Alicia Keys kicks off season 3 of “Oprah’s Master Class.” The 14-time Grammy winner, who has been everywhere from the Inaugural Ball to the NBA All-Star Game in the past month, opens up about her passion for singing, her marriage to Swizz Beatz (“I’ve never met a person like him—ever”), motherhood, and her journey from Hell’s Kitchen to the top.
“Literally I was running from pimps and prostitutes to boom—I was on the ‘Oprah’ show!” said Alicia.
Check out a sneak peek and tune in to the full episode on Sunday, March 3, at 10/9c on OWN.
@Aliciasahomewrecka, what she do throw swizzy in the back of her car and drove off? Grow up. Swizzy made the choice to change paths in his life and move on. That is his business, not yours.
I’m so glad Alicia ended up being exactly who she is and thank God she wasn’t taken in by the evils of her environment at that time. She is a beautiful and strong young lady who has accomplished so much and deserves every good thing that comes her way. I wish her only continued blessings. Looking so forward to seeing her perform on tour.
SIAM, DOAK, AIA = CLASSIC R&B/SOUL, diamond sales, multiple Grammys, ruled the charts.
EOF, GOF = Not so classic, barely platinum (or worse), no Grammys, no Top 10 hits.
She’s talkin’ bout “Brand New Me”…all signs point to us missin’ the old her.
Dear old AK, please call back-otherwise Janelle Monae is ready to take your place at the top.
@Shutterbug, Excuse me, but “Unthinkable” was number one on the R&B charts for 12 weeks. “Empire State of Mind” even though credited to Alicia and Jay Z was on the top ten list for best songs of 2009. It also was no. 1 for five weeks. It was nominated for Record of the year and she did win a grammy for the recording with Jay Z. Many people like myself enjoy Alicia’s version alone much better. The “GOF” album hasn’t even had a chance yet, but it doesn’t even matter because I think most of us know some of an artists best works goes unnoticed. Doesn’t matter if she gets any awards or how many sales, to me Alicia continues to grow and I love that she doesn’t stay the same or try to be like everyone else. That’s why she is still around and still very much appreciated and sounds so amazing today. Alicia was great when she first started and continues with that same greatness in a new way today.
I’m so happy to see Alicia Keys shine like the diamond she is. She is always growing as an artist. Thank God she isn’t stuck in the past as some people are.
Her album, “Girl on Fire” is a beautiful gem of quality and diverse music. Keep moving up Alicia.
@Carl, Any one of her first three albums outsold her most recent two albums COMBINED. Plus, she’s not ruling the charts anymore and isn’t winning as many Grammys as she used to.
I think it’s time for her to go back to her past sound-men lie, women lie, NUMBERS DON’T.
@Shutterbug, black artists don’t sell as well anymore because some of y’all insist on downloading illegally or buying a bootleg from Pookie on the corner. It is no coincidence that Adele and Taylor Swifts sales are high.
She’s doin her best in life, fed a lot of babies, healed a lot of sick people with her success and leeads a private life that is impossible to know from your computer keyboard. Judgers and haters will always judge and hate. It’s what they do. Alicia’s in the arena, trying her best. Put your rocks down.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Alicia Keys open up about her personal life on Oprah’s Master Class. It sounds like her rise to fame and to the top was a really interesting story. I’ll be at work at DISH when this is on so I’m going to record this on my DVR. My roommates will also be away from work so we’ll be setting up our DISH Hopper to record up to six programs at once. This way no one will argue over what to record.

I feel like they’re trying to force her down the public’s throat. It should be organic and not so affected.

@Ursula, organic? She is in the business of selling records. And this is her promotional period. That is what artist have to do.

@Shutterbug, you really check your facts. Her new album came out too late to be eligible for the Grammy ballot.
