Album Cover: Kanye West – ‘Yeezus’

Yeezus

Hear ‘Ye, hear ‘Ye. Kanye West has unveiled the official cover for his sixth album Yeezus. A blank CD appears behind a clear plastic case with a piece of red duct tape attached to the side and the title scrawled out in Sharpie.

Kim Kardashian and members of Yeezy’s crew previously tweeted photos of a different cover that appeared to have a melted Jesus piece and the red tape.

When you mouse over the cover on KanyeWest.com, you can hear 13 seconds of a new song reportedly titled “Bound.” (If you can’t access the site, listen to the audio below.)

The packaging was designed by DONDA, Kanye’s creative company, which also did the art for 2 Chainz’ Based on a T.R.U. Story and Lil Wayne’s I Am Not a Human Being II.

There will reportedly be no pre-orders in advance of the June 18 street date. Kanye debuted his new Frank Ocean-assisted song “New Slaves” via projection screens across the world and performed new material for the first time on “SNL” earlier this month.

What do you think of the cover art? Let us know in the comments below.

Well, you will NEVER please the haters, when they thought it was him on the cross, there was bullsh*t outrage, now there is nothing to b*tch about there is still a problem, I guess he is saying, it’s about the music. Take it or leave it. Kanye FANS and real hip hop FANS will buy it if it was in a brown paper bag. It will sell like all his albums does, because the true heads will buy it.

What’s Interesting Is That If This Was Any Other Artist’s “Album Cover” Ya Would Say “This Shit Is Wack” “Corny” Etc. But Since It’s “Kanye West” Ya DICKRIDE Him & Say “WOW, He Steps Outside The Box” Or “This Is Art”

    BYE.

Meh, i expected something similar to the the cruel summer/watch the throne album cover

    [Reply]

    Brad Reply:

@Oh well, expected. But you get to do whatever you want with the cover essentially. And I’m guessing he wants people to focus on the music and not an extravagant cover. Like when people give out a demo tape, there’s no cover because the music speaks volumes, more than a piece of art ever could.

@Brad, Lets not accept this less for more. It’s garbage. if that joint came thru most radio/music exec/ar/dj’s hand, they’ll toss it in the pile of bs that look like that with out hesitation.

    [Reply]

    Brad Reply:

@ghetto arse rick, actually, LET’S accept this for less is more. Considering this is the most anticipated album of the year, DJs will definitely know whose album it is when they come across it. The red tape is unmistakeable. You’re just dumb.

Despite his weird way of marketing the album and lack of traditional promotion, the snippet does kinda sound like his old style of production. Wouldn’t it be great if he went back to his roots on this album? I really couldn’t get into the My Dark Twisted Beautiful Fantasy stuff.

Seems like the attention seeking man that he is! Lost all respect for him because of this album title! I thought the blogs were creating a joke in reference to him supposedly apart of the illuminati or free mason w/e crap but apparently it’s true! Here’s why i lost the respect because the title is basically boarder-lining blasphemous! It’s one thing to be original or creative but claiming a title of that nature and putting it on an LP that more than likely is explicit is disrespectful! I’m not trying to poke finger or get all religious but it is what it is!

Smh. Really YE. IF THIS is the cover it shows a lack of respect for his buyers, those that aspire to be in his position and those who don’t hv millions of dollars. It looks like a bootleg CD. Then u gonna charge full retail for it? U have an art department and this the best they can come up with???

That snippit gave me hope that Kanye is going back to his College Dropout style sampling.

    [Reply]

  21. JHP

The snippet does sound like some College Dropout/Late Registration-era Kanye stuff, but considering the fact that songs like Black Skinhead & New Slaves are on the album, I highly doubt soulful music will be the main style heard. The song we heard in the snippet will probably be the only soulful song on there, like Devil In A New Dress was the only classic Ye sounding song on MBDTF

  22. Natasha

FYI EVERYONE……The cover artwork of the album is THE picture of the CD in a case on a cardboard style packaging. Its not gonna come in a clear plastic case with a piece of tape on it.

The point is, every other rapper has some art to help attract consumers to buy their album, but Kanye doesn’t need that. The music speaks for itself. And if you think the album title is distasteful then that’s cool. But he’s calling himself the Jesus of rap, not the world. So calm down and stop looking for things to whine about.

    [Reply]

    ALY Reply:

@Brad, I doubt the cover of an album will really attract consumers, besides if there is a rapper who does a lot for attention it’s Kanye. It wouldn’t surprise me if he came up with this art, because it would get people talking. The same reason the title of the album is Yeezus.

    [Reply]

    karamelkisses Reply:

@ALY, thank you! kanye doesn’t need the attention? really? he is the biggest baby in the game. when he doesn’t get his way, he has public temper tantrums. now he’s making music ranting against the machine (new slaves) but he & his baby mova’ are epitome of what’s wrong w/ the industry & society today. this ye’ era & lifestyle are a complete contradiction … GOODbye!

    [Reply]

    Brad Reply:

@ALY, maybe you’re right, maybe he did do it for attention. But we may never know. From what I can tell, he does it for the art. But the lack of art forces listeners to really listen, and not rely on art to tell an album’s story or purpose.

    [Reply]

    Natasha Reply:

@Brad, whether he does it for attention or not it doesn’t really matter. He delivers with quality music, which is what gets him the attention he actually wants. (grammys, etc)

Kanye West is a great music artist who puts out great music, so I am going to reserve judgement until I hear this album completely out. Anybody who judges a music artist’s music based on an album cover, or an album’s title name is either completely stupid, or misguided when it comes to music. If you don’t like the album cover, that’s one thing, but don’t judge the music off an album cover when you haven’t listen to all the music off the album at all.

There was this rumor that Kanye wanted to keep the album cover blank because he had multiple cover ideas. So many in fact that he was gonna post them up online on his website and let the fans buy whichever one they prefer.

Just a rumor, but a pretty cool idea in my opinion if this was true. As long as the covers were like 1 dollar each lol

The cover sucks… honestly. But I like the singles, “New Slaves” with the Frank Ocean addition is just brilliant and “Black Skinhead” easily could be on “808s & Heartbreak”
This sample, well sounds like Classic Kanye, the Kanye we all love, but I hate that Chief Keef will be on the album.

@GAITE ADOOLPHE, …I think the BOUND snippet sounds amazing!(so far)

I think this teaser cover is what it is..a TEASER. He’s being very brief with his album on a whole. I wasnt expecting to see anything final.

And for the people judging the cross album cover…you do realize hes not the first to do that? Do you guys remember a gentleman doing business by the name of Tupac Shakur? His 7 day theory album is him on the cross…Please look at the bigger Hip-Hop picture then inside your selfish wishes.

Just because you are a fan does not entitle you to anything the artist has. PERIOD. let the artist play his role as the director and you as a fan play your role in deciding to support the artist or not.
