With gay marriage in the spotlight, celebrities are showing their support on social media. Beyoncé has taken a stand for marriage equality by posting a handwritten note on her Instagram page.

“If you like it, you should be able to put a ring on it. #wewilluniteformarriageequality!” wrote the “Single Ladies” hitmaker, who also uploaded a photo of the red equal sign, a symbol of equality.

“it’s about time #equality #prop8 #marriageislove ❤❤ show your support!!” she told her followers.

The constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, which legally defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, is currently under Supreme Court scrutiny.

B isn’t the only one in the Carter household showing her support. Her husband Jay-Z previously spoke out in favor of gay marriage.

“I’ve always thought it as something that’s still holding the country back,” Jay told CNN last year. “What people do in their own homes is their business. You can choose to love whoever you love. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple.”
