Candice Glover Wins ‘American Idol,’ Readies Debut Album for July

Music Speaks

Candice Glover joined Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, and Jordin Sparks by becoming the newest “American Idol.” Only hours after the confetti fell from the “Idol” stage, the South Carolina singer had already announced her debut album.

The 23-year-old excursions coordinator from St. Helena Island beat out country singer Kree Harrison in Thursday’s finale and performed a duet with her idol Jennifer Hudson.

Glover, who cites Jazmine Sullivan and Christina Aguilera as inspirations, auditioned three times before winning. She was still soaking in the surreal moment.

“I don’t remember [Ryan Seacrest] saying my name,” Glover told The AP. “I do remember confetti getting in my mouth.”

The vocal powerhouse has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Interscope Records and will release her full-length debut Music Speaks on July 16. The album is available for pre-order on iTunes featuring her coronation song “I Am Beautiful.”

Glover will hit the road with her fellow “Idol” contestants on the “American Idol” summer tour, kicking off June 29 in St. Louis. She is also set to visit “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “Live! With Kelly & Michael” during her press tour.

@thor, EXACTLY! I hadn’t watched in years but when I saw Candice audition this year I’ve been glued ever since. I’m SO glad she won. She has a beautiful spirit and seems VERY genuwine. I voted EVERY week for her too. LOL I went hard this week though I was like she BETTER win! Cant wait to see where she goes, I’m gonna be right there. Not here for the AI tour though I think MOST of it will be a bit corny even though they had some solid talent this season. Candice, Kree, Amber, Devin, Curtis “maybe” Burnell would be the only ones I care to see anyway especially Candice~

@ewr, They began recording their original songs once they became the top 4.

@ewr, the top 3 finalist recorded their single before the winner was announced… Stop trying to make something out of nothing!

    ewr Reply:

@WhyYouMad, i was genuinely curious wasnt trying to start anything, jerk!

    Joey Reply:

@ewr, they all probably started working on music

@ewr, the top 3 or 4 always record a single. They’ve been doing that just about every season…

so glad she won. but is it me or does this album seem so manufactured? generic title, ready made album cover, the song already tailored for her. like where was the creation part. im thinking they had the exact same thing in place for kree harrison. i know 90% of pop singers are creatively useless, but why not take some time to make an honest record instead of this manufactured cashing in crap? sigh. at back to rock and rap for me.

@ewr, Artist usually dont get creative freedom right off the bat. When you first sign to a label as a new comer they usually manufacture your image and make you presentable and marketable to the world. After that proves to be successful then eventually you can get more input in song creation and what not. It sucks but thats usually how it is. Unless you have a record deal that states otherwise like the Weeknd.

I was all for AMBER, but CANDICE is great too. I hope she’s successful. I actually like the recorded version of this song. It reminds me of Fantasia and Kelley’s coronation songs.
