Nicki Minaj Performs ‘Freedom’ on ‘Ellen,’ Dishes on Love Life & Mariah Feud

Nicki Minaj and Ellen

Fresh from her appearance on “Leno” last night, Nicki Minaj was back on the couch on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The red-hot rapper spoke about her “strenuous” experience taping “American Idol,” her feud with Mariah Carey, and her dating life.

“It was just two big ol’ divas, I guess,” said Nicki, who explained how it all started. “I heard them saying Mariah doesn’t want you on the panel, but I was saying, ‘No, I’m friends with Mariah.’ And I was like arguing with people, like, ‘Don’t believe everything you read. You’re crazy!’”

While she didn’t want to believe it, she eventually noticed the awkwardness. “I went there and I started feeling a little bit of the shade. I overcompensated by being crazier.”

According to Nicki, the dueling divas have buried the hatchet. “We’re fine. I cannot hold a grudge against Mariah Carey. What people don’t understand is that I’ve looked up to her for so many years. … I don’t know if she’s gotten over it, but I have.”

However, she is not looking forward to the live shows because of the potential conflict. “I don’t want anyone on the panel to say something crazy ’cause I don’t want to look like a crazy psycho again,” said Nicki, who insisted she is not crazy.

While she claimed the ring on her finger is not a wedding ring, she remained coy about her love life. “I don’t have anyone,” she smirked, adding, “It has to be someone very secure because it’s so easy to feel insecure.”

With a pink mic in hand, Nicki hit the stage to perform her Re-Up single “Freedom” underneath chandeliers.

@Onika9, that’s the thing about Nic…she has so much material…this song under performed despite this being one of her best songs…but for every “flop” she had she has like 10 platinum songs…i’d say that’s a good trade off

    @Onika9,

I guess someone sat down Nicki and told her a$$ to humble herself down a little. After her recent decline, flops, feuds and her hairstyling quitting.. I guess she realizes now being a b!tch can be the end of her!

@I GUESS, You sound dumb she decided herself to change (her) -image she is still winning and succeeding having the highest hiphop album sales and first week sales too she good she is a very humble person but people like you only see the wrong which is sad people can’t seem to tell her jokes from her seriousness which isn’t her fault plus most of the stuff that happened was blown out of proportion or wasn’t her fault

@I GUESS, Terrance didn’t quit because she was a bitch or mean! He quit because he wanted to be more creative with the wigs and Nicki wanted to tone everything down this year. Wigs, clothes make up etc. So thats why he quit he said that in his statement!

I hope Mariah lets thefued go because shes still appears butthurt over not being the only female on the panel. Ill give credit to Mariah tho because she knows how to be fake and phony and still make the other person look bad. I guarantee right now that Mariah will shade Nicki and the Idol audience wont pick up on it, but then tabloids will paint Nicki as an angry bitch bc she “overreacted” over something Mariah said. It’s such bs. I hope Nicki doesn’t respond to it.

I admire Nicki for her success but even Nicki said how can she grow if no one tells her the truth. Her fans are the worst in shielding Nicki’s flaws as an artist. They can see that lacefront is not the business but they tweet and comment on how great she looks. That lacefront is HORRIBLE!

    [Reply]

Her lacefronts really be jacked up like, why is her roots black ass fuck and shes wearing a blonde ass wig? Also she needs to stop wearing all that eyeshadow stuff on her eyes, it makes her look so ugly.

I don’t think people understand her strategy. IF she hadn’t showed her pop potential would she have gotten as far as she is? MAC, OPI, AI, they wouldn’t make a second look at a hood rapper to endorse their own product. She’s playing it smart. Grab the deals through pop, impress with her rap. Duh. Hate all you want, winning is her thing. *shrugs*

I’m disappointed that everybody dislikes her so much that they will go to great lengths to discredit everything she does… I’m not gonna call myself a “Barb” or nothing but I can not and I will not knock her hustle. “Freedom” honestly is one of the best records she’s put out in a while. It reveals some emotions but it still resonates on a hip-hop level. The lyrics are clever, I can do without HER singing but overall that is a STRONG record. However, people would rather judge and point fingers at her attitude, x,y and z. Just listen to the music and stop judging her for doing exactly what you’d probably do in any given situation. People forget that celebs are just people at the end of the day. She’s a hothead from Queens who felt disrespected so she popped off. Hello, SHE’S HUMAN. Is she not supposed to respond? I’m pretty sure if you cut her she’d bleed. Y’all so critical behind computer screens and fail to put yourselves in the shoes of these celebs and realize they’re real people.

okay so you say freedom wasnt the right song? you are WRONGGGG! you all fake ass wack barbs and need to stand for nickis individuality and having the guts to do something different to her usual rap! she SLAYED in this performance and anyone who says differen can LEAVE. if she did im legit it has too many explicit lyrics to spit to a potentially young audience, and high school would include wayne, and is not the right choice of song for the audience. I STAN 4 NICKI. freedom was AMAZING. all you hoes WACK SURFBOARD.

She is a true artist, and she is working damn hard.
Her face is glowing true the whole interview,
you can see that she is in a good part of her life right now.
