Dawn Richard pours her heart out in the trailer for “’86,” the first single off her upcoming debut GoldenHeart. The former Danity Kane member reflects on the past in the short film, directed by Eugene Lee Yang (“Wild N’ Faith”).

“‘86’ is an homage to my past,” explains Dawn. “Everyone wants to look at the Danity Kane thing as a negative but it’s a positive. The girls have been and continue to be a guiding force in my journey throughout this music business.”

The video will debut next month, while GoldenHeart arrives in stores on January 15.

Everyone says he tries to be different but it’s been like 3 years now. Is it different or is it really who she is. People have to be pushed in this game

…It’s a story about her journey, self-discovery, insecurities & the whole Danity Kane saga. You’ll understand it more when you see the whole video. It’s just not a long enough trailer.

P.S. I think she wanted us to be confused…
