I listened earlier. This makes it 2 wonderful albums in a row from Mr. Cole. Congrats to him. The “Money” interlude is outstanding.

    Ehh, pretty mediocre to me.
Great production. Boring raps(no, I don’t listen to 2 chainz and chief keef. No his lyrics are not “above me”, he’s just boring)
Should have had more rap features tbh
    Really disappointed

You people know nothing about real music. Yes, he’s “boring” because he’s not talking money, pussy and weed and you can’t shake your ass to the vast majority of these tracks. There is nothing “average” about this album — Sideline Story was average. This is a vast improvement from that. If y’all knew anything about the man’s mixtapes, you would know why. Disappointed that it leaked, but his fanbase is deep and has only gotten deeper since his debut album. He’ll be fine. And I’m “defending” him not as a “stan” but as a hip-hop fan — period — who is happy someone has decided not to lower his standards to appeal the ignorant masses.

The same ones calling J. Cole boring have very likely never purchased any of his material or attended any of his shows. Their opinions don’t matter in the long run. It’s easy to criticize the artists you don’t support.

What exactly about this is “boring?” Does it make you uncomfortable because it’s storytelling and you can’t handle a lot of the lyrical content? A lot of fans of The Come Up, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights are thrilled. But new fans can’t relate, so I understand.

So Cole isnt rapping over trap beats and all of a sudden he’s trash? lmaoo its little niglets like you that rap is dying cause ya lowlifes perfer the trash side of it. Cole, Kendrick are trying to save hip-hop but ya ignoring it. Ok man

I’ve been a huge Cole fan since Friday Night Lights. This album isn’t doing it for me. In all honesty, the combined Truly Yours EPs would have made a better album than this.

Wow! Mr Cole, You outdid yourself. Way Better than you debut album. Not that his first album was bad, there was a few tracks that were good, but his second effort is an album you can listen to from start to finish without skipping a track. Got my copy Pre-Ordered

This one isn’t going number 1, Kanye is going number 1. Let’s be honest coming out the same week as Kanye it’s inevitable.

    [Reply]

    Jess Reply:

@Glen, Cole isn’t concerned with going #1, you fool. It’s all about numbers and chart positions with you people. Never know, though … Kanye doesn’t even have a single out yet and Cole has all this buzz surrounding him. The real fans have already preordered Born Sinner and will show up anyway but also to spite you fanboys.

    [Reply]

    Glen Reply:

@Jess, I’m not even a Kanye fan boy. I couldn’t give a toss about the numbers. I’m making statements based on factual information from previous Kanye record sales. Cole may not be concerned about going with #1 but I’m sure his record label will be concerned about his numbers. Contrary I’m a bigger J Cole fan, his mixtapes were much better than these mediocre albums. Friday Night Lights and The Warm Up are my favourites, they top these awful albums. So joeks on you, cretin.

Not great, his first album is still better than this by miles. Kanye will take the number 1 spot, its kind of obvious

    [Reply]

    Marcia Reply:

@davewixie, Cole World is not better than this, in any way. That album was all over the place — forced introspective songs here and forced commercial songs there and y’all bitched for months. This album is cohesive and now you’re still complaining. Typical. And no, it’s not “obvious” who will hit the top spot. We shall see.

  27. thedon

F*ck all the haters, if you’re hating on this album then you must not understand ”Real LYRICISM” therefore go listen to some Starships crap or something because this album was awesome, like I said J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar are best rappers right now and nobody touching them.

“Power Trip” came out and people on this blog were all on the man’s sack and now they’ve made a complete 180. Y’all …. listen. I don’t have time for your mood swings. Make up your mind — you either think he’s a dope MC or you think he’s wack.

Hadn’t been able to listen to it from start t finish until now. Personally, I think it’s a beautiful, creative album. He snapped on the first track!! How can you not appreciate that? Lyrically, not a lazy track on the album. Some of the beats are very chill, and for today’s generation of “rap fans” if you don’t break your neck reacting to it, the artist in question ain’t shit. One of the best albums of 2013, for any genre, hands down. Learned my lesson last time I wanted to cop, couldn’t find the album in any stories in my city (and the same shit happened for Frank Ocean’s debut) so I just decided to get a digital copy this time. Good luck to all yall wanting a physical for your ride, hopefully they’ll have better sense than to screw Cole & the consumers over this time.

The album isn’t trash at all, I actually really like it, it’s way more real than his last album full of singing. BUT, with that said, it’s going to slightly pale in comparison to Ye’s album (Which hasn’t even leaked yet so there’s the first advantage)I mean he even uses Ye references in his songs and re uses some of the things he has said, so if this had been released by itself over the summer, it would be taken in more gladly, but this is Jordan Vs. Kobe here, you can’t ignore the truth here.
