your answer on the winners
Drake a grammy for Take Care.
Kanye & Jay will win for Paris
Chris Brown will win for Fortune
Fun., Goyte, and Mumford & Sons will win everything they are in
Miguel will win Best r&b song for Adorn
Usher will best r&b performance for Climax
Beyonce will win best traditional r&b song

    [Reply]

    Face Fact Reply:

@miles, uh, no they’re not. Grammys are voted on by the Recording Academy which is made up of professional musicians, producers, engineers, etc. The nominees and winners have nothing to do with Billboard, sales or general popularity. It’s all based strictly on Academy votes.

    [Reply]

    miles Reply:

    @Face Fact, no it’s billboard

    [Reply]

    miles Reply:

@Face Fact, can you look at that nomination list and honestly say that 2 Chainz, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Carley Rae Jepson, Rick Ross, and LMFAO aren’t nominated souly because of their popularity and commercially successful albums.

    [Reply]

    Face Fact Reply:

@miles, If that’s the case then why did artists like Arcade Fire, Esparanza Spalding, and Bon Iver (who did not have major mainstream/billboard success) win over Eminem, Justin Beiber, and Nicki Minaj in the past few years. Those people you named we’re nominated because people in the industry support them. But that doesn’t mean that just because they’re the most popular they’ll win.

    [Reply]

    miles Reply:

@Face Fact, if that’s not the case how come Chris Brown won best r&b album last year(worst reviewed album in its category. Best sell). How come Lil Wayne won best rap song for Lollipop(best selling rap song of its year)? How come Tha Carter 3(best selling rap album of the year)beat The Cool by Lupe and American Gangster by Jay Z for best rap album. How come Ludacris beat Lupe Fiasco’s Kick Push II with Money Maker. It matters less in the main 4 categories but the Grammys is mostly a biased competition based around money and popularity

    [Reply]

    Face Fact Reply:

@miles, so why did those people I mentioned win over artists that were way richer and more popular than they were? Just like any other awards show there are cases where less deserving people win, but you can’t make a blanket statement that the most popular person always wins because that’s not true. Of all the music awards the Grammys are the most prestigious because they usually lean more towards talent/cultural impact over just sales/popularity.

And you may not have liked The Carter 3 but it was a commercial and critical success. It got really good reviews so it’s not surprising it won that year. And Chris Brown’s win was the music industry saying we accept you back. It was more about his story than sales or popularity. That scenario happens a lot too. The awards are used as recognition of personal accomplishment as well as musical accomplishments. Lupe Fiasco has always been resistant to the industry, so is it surprising that he lost an award voting on by industry insiders? You can say it’s about industry politics, but it’s not about popularity.

    miles Reply:

@Face Fact, Nope. Chris Brown won for sales. Wayne won for sales. Bon Iver was extremely popular and had good sales. Only people that didn’t know about his popularity was ignorant black people. Idk who that other person. I don’t care how they say the awards won. they aren’t won that way. Just like Sports, Reality shows, and the overall media the Grammys are based around popularity and money. votes mean nothing. The show is not based over the quality of people music. Its unfair and biased just like every other award show(at least now it is. it wasn’t always like that). If anyone really believes its based on “popular vote” they are an idiot

    [Reply]

    Face Fact Reply:

@miles, ok it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about because Bon Iver was not extremely popular. His album didn’t even debut in the top 10 on billboard. Actually when he won the award twitter was trending something like “who is Bon Iver?”. I gave clear examples of less popular artists winning Grammy awards over superstars in the last 2 years and you still try and act like what you’re saying is true. Go ahead and live your delusional world. Clearly you enjoy it there.

Beyonce nominated for Love on Top? A 2011 song? Okay…Anything to get her name on the show I suppose.

2 Chainz for Rap Album? Are you serious?

I have a feeling Miguel might win “Best R&B Song” while Usher might beat him in the “Best R&B Performance” category. I don’t think Estelle will win that but it’s awesome to see her get recognized because that song was beautifully sung. Melanie Fiona better win for “Wrong Side of A Love Song.” That song is R&B TO THE CORE. Adele will win Best Pop Solo performance and I HOPE Pink wins for Best Pop Vocal Album. I’m surprised she didn’t get more nominations. “Try” will probably be nominated next year. That song is one of her best.

I like Frank, but I really do think it’s obvious that they’re throwing him a lot of bones. Freebies if you will. I wouldn’t say none of the songs on his album were bad, and he definitely deserves to win something, but a Grammy for Channel Orange will be bad. As an album, it sold well, but honestly, 96% of the songs on it sound the same. If an album like that can win I’ll be disappointed in the Grammys and no longer think of them as a credible award ceremony. And I definitely understand why Nicki wasn’t nominated and I’m a fan. Her album catered to two different genres of music and with no one being used to that, her album couldn’t be nominated because it wasn’t top 5 quality in hip hop. And it was in pop, but she’s going back to hip hop so they don’t want to paint a hip hop artist as a pop artist. Maybe next year she’ll win. I’m rooting for her

I’m a fan of Nicki, but it really doesn’t surprise me that she didn’t get a nomination. While PF:RR had several good songs on it, it wasn’t really grammy worthy. It definitely couldn’t be thrown in the rap category because of all the pop songs included on it. Had the album consisted of the songs from the Re-Up and about half of the tracks from Roman Reloaded, she may have stood a chance. She definitely has the ability to put together good tracks, but sometimes it seems like her workload interferes with the quality of the music she puts out. Hopefully she takes this into consideration when she starts recording her next album.

Nas should get all four. Nas is so well deserving with this album, Life is Good! I listen to this excellent cd each and everyday. Real talk and real music. It is real hip hop and not some shake your but music like Jay and Kanye’s garbage. Those guys sold their sold to please people that dont even like them, if you know what I mean. I hate when people get rich and change. Jay was the man at one time. Dude, made good music. Nas deserve these awards all day and everyday. His music is so different than anyone elses music. He is the purest and sharpest lyricist that ever blessed a mic. Nas deserves this win. The man stands alone! Even if Jay wins it won’t mean anything about the Watch the Throne Album because he partnered with a guy that wears glitter. Give me a brake!!! And…Drake’s album…Dude please! Flat out Garbage!!!

    [Reply]

    TRA Reply:

@happy, I agree with you that Nas deserves to win Best Rap Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards, but I disagree with you calling Kanye West and Jay-Z’s music garbage. Kanye West has made 5 great platinum, solo albums. Kanye West’s College Dropout is a classic. Kanye West’s Late Registration is a near masterpiece. Kanye West’s Graduation is a good album. Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak is a good album. Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got great critical acclaim, and universal acclaim from unbiased music critics. Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got 95 percent on Metacritic which means it is a masterpiece. All of Kanye West’s solo albums have been great, and that is the reason why Kanye West has won 18 Grammy Awards in his hall of fame rap career.

As for Jay-Z, he is second to none when it comes to putting out great music. Jay-Z has made 12 straight platinum, solo albums that have gone No.1 on the Billboard Charts. Jay-Z’s The Blueprint, The Black Album, Reasonable Doubt, and American Gangster are considered by unbiased music critics and unbiased music fans to be classic albums. Jay-Z is the most successful, relevant rapper of his generation right now.

I don’t understand why old school mainstream hip hop fans and old school underground hip hop fans hate Drake’s music. Drake makes good music all the time, even though Drake is a mainstream hip hop artist. I believe Drake’s Take Care album was a very, good mainstream hip hop album. People need to seperate mainstream hip hop music from underground hip hop music and judge both sides fair at all times. Drake’s mainstream music is no different from LL Cool J, Ja-Rule, and other rappers who combine R&B and Hip-Hop in their music. I don’t believe Drake is a better rapper than LL Cool J, but Drake is similar to LL Cool J because LL Cool J use to make songs for ladies. I have heard terrible rappers who are far worse than Drake. People need to realize that mainstream hip hop is different from underground hip hop. People need to judge mainstream hip hop with an open mind.

    Nas... Reply:

@TRA, should get all four. Nas’ album was a pure hip hop album with good creative and lyricism. That album was good. Now, Jay Z and kanye are probably going to win because the media loves them and the song sold, but how can you deny the artistic honesty in daughters? it wasn’t to sell records, but just a pure hip hop song. Life is Good was a pure hip hop album with no crossover appeal like Take Care which has r and b in it or rick ross fake ass. Nas deserves this.

    [Reply]

    happy Reply:

@TRA, You are catergorizing hip hop genre of music. HipHop is one. Don’t split it with the word mainstream. I am not knocking Jay nor Kanye for the their success in Hip Hop. I have supported Jay from day 1 and still do, but you can’t say that he has changed with his music. Yes, it is different time and place, but you still have to stay with what who and what that got you there. Nas, Life is Good album means something. The songs like Daughters, World is Addiction and Accident Murderers have social and political importance. Nas deserves this because he stayed true to the Hip Hop genre of music and he is still winning for over 20 years. @TRA, please know this and how important it is. One Love

    [Reply]

    TRA Reply:

@happy, I am not trying to catergorized hip hop music at all. There is no question that Drake makes music that is appealing to the biased mainstream media. Drake makes mainstream music for hip hop fans and pop fans. Everybody in hip hop knows that Drake is a mainstream hip hop artist who makes mainstream hip hop music and mainstream pop music. Drake’s music gets more radio airplay than the majority of rappers in hip hop right now. I understand that Hip-Hop is suppose to be one community, but the biased mainstream media and radio stations totally disagree with you. If Hip-Hop is one community, then why does Drake get more radio airplay than Nas, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, BIG K.R.I.T., Common, Big Boi, and other rappers in hip hop? One of the main reasons why Drake gets the most radio airplay is for the simple reason that Drake is a very, talented music artist who makes safe music that doesn’t always challenge music fans to think outside the box.

The majority of Drake’s songs that gets the most radio airplay talks about money, fame, and women in a dumbed down way that people could feel comfort in listening to, even if all music fans don’t live the rich lifestyle that Drake lives. Nas, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and Common make political and social songs that the majority of mainstream hip hop fans who only listen to the radio can’t always relate to, and that’s one of the main reasons why Nas, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, and other rappers have a much harder time getting radio airplay in today’s generation.

Some of hip hop fans don’t listen to all of hip hop music. Some hip hop fans only listen to mainstream music that gets the most radio airplay. I really like Drake’s music, but Drake is the not the only good rapper who should get the majority of radio airplay. I believe every rapper should get the same amount of radio airplay to prove whether each rapper is great, or bad. If Drake was making the same political songs that Nas makes, there is a 80 percent chance that Drake would not get the same radio airplay he gets right now.

@TRA, very good comparison with drake and LL cool j because i remember telling someone months ago that drake is where LL was back at one time when he was appealing to young ladies, and still somewhat staying true to being an MC, Ja rule and Nelly kinda did the same thing, and they were successful as-well.
