New Music: Ciara – ‘Body Party’

Body Party

Ciara takes it nice and slow on “Body Party,” the new single from her upcoming fifth album One Woman Army. The seductive jam, which samples Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo,” was produced by Mike WiLL Made It (“Bandz a Make Her Dance,” “Pour It Up”) and co-written by her boyfriend Future.

“My body is your party, baby/ Nobody’s invited but you baby/ I can do it slow now, tell me what you want,” she coos.

“Let’s just say that this record came out of a very sincere place,” Ciara told Billboard. “I think when things just organically feel right, naturally good things come from it.”

She gushed about working with her own boo, Future. “He’s such an amazing, creative person,” she said. “I can be very creatively expressive myself, but there’s nothing like being able to work with someone that can bring a new flavor. What I like about [working with] him, it’s almost like I got to learn more things about myself.”

Due in June, One Woman Army is set to feature production from Rodney Jerkins, The Underdogs, and Rock City, plus collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross.

    OhWORD? Reply:

@Mr. Fye, My fav is Rihanna and just like me you and everyone knows she needs little to no promotion because of who she is today and her Ocean of a fan base! Now that’s clear, however, Nicole Wray did a rendition to the actual song call “my boo” many years ago. All i was saying is that, immediately when i heard Ciara’s body part, which is a sample of the same song Nicole Wray sampled many years ago, isn’t as good as Nicole because it’s too slow! So, like i said before no hate intended i’m just saying! Sometimes the truth hurts! Get over it and i’m entitled to my opinion just like you!

This is cute! I always want to see the artist win who have been doing it for years. I know it’s not easy for artist who started when they were young to do it at the highest level for a long time.

But i think as long as she continues to make music that pertains 2 her and what’s happening in her life she will be just fine. And her true fan base will support.
Plus I’m a sucker for R&B. And this is a feel good record.

Like Frank Ocean, The Weeknd and Miguel and even Emeli Sande are a breath of fresh air for R&B music cus their not singing about the same shit all the damn time. Like Ciara make some ART. Try something new and different. We heard sex songs and love songs in every way possible.

  32. Truth

Im gonna be honest i liked Sorry a lot better than this and this is on the same tempo as that. It feels so desperate having to sample such a classic song like Ghosttown Dj’s My Boo why not try to create some new sounding stuff. So many artists want to bring back that old school 90′s feel to music instead of trying to create a new sound. Now if this song doesnt do well on Billboard/R&B charts ciara for sure just needs to hang it up and i mean that in the nicest way possible.

    [Reply]

    Truthis Reply:

@Truth, people kill me with that… if you don’t succeed you just give up, is that what you do in your life??? something gets in the way of your goals so you hang it up??? if anything what she’s doing should be admirable considering she’s had so many setbacks and still continues to fight for what she loves smh if you’re the truth i’m the lie detector you need to hang it up and i mean that in the nicest way possible… the song is dope but i need visuals, my imagination is going crazy

  33. i Cant Deal

Mike Will Made it is everywhereeee. Kellys new single and Brandy’s Do You Know What You Have. But NOTHING is beating Brandys Do You Know What You Have. Im so mad that ciara decided to sample arguably one of my favorite songs from the 90′s Ghost town dj’s My Boo it just screams “Im desperate for a hit song”. And honestly there is no catchy hook or anything this track sounds very bland. The beginning was dope then the song just went downhill from there. Ciara you must come harder than this….

  35. Fact

Single after single after single i mean cmon ciara this is Fantasy Ride disaster all over again. Why cant her label EPIC get it together and please get this girl a hit record. Stop sampling classic records and come up with your own shit seriously. This is why the music industry is a joke right now. Artists need to take notes from Miguel because as far as R&B goes hes killing Everyone and coming up with organic original music. Everything dude releases is fire. We need more artists like that instead of jokes like this. FOH with this mess.

    [Reply]

    Creative Minds Reply:

@Fact, I completely agree. Miguel is the one artist who is taking on R&B by his shoulders and literally carrying it to new heights. Adorn was such an amazing r&b record and it sounds so fresh. Gave me that feeling i had back in the 90′s when i would hear a song on the radio and literally want it to play again. You dont get that much now with this new generation of music. I think if artists would study up on music more they could actually make hits. Ciara is very much a monkey see monkey do artist. My Boo is one record you just dont touch its a classic and for that i just cant take her seriously either.

    [Reply]

    #TeamOWA Reply:

@Fact, I disagree 100% Nothing is wrong with Sampling Legendary music . . . Was it a problem when Rihanna sampled Genuine on her new album? Of course not why well bcs its Rihanna?? Ppl need to give Ciara a break this track is DOPE! If you can not see that then u are a HATER stright up! This Is Classic R&B what do u want her to do? Do pop ALL THE TIME? No she is a very diverse Artist. . . .The Music Industry needs MORE Diverse artist & not Artist that do shit just to get “fans” Be true to YOURSELF

    [Reply]

    Fact Reply:

@#TeamOWA, Do pop all the time? First off i am not a fan of pop i am a fan of r&b music but the fact is if you sample a song you need to do it right. And please dont compare Rihanna to Ciara because atleast every song Rihanna releases becomes a top 10 hit. All the songs that have been released from Rihannas albums have been original songs. None of that sampling crap. and if they did use a sample it was used correctly not so that you would know.

i dont mean to through too much shade, but ciara’s fans might be the most delusional fanbase (sans britney spears fans) out there. the girl is talented dont get me wrong. she can dance that ass off, but in regards to creating a brand and making the proper decisions to compete in today’s industry, ciara and her team (if in fact she actually has one) is an absolute mess. i’m routing for the girl, but she’s been promoting this “one woman army” mess since september. SEPTEMBER, who promos for an album that long. things clearly arent together. it’s just sad to see wasted talent, and ciara is just that.
furthermore, this song aint even a hit. it’s beyond mediocre. they didnt do the sample justice. it’s just frustrating to she her drop average track after average track. if she was smart, she’d actually sit down and take notes from bey and rih and learn how to create a brand. i wish her the best but she’s too average and blan for me to ever consider her a great performer/entertainer.

    [Reply]

    True Story Reply:

@maciel, Actually shes been promoting OWA since June. Sweat which was supposed to be the first single was scrapped and replaced with Sorry. Her team at Epic Records just didnt have shit right and honestly i still feel they dont have it right. Body party is pretty much the same tempo as Sorry. i feel like Ciara isnt growing as an artist which is sad since shes been out since 2006. I see absolutely no growth in her music.

    [Reply]

    Beyness Reply:

@maciel, as a Ci stan I completely agree. She has no signature (besides that tired matrix move) I love her and want the best but she needs to come harder! I know she’s an ATL R&B chick but We need Popara to emerge for one single so we can get her name out there. Once her name is out sitting on the hot 100 then we can think about creating a brand and a signature sound again but trying to do that without the proper fan base won’t work. I feel I can handle this project better tha her team. The OWA movement is such a food female empowerment movement that can win some female fans and the gays. It just needs to be promoted correctly which they’re arent doing. This song is good dont get me wrong but for a lead single off 2 bad LPs is just mess. It’s more off a final single off a decent selling and charting album

  50. Oh

The thing with Ciara is she came out around the same time as Rihanna/Bey and she was actually successful up until like Maybe that whole “Go Girl” single came out!! Pretty much after her “Promise” era , Ciara was just a has-been already and its sad, and the reason that is, is because Ciara’s efforts to be relevant are so mediocore and cheesy, she never does anything monumental or would make people say OMG look at Ciara, shes been doing the Matrix for 10 years now!! What WOULD help Ciara is for her to get back into her CLUB/DANCE type records!! She let Rihanna SERVE into her LANE with that Pour It Up record, and also she needs to stop whining while she sings .. With the right singles and promo she COULD make a comeback

when you listen to a song with intentions of critiquing it you will always find something wrong with it because that’s what you are looking for… people wonder why music is so generic now and days but fail to realize the listeners are the cause, back in the day people listened to music with an open mind because they didn’t have the internet to persuade them otherwise, WORD OF ADVICE IF YOU WANT TO HEAR GOOD MUSIC LISTEN WITH AN OPEN MIND TO AN ARTIST CREATIVITY INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR FAULTS…. dope song cici, this is totally putting me in the mind of red light special

    [Reply]

    Keeping It Real Reply:

@Truthis, Who ever said anyones intentions were critisizing a song before hearing it??? I always go in to listening to a song with an open mind ALWAYS. But heres the thing. Ciaras team has been throwing out singles and they dont even end up doing well. In all honesty this song is just ok. Not only was it heavily sampled but it doesnt have a catchy hook. Artists take the easy way out by sampling 90′s hits expecting it will do well.

    [Reply]

    The Killer Truth Reply:

@Truthis, Please dont compare this shit to Red Light Special GTFOH. Red Light Special was a CLASSIC and it was an Original song not sampled. TLC’s whole Crazy Sexy Cool album is arguably the best female R&B album of all time and thats going off the Hits and sales alone nobody is touching them. Now here is my issue. Why cant ciara make a hit song without sampling a 90′s classic? Why cant she come with original material? This is why artists come and go because they release music so fast instead of trying to create great original songs. Isnt that the point of being an artist in the industry? To create from scratch? To change music? To be original? This is why the music industry is a joke right now. All i speak is the truth…

This is what ciara should do. Release a mixtape first kind of like what Chris Brown did before he released the FAME album and with the song Deuces which became a huge success and hit carried that whole Fame album. Since Ciara hasnt been relevant in the past 6 years she needs to just release a mixtape first with some hot tracks and see which one sticks to her audience and also one that radio can pick up. She needs to build up a buzz again if possible then drop her album. One Woman Army will flop if she doesnt build up her buzz. If she was smart she would release a mixtape before the album drops

    [Reply]

    Keeping It Real Reply:

@True Story, I totally agree with you. A mixtape would be a great idea. Just release songs off the mixtape and see which one sticks and what radio would pick up. Its very risky just releasing singles and videos and they end up not doing well. Not only does it waste money instead of generating money but it also causes the Label to most likely shelve the album. Ciara is very lucky to even be given a third single so quickly after her other ones havent done well on the charts. In most cases labels will just shelve you altogether they wont even bother investing any more money into your career. I hope for the best this go around.

Sorry was a great first single and this song should have followed as a second single instead of got me good, as gorgeous of a ballad as sorry was with right promotion it could have done so much better and the remix could have served as a second video to continue to pull in buzz for sorry. I love Ciara to death however the problem I have with her concepts is that they normally don’t fit together like pieces of a puzzle. It is essential that she learns how to create singles that flow together cohesively which will give her concepts a bonus instead of having the singles scattered.
