Kelly Rowland Breaks Down While Performing ‘Dirty Laundry’

Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland let it all out during the kickoff of the “Lights Out” tour with The-Dream in Washington, D.C. last night. The Destiny’s Child diva performed her emotional single “Dirty Laundry” off her upcoming album Talk a Good Game, but she couldn’t hold back tears as she shared her confessions with the audience at The Fillmore.

“He turned me against my sister, I missed ya,” sang Kelly before breaking down (4:19).

But her fans cheered her on and after wiping away her tears, she picked it back up and finished the song.

Watch her raw performance below.

Girl BYE Kelly…this is so wack. That was so staged, notice the music stops conveniently for her to “break down”…Kelly stop using this as a way to gain sympathy to make people buy your TIRED music. You haven’t been hot since DC, and no matter how much surgery you have, still black and ugly. Faking domestic violence is quite pathetic.

I maybe completely off bases with this one but some how, i’m not sympathetic like others whom are displaying sympathy for Kelly and her past! I feel like this is a ploy to gain a higher recognition (due to her slow rise in stardom since DC) via sympathy! This isn’t the first time an artist used that tactic! Why now? Timing is off!!

I due appreciate honesty and empathy as much as the other person but i don’t get that sympathy vibe! Maybe if she had talked about it before giving us a hint (not musically but through interviews), i would be sympathetic!

The music industry today has become SO fake and manipulative that it’s difficult and damn near impossible to believe everything you see and hear (i.e. Ciara and Rihanna’s beef which to me was a publicity stunt on Ciara’s management part to make her comeback since she’s now under the same management Rihanna was once under). #I’mJustSay’n

I understand how you are skeptical because the industry is probably very orchestrated.

I’m not particularly a fan or anything, but you bring up a couple interesting points. I think if she brought it up in interviews and then wrote a song, it would have come across even more as a publicity stunt because it would look like she was trying to build hype.

My guess is that after three albums, she finally felt free enough to speak about these things and be a little more honest with her music (amidst the other 97% of her catalog, which is all about sex…)

@You Thought It I Post It, Obviously u don’t know anything about Kelly’s music trying to sound all nice and intelligent. She’s been signing about it since Destiny’s Fulfilled. Her unreleased album “My Story” 1st single “Gosta Go” was all about it. The entire album was suppose to be about it, ut she decide against the money and did not release it. Plus it was to fresh n too painful at the time. Half of 2nd her album “Miss Kelly” was about that relationship, the ups and the down. Still she decide against making any of the related song singles, hence disregard the money. Here I am “Heaven and Earth” was her finally coming out. ‘Angel’, ‘No man no cry’, ‘Broken’, ‘Moving without you’, ‘Bad Habits’, I could go on and on about Kelly’s music (because I’m a fan and always wish she could profit from them) But NO she NEVER made them single. Thatdoesn’t mean she didn’t sing about the abuse. But like she said in Dirty Laundry “She on Fire, who would wanna know her BS”. Ppl was soooo far up Bey’s ass that Kelly’s confession went unnoticed. But thank God, FAME ASIDE Bey is her good friend, and help her through some though $hit behind the music. lets face it, when it comes to FAME Bey is no one friend.

So let me see u as an artist who know u can make money out of something that is 10 yrs old and decide against it. this industry is not about music only, its about what sells. so shut ur dumb face and irrelevant opinion about timing. U don’t know the half of this industry stupid.

@Myrl22, @Myrl22, yessssss you better rep for the Rowland stones. As a true Stan since 1997 her catalogue has a variety of subjects above love, breakups, internal struggles, and triumph. She is on her 4th album and for the band wagoners who are only now realizing her power try to bring her down out of sheer ignorance. Simply deep had nothing to do with sex but went unnoticed. Ms Kelly tread lightly on that subject where Here I Am went full throttl ala Janet’s Velvet Rope. Talk A Good Game feels like a blend of all 3 albums. The depth of Simply Deep, the R&B sass of Ms Kelly, and the sensual and sexual finesse of Here I Am, all rolled into 1 sprinkled with her new found power as an INDIVIDUAL. This album is gonna be firrrrrrrreeeeeee! I as a Stan can hardly wait. If feel that it’s gonna be the blueprint for all of her albums to come! WORK!

It’s really sad that some of you are coming down on her for being so honest now. Its probably easy for her to put a mask on and sing “motivation” and “ice” and songs like that, but this is a song that deals with a situation that NONE OF US knew about until now. Its not about album sales, its about her finally being honest about something she went through, that will make more people connect with her now than they have ever connected with her and her music before. If you don’t like it fine, but don’t sit here and say she’s being fake or just doing it for record sales.

  11. Fake

I’m sorry people, but this is fake. The music stops at a precise moment to allow her to break down. This is inauthentic. It’s not real. Why else would the music stop? If this was an authentic breakdown the time between the breakdown and music stopping would’ve have been delayed. Notice that she never shows herself crying. She covers up her face, because she’s not crying and relying on theatrics. I like the song and all, but this is the truth.

@Fake, this video is not even a good quality one so how can u comment when u weren’t there. did u pause it n zoomed in on her face after she put her head up and finish the song and determine that “yes” she was faking it? if u weren’t at the rehearsals n didn’t pay the front row seat u shouldn’t be giving ur f*king opinion about authenticity. this was a live band whom she rehearsed with, so they know how to read the artist AND VIBE WITH HER. SO SHIT UR FACE N go fine the definition of AUTHENTICITY.

    Myrl22 Reply:

@turquoise., She’s been singing about it and use the song as album fillers n I bet u never heard them. AS A MATTER OF FACT SHE BEEN FILLING HER ALBUM WITH HER STORY FOR ALMOST A DECADE, and use Sex Songs as singles, and they didn’t do too good. People been asking for her to sing about stuff her fans and other ppl can related to. Now she put those song in the forefront u say OH IT SHOULD BE AN ALBUM FILLER NOT A SINGLE.

I listen to this song EVERYDAY since it came out because I can relate and I know a lot of ppl that goes to stuff like that. So if u cant relate don’t go around saying it shouldn’t be a single. we need something at the top of the Chart that is not about Pussy and Hoes for a change but about real live struggle

I understand some may be skeptical that this is staged, but if you listen to the actual song, the background music stops at the exact same spot and she cues it back in with her vocals, just as she did in this performance. The only reason the band didn’t start playing again was because they saw that she was crying and wasn’t ready to continue.

I was in attendance at the concert and I can assure you that this was not staged or fake. The music stopped because if you notice she started tearing up half way through the song and her voice kept cracking as she tried not to cry. Ignorance at its best. The song is about personal life issues and some people cry when theyre upset. Stop sitting behind your computer and talking shit.

@okay!, lots of artists create personal songs they perform.

They’ll eventually work through it and be able to sing it.

Unless it’s about someone who died, that’d be harder to sing about and “move on” from. Since they’ll always be gone, vs you being in a happy place instead of being abused.

I have been a DC fan for years and I love Kelly. Sometimes you decide to shelve a project due to timing or emotional build up. She is genuine and refreshing. All of the girls have great albums but Ms. Carter is getting too far out there for me. Kelly and Michelle are more for grown folks and not kids. Some of the children on here don’t appreciate good music when they hear it unless we see a coochie being popped all over the place or someone dropping low1
