Justin Timberlake Hosts and Performs on ‘SNL’![]() Justin Timberlake pulled double duty, hosting and performing on “Saturday Night Live.” For his first performance of the evening, a tuxedo-clad J.T. performed “Suit & Tie” off his upcoming album The 20/20 Experience, due March 19. Following an introduction from himself, he turnt up 30 Rock with some help from his band, the Tennessee Kids. He even threw in a dig at Kanye West, who dissed the Timbaland-produced song at his London show. “My hit’s so sick got rappers acting dramatic,” sang J.T. His “Legends of the Summer” tourmate Jay-Z joined him onstage to spit his verse, dressed in all black with a Roc-A-Fella chain around his neck. Justin returned later in the program to perform “Mirrors.” Watch both performances along with the full episode below.

I never understood the appeal of this guy, his voice is average and his songs are ok plus he always needs a big stage and dancers around him to complete his show, suit & tie is just lame with horrible lyrics.

So JT throws a dig at Yeezy and Jay-Z comes to perform later in the song ?! That’s vicious, cuz it could perfectly be interpreted as Jay-Z co-signing the mini-diss… It’s probably not the case, but we all know how much of a hot head ‘Ye is. I guess WTT2 is not for now ! Hahahaha

@C94B,
After the Taylor Swift interruption, Jay-Z has accepted that he has to let Kanye lay in the beds he makes himself. Kanye ONLY goes at people who he knows won’t punch him in his mouth.

JT is overrated. Suddenly he’s returned to music and the press are all over hom like a eash. Kanye was right, Suit and Tie was awful. Mirrors is good though, sounds like it was recorded years ago.
Don’t get me wrong JT was good in N Sync & his first twi albums had some good songs, but is he the second Jesus like hes being made out? No.
Hes a good artist and the only thing thats his saving grace atm is the state of RnB with Usher, Ne-Yo etc moving into Pop.

@Ursula, It’s hardly “the light.” It’s merely opinion, which is subjective you know. A darn near decade hiatus and now folks aren’t satisfied with what he releases though they can do no better themselves. “Suit & Tie” may be average, but “Mirrors” is superb. Considering his R&B/pop crossover fanbase, I highly doubt he’ll sell less than 300K in the first week. And then the doubters will be eating crow and jumping on the bandwagon as usual.

JT was excellent on SNL last night. Everytime someone has a great amount of success some hater wants to throw around the term “overrated”. If you think he can’t really sing lowkey look up his performance of “Hallejulah” for Hope For Haiti Now. And people saying he tries to act black are ignorant, if you see him in person he acts white as hell, I don’t see what’s the problem with him making soulful music, especially if it’s better and more soulful than the pop garbage Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, and Usher make nowadays

2 for 2 … i love both suit & tie and mirrors! amazing job last night but then again justin always turns it out on snl. the chemistry between between he & jay is great, i can’t wait for the legends of summer tour. i respect and like the fact that he is going against the grain of the europop crap that numerous artists (usher, chris brown, rihanna, kelly rowland, etc) have opted to sell out for and not sounding like anything on radio right now. i respect his respect of his artistry & the use of live instrumentation, again something that alot of these poptarts of today have little to no knowledge of. keep doing what you do justin & you’ll be even more successful. and to those of you saying that “don’t like him”, “he’s trying to sound like robin thicke”, “his music now is underwhelming” … i’m sorry he didn’t do what some of your faves do. you know add 2 to 3 tracks to futuresexlovesounds, re-release it calling it the re-up, reloaded or greatest hits. lazy artists re-release old sh*t, trailblazers look to the future & move forward!

@KaramelKisses, Obviously you know nothing about music. Rihanna has always been a pop artist, she hasn’t sold out to anyone and if anything, her newest album is more r&b/hiphop oriented. Kelly is currently living on the r&b charts as we speak, even if she on features and what not. Usher’s “Climax” was one of the biggest r&b records of last year and “Suit&Tie” is no where near as good but radio continues to push it like its such a good song. I can’t speak on Chris Brown because I’ve never understood his music.
As for jt, I can remember him being the posterboy for manufactured pop with no instrumentation in N-SYNC that was quite awful until pharrell and timbaland showed up & lended their support to his solo career. Unfortunately, the new jt song does have a Robin thicke vibe that is undeniable. Jay Z is just trying to stay relevant any which way he can even if its going on tour with someone completely unrelated to his core audience. I dont even know how you can make such claims about Jt when he’s spent the last few years not developing his artistry at all but has been primarily in the film scene. He hasn’t even been on any features. Anyway, he needs too much help from producers and other artists which really doesn’t help his case.

@MC_fan, i know nothing about music? you don’t know me so you don’t know what i know. i listen to a wide range of music from jt to jay z to bon iver to the lumineers to sigur ross to marvin sapp. i’m sure you’ll have to go and google some of the aforementioned artists since you seem to live only in a r&b, hip hop bubble. the fact that you consider rihanna “an artist” of any caliber instantly disqualifies you from ANY and ALL debates! #goodnight

@KaramelKisses,
Too many valid points, huh? So I guess ignoring the facts and deflecting attention is more of your speed. Most of those artists you just named are fairly new (came out within the last 10 years or so) so it tells a lot about YOUR age, if anything. the fact of the matter is that you keep namedropping but can’t seem to address Jt and his lack of independence when it comes to his music career. Continuing to list artists that have nothing to do with Jt is absolutely irrelevant.. and in reference to rihanna who is a far bigger artist than Jt btw & has accomplished more in a shorter period of time,… YOU brought her name up in your list of those who’ve ‘sold out.’ Clearly that was a lie and needed to be corrected along with the other artists you spoke untrue about.

@MC_fan, don’t make me laugh Rihanna is bigger than JT! Can Rihanna sell stadiums I don’t think so! You’re forgetting JT only released 3 albums in 11 years as he writes he’s own music! Not like Rihanna which every year has whole team of writers and producers writing for her! Justin sticks to couple producers like most artists do such as mj did with quency jones. Eminem and dr dre. Drake and 40. Chili peppers and Rick rubin. JT only puts out album every 5 years cause he cares about his work and wants it to be the best like MJ did and David Bowie. Not like usher, Rihanna and even neyo now who put out wave after wave of music that lackluster with just few hit songs and just album fillers. Yes it sounds similar to robin thicke the new single but robin thicke did try to copy JT with his album sexy therapy with an electro sexy sound and that was after future sex love sounds. FSLS sold more records than the whole of Rihanna career so far and had bigger world tour!

@Rich, Why do ya’ll insist on deflecting? This has nothing to do with rihanna, usher, neyo or anyone else for that matter.Stop trying to tear down what other artists have established to make a case for Jt. MJ and David Bowie compared to Jt, I can’t. Jt needs a lot, a whole lot of help to produce a hit so don’t go there. The history of N-Sync and his 1st and 2nd solo albums can attest to that. How do you know why Jt waits 5 years to put out an album? ’cause he cares’… Sure, great evidence you have for that one. Just to correct you on your last statement, Rihanna has sold over 26 million albums worldwide and counting while FSLS has sold 10 million, and lets not talk about how much her tours have grossed and her #1s… she’s made history entirely as a solo artist, not an ex-band member… it’s your best bet to stick to Jt.
March 10th, 2013 at 1:53 pm
Jt is talented but it gets to me the way people are acting like he”s the saviour of R&B.What people arent mentioning is the fact that justin has yet to do a project without the help of timbo or neptunes,whereas artists like miguel bruno and robin are writing and producing majority of their own shit.And Btw that live band that Jt is doing,both Bruno and Robin been doing that

@sassy, no one is acting like he is saving anything. fact is bruno mars, miguel & robin are NOT mainstream artists. justin timberlake is mainstream, he’s able to get played on certain radio stations that the other guys can’t based on his name alone. so the fact that his current sound is a’la their sound will open up some minds that aren’t curious enough to seek out a different style of music. as for him working w/ tim & the neptunes, you work w/ who you have chemistry w/. and honey justin has been writing & producing since the days of nsync, he penned gone for the group. not to mention that he’s written & produced for madonna (4 minutes), rihanna (rehab) & he’s working on bey’s new album. and btw, robin & bruno weren’t working w/ live bands until recently. #nicetrythough
