Beyoncé Talks Lip-Syncing Controversy, Destiny’s Child Reunion, & Tour at Super Bowl Press Conference

Beyoncé

In a little over 72 hours, Beyoncé will headline the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show. Before she takes the field at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the 31-year-old singer went in front of reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

First, she put the lip-syncing controversy to rest once and for all by singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” live, receiving roaring applause from reporters.

Once that was out of the way, she discussed her performance of the National Anthem at President Obama’s inauguration, plans for Sunday’s show, rumors that Destiny’s Child will join her onstage, and hinted about a tour.

On the lip-syncing controversy: “I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track… I’m very proud of my performance.”

On a potential Destiny’s Child reunion at the Super Bowl: “I can’t really give you any details.”

On whether she will perform at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards: “I don’t know if I’m performing at the Grammys…”

On when she will tour: “I would say soon and I may have an announcement after the performance.”

I seen the press conference and she sounded very nervous and a bit shook but she came through and gave a “well thought” response to lip syncing controversy.

I’m not a big fan of Beyonce but I give her credit for owning up to her actions, unlike her past mistakes, and lies.

I have a question for her: Why doesn’t she work with any URBAN MUSIC folk (Jay-Z does’t count anymore) like she did 10 years ago?

    [Reply]

    NEUTRON Reply:

@Shutterbug, I guess working with Frank Ocean, J. Cole & Andre 3000 wasn’t “urban” enough last era for your liking?

    [Reply]

@NEUTRON, Right ^ or in 2011 when she gave her song “Love A Woman” to Mary J. Blige and featured on it. She also featured on Put It In A Love Song with Alicia Keys and they performed that live together. And she has worked with Kanye. This era she’s working with Miguel.

If I was Bey I wouldn’t explain sh*t! The world KNOWS Beyonce is a talented singer and entertainer. Why explain the fact that you chose to lipsynch to people that’s looking for anything to pull you apart! I luv Bey! She’s an extremely talented entertainer. Most of the people on these blogs rep entertainers that’s gotten TONS of plastic surgery, breast and butt implants, fake teeth, never rock their real hair…need I say more. I would say Beyonce and Rihanna are prolly the few that HASN’T been surgically enhanced. I support REAL all around talent.

SLAYED, sounded just like she did on Inauguration day even better hahaha! Anyone with ears and eyes could tell she sang along to HER OWN backing track but of course one negative thing about Bey and the media runs with it TAKE THAT MITCHES! hahahah

I just love how she doesn’t feed into that negativity, jumping on Twitter/instagram etc when people talk trash, she show em better than she can tell em. With that being said, she looked stunning! ROLL ON SUNDAY…….

we all know she can see, that’s not the point. obama would not have asked her if she could not sing.

what i see is a lot of bias and double standards. alot of artists who can sing get criticized for lip syncing audio tracks, and rightfully so. you guys are making excuses for her when if this was an artist you didnt like, you would be the first to criticize them for not performing up front and doing the job right.

I’m a fan of her, but i must say as a fan of music and vocalists i am disappointed because it takes the magic out of what should have been a special natural moment.

    [Reply]

    KaramelKisses Reply:

@jarid, you on some bullsh*t, other artists are criticized because they lip synch on a stage standing in one place NOT moving. this girl, during a performance, is dancing, in the crowd, etc. if anything, the double standard was against beyonce. in this day & age when hoes w/ less than half her caliber of talent are famous & THIS, THIS is what you are bitching about? GTFOH! but she’s smart enough to know, realize & see … that once you reach a certain level, anything that people think they can use to break you they will try it. classic examples: michael jackson AND whitney houston. i hope she remembers that the only people she has to be true to are herself, her family & friends … the people that are going to uphold her when the world is busy trying to tear her down! #teamontop

The problem is, no one questioned Beyonce’s ability to sing. This is why people could not understand why she lip-synched in the first place. Does she not get that??? I said it before and she said it in so many words: she didn’t make time to rehearse. People were upset about it all because since she didn’t put in the time to give an authentic performance, and when I say authentic I mean live vocals AND live music like everyone else did…she could have declined the invitation and allow someone else to do it. I don’t care if it’s common place in the industry. You can’t call yourself “Queen” or “King” and expect people to expect you to settle for common place antics. She just said in GQ magazine that she works harder than anyone she knows in the industry. Then of all the acts that performed for the President SHE should have been the main one giving an authentic performance. Any questions??

Get some real talent and a greater female singer. Beyonce is all looks and limited talent. I hope that weave falls off on Sunday.

I’m glad she owned up to it however to sing a National Anthem in a Press Conference is a bit of overkill, no one questioned that she could sing the question was whether or not she sang that day.
