New Music: Kelly Rowland – ‘Dirty Laundry’

Dirty Laundry

Kelly Rowland airs out her darkest secrets on “Dirty Laundry,” the second single off her upcoming album Talk a Good Game. The singer is her most vulnerable yet, opening up about pursuing a solo career after Destiny’s Child and watching Beyoncé’s career take off while she was feeling discouraged.

“When my sister was on stage, killin’ it like a motherfu**er/ I was enraged, feelin’ it like a motherfu**er/ Bird in a cage, you would never know what I was dealing with/ Went our separate ways, but I was happy she was killin’ it/ Bittersweet, she was up, I was down,” sings Kelly on the record, written and produced by her “Lights Out” tourmate The-Dream.

She also speaks candidly about a tumultuous relationship with an ex-boyfriend. “I was battered, he hit in a window like it was me until it shattered/ He pulled me out, he said, ‘Don’t nobody love you but me, not your mama, not your daddy, and especially not B.’”

Talk a Good Game arrives June 18 featuring Wiz Khalifa, Pharrell, Beyoncé, Michelle Williams, and more.

I am floored at the honesty in this song. Such a powerful message. You never know what your fave is going through. Can’t wait to buy Talk A Good Game on June 18th!

To the stupid people, this song is NOT bashing Beyonce and the unidentified man she’s talking about is NOT her ex-fiance, Roy Williams.

if its such a personal sbject why couldnt you take the time to write it yourself. the song is nice but has zero sincerity.

  27. Truth

The song is good but just doesnt sound second single worthy. Im honestly not liking this era for Kelly she needs a breakthrough album but i guess she cant because Beyonce needs to be the center of attention at all times.

    [Reply]

    Miguel Reply:

@Truth, you had me until you said “because Beyonce…”. you do realize that didn’t make any sense right?

    [Reply]

    Truth Reply:

@Miguel, and thats ok because its the Truth. We very well all know Beyonce has overshadowed Kellys shine and Kelly has what it takes to make it on that level but keep it 100 with yourself Beyonce needs to be the center of attention all the time. What would happen if Kellys album were to sell half a million in a week and went on to sell big records overall she would still be outshined.

    [Reply]

    enough Said Reply:

@Truth, i agree. Kelly deserves better and i know for sure she is the type of artist who could breakthrough but she needs bigger and better songs. Motivation was on the right track i know Kelly wants those big uptempo records but she feels she would be trying to step into Beyonce’s shoes. i dont see this album performing that well on the charts ill say between 70-90k at most.

    [Reply]

    damon Reply:

@enough Said, why is it all about charts and numbers? homegirl set for life. FOR LIFE. what if its about putting beautiful music into the world? not everyone is trying to be “on top” artist create art. hence the term “artists”

    [Reply]

    Ursula Reply:

@Truth, The truth is Beyonce has stepped on those girls’ backs to get where she is today. I think she did them dirty and Kelly has had to learn to move on and get past it. If she really wanted to spill all the tea on the Knowles family, I believe she very well could.

    [Reply]

    Miguel Reply:

@Ursula, …I highly doubt Beyonce stepping on their backs to get where she is now. Did you ever think that maybe that was her team’s (father) mission? Let’s stop blaming everything on Bey because we need to find something negative about her. When you have the facts then we’ll believe you. Until then, you need more people.
P.S. I’m sure people assume things about you that aren’t true only difference is you have to face that, Bey doesn’t. ;)

Wow. Amazing. Bravo! As a fan if Kelly & Beyonce, I do believe Kelly Rowland was transparent on this track …more than beyonce was in ever in her career as a solo artist. This is what fans & avid music lovers want— transparency! Not everything is all good in the hood lol

Kudos! And Kudos to Beyonce for holding her sister down!
