Lil Wayne Won't Apologize for Miami Heat Remarks
Lil Wayne caused quite a stir with his inflammatory comments about the Miami Heat and its players. But if you expect the Young Money boss to back down from what he said, think again.
In an interview with South Florida’s 99 Jamz, he openly admits to dissing Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, and maintains that he was not under the influence when he made those remarks at an after-party during NBA All-Star Weekend.
“I don’t apologize for that night. I don’t apologize for being who I am,” said Weezy. “That’s who I am, this is who I am. Yes, I did say those things.”
He did, however, retract one comment he made about LeBron James. “The only thing I do want to take back from saying that night… I said, ‘F LeBron.’ I didn’t mean to say that because me and LeBron, we are cool and I’m really cool with his mom and we have a real good relationship and that’s my homie, but it just slipped out. I didn’t mean to say that.”
When asked if what he said was true about sleeping with Chris Bosh’s wife, he replied, “That ain’t important. I was just having a conversation with Baby onstage when I said that or whatever I said. That was my fam in there. I wasn’t on a television show or radio station. … That was my party and my stage. I could say what I want.”
While he may have beef with the Heat, he has nothing against the city of Miami and its citizens. “That’s totally, totally wrong. These people accepted me with open arms from day one since I was a Hot Boy. This is just totally sports. This ain’t got nothing to do with the city of Miami.”
Wayne claims that he spends $1.5 million a year on tickets to the Heat games and still gets no love from the team. “The boy D-Wade comes over there and he looks at me and I said, ‘Ya’ll don’t f with me, I don’t f with ya’ll.’ He looked me dead in my eye. His exact words were, ‘We don’t.’ I said, ‘OK, f you then.’ He said, ‘Well f you.'”
He was told that he was being kicked out of a recent Heat game, but denies making obscene gestures at the players. Instead, he attributes the exchange to a playful rivalry with a fan. “There was a fan behind me who said, ‘Lil Wayne, sit your ass down.’ So I turned around and I shot the bird at him.”
Weezy got word that he was being banned from all NBA events, a claim which the NBA has denied. “I got a real tip from somebody that knew somebody,” said Wayne. “Maybe I was a little too upset and I walked out. Once the homie had told me he don’t f with me, I was too heated.”
Additionally, he was reportedly denied tickets to the NBA All-Star Game and the Slam Dunk Contest after Gerald Green asked him to participate. He was also supposed to perform with Alicia Keys during the halftime show. “I was pulled from that as well,” said Wayne.
When he spoke with the NBA on Wednesday, he was told that NBA commissioner David Stern decided it would be best not to have him involved in the festivities. “For the better sake of everyone, he imagined that it may be best if I wasn’t there.”
But Wayne is not taking the loss lightly. “I’m from the streets, sweetheart,” he said. “I pay to be in there. They don’t speak to me, they don’t holler at me. I don’t even get a head nod from these kids.”
