Iggy Azalea Signs to Island Def Jam

Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea is joining Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Kanye West at Island Def Jam. The Aussie rap sensation has inked a deal with the U.S. label, where she will release her debut The New Classic.

She made the official announcement on Twitter. “Hey world. I signed to island def jam. Iam now mercury UK/ island def jam USA awesome!!!!” tweeted the blonde bombshell.

The 22-year-old Wilhelmina Model was previously in talks to sign with Interscope last year, but a deal was never finalized. She is signed to Mercury Records in the U.K.

However, she is still affiliated with T.I.’s Hustle Gang and will appear on the upcoming Hustle Gang compilation. “No. That doesn’t mean I’m no in hustle gang. Save it. Still in it. Still on the hustle gang album. Friendship doesn’t require contracts,” she said.

Her Island Def Jam family welcomed her. “Congrats Iggy. You have a voice that needs to be heard. We got your back!!!” tweeted Chris Anokute, Senior Vice President, A&R.

Iggy is currently promoting “Work,” the first single off The New Classic, and will release her next single “Bounce” on May 5. A video was recently shot in India.

    @Zave, Congrats, But that just it … Iggy has potential but doesn’t have a rappers voice ….
    Now That she isn’t with Grand Hustle they might find a sound to match her voice… If not she mind as well be a model and let the rest happen

    eeh, still don’t see her doing anything… and im not saying this cause i stan for Onika. I honestly think shes horrible, she should just be a model. tbh

    @Kwayzee, and I honestly think you should just stan for onika and shut up regarding other female rappers then. tbh :)

    @Kwayzee, Basic ass Iggy critic comment.. But is that why Iggy’s first single ‘Work’ is already in the top 20 on the UK charts? I stan for Nicki as well, and Massive Attack didn’t even chart!

    @Kwayzee, Y’all acting like Nicki is gonna rap for long.. till she’s 40 or something, Iggy is new and fresh to the Hip Hop game, like I said Nicki is 30 now.. When she hits 33+ no one is probably gonna care about her because new female rappers are coming and it could get nasty. just saying

    Kwayzee Reply:

    @YO, shes 28. and does age matter? JayZ is in his 40s i believe, and hes doing just fine

    @Kwayzee, Nicki is 30, not 28.

    @Kwayzee, i stand for Nicki too and did you know that the same shit you are saying about iggy is the same cr-p they were saying about nicki back in the day how she is going to fail, how she isn’t going to make it and look at her now,one of the biggest stars in the game…don’t predict failure on people because you don’t know what the future holds…iggy might make it she might not, people should just wait and see what the future holds…don’t be judging people when they trying and doing there thing.

    Kwayzee Reply:

    @opd2, nicki was always good lyrically tho. and a female rapper was well needed. dont get me wrong i like Iggy & i like “Work” but i dont think she’s lyrically good enough to doninate the boys like Nicki did. and imo to make it as a female rapper TODAY you have to be better than the boys
