Video: J. Cole f/ Miguel – ‘Power Trip’

J. Cole

J. Cole’s obsession turns deadly in the dark video for “Power Trip,” the first single off his sophomore album Born Sinner, due June 25. The Roc Nation MC puts a whole new perspective on his love song as he commits murder in the grim visuals.

The chilling clip opens with a nervous-looking Cole at the strip club, cutting to him parked outside a girl’s house as her boyfriend, Miguel, gets ready to go out. Cole and a friend are later seen driving with wood and plastic bags on top of their car. A cop pulls them over along the highway, but lets them go after finding just a shovel in their trunk.

They continue to the forest, where we discover that Cole has acted out on his murderous plans as he unloads a body from the roof. But just who was the victim?

Watch the tragic end to his love story below.

Great video. I didn’t expect him to take this route with the video but it just shows his artistry and growth as an artist.

I can’t wait for Born Sinner. June 25th can’t get here fast enough.

fits in perfect to the storyline of “Dreams” to “Power Trip”. Good to see a rapper making videos with content instead of a promo ad for Ciroc, Novu, and other products.

Well, he DID say he couldn’t wait to show us the video! Dope, I love it. Your average, basic rapper could’ve turned this video into a mushy cliche but I’m glad Cole thought outside of the box. Now, I’d love to see him perform this on Fallon and some of the other late night programs.

Good video. Ending was unexpected, I’m glad it had an actual concept instead of being another met shorty in the club type videos.

I can’t wait for Born Sinner to come out.

I’m glad J. Cole isn’t the “typical” rap artist who makes music videos about raining on ho’s in the strip club. This is a story he wanted to tell with a twist at the end. J. Cole would never be just “typical” and thats why he’s one of the dopest MC’s in the game right now.

This was a pretty dope video, I didn’t understand where it was going with the car ride and what not until I seen them drive into the woods and the fact they had a shovel and what looked like a body bag on top of the car. This is dope, this song deserves to be in the top 10 on the charts way more than most of that BS music that is. I hope Born Sinner pushes a lot of units none the less, Cole deserves it, and I know I’ll be buying. I’m sure it’ll be a classic or damn near at least.
