Rap-Up.com || Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey Chat with Fans at ‘Idol’ Screening

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey were back on the job, attending a live Q&A during the season premiere screening of “American Idol” at Royce Hall at UCLA on Wednesday. Both ladies looked lovely as they fielded questions from their fans alongside fellow judges Keith Urban and Randy Jackson, and host Ryan Seacrest.

Mariah was battling a bit of bronchitis, but she happily took questions from her Lambs. “It’s ‘American Idol.’ It changed trends in music, it’s created massive superstars,” said MC of her decision to do the show. “I just had two babies, Roc and Roe, and I thought it would be a good thing for me to have something that was a little more stable than constantly working.”

Nicki consulted with those close to her including her Young Money boss before making her decision. “The last person I asked was Lil Wayne and he said absolutely do it,” explained Nicki. “That was my last thing where I found peace with it.”

Later that night, Nicki found out that she won the award for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist at the People’s Choice Awards. “Thanks Barbz!!!!!! My 1st People’s Choice Award. Yaaayyyyy!!!!!! How exciting… :) Nice of them to think of me. XOXO!!!!!!” she tweeted.

@MC, Agreed. There is a definite difference between Rap & Hip-Hop. Nicki definitely falls in the former category. In the mainstream sense:

Meek Mills, Rick Ross, Nicki, Lil Wayne, Drake,(Rap)

Joey Bada$$, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, (Hip-Hop)

In some cases the lines blur but Nicki is definitely not Hip-Hop. Not at the current moment. Influenced by Hip-Hop? Definitely! Hip-Hop? NO!

I have five things to say about this video.

1. Notice when Mariah talk someone in the crowd yell “Nicki” and when Nicki talk someone yell “Mariah” LoL!

2.I only watch American Idol when they are doing auditions because those parts be the funniest!

3.I love Nicki Minaj but I don’t think she should of been a judge only because she don’t have that many years in the industry like the others do regardless of how successful she is.

4. I believe people are gonna watch this because of Mariah and Nicki.

5. Y’all gotta agree with me on this one but Simon Cowell will always be the BEST judge on the show.

@Diego, Because Nicki is a MAJOR b*tch. Its known in the industry. Cant deny Nicki’s success however its totally obvious how success has changed Nicki’s attitude and disposition. Nicki felt she was just as LARGE as Mariah and wanted Mariah to acknowledge her as a big star too.

Really Nicki? The music don’t matter? Just the fact that you have to entertain…smh….thats all she is, and not a good one….she should not be judging. Clearly from her answer music comes last & entertainment comes first! Mariah said it best, looking for someone unique…something Nicki can never be ahahahahaha. P.S. Ryan Seacrest is so blah to me.

I don’t get how you Nicki fans say she is the star of the show but Mariah got paid 18 Million dollars and Nicki got 12? Btw Mariah Carey gave birth to twins, she looks good for a mother if twins trust me. Mariah will always be better than Nicki, even Nicki agrees that she is one of the best singers of all time so I believe Nicki understands this, you nicki fans should understand you.

Despite everything that went on during the taping of the show, these ladies handled themselves very well! I didn’t like that fact that Mariah Carey reverted back to herself when answering the questions. Understood that these judges have busy lifestyles, but Nicki Minaj gets the utmost respect for staying and acknowledging her fans. Overall looks like an amazing season.
