Jay-Z to Release New Album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ on July 4

Jay-Z

The Heat and the Spurs weren’t the only ones making moves during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. In a commercial for Samsung Mobile, Jay-Z announced that his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail will arrive on July 4.

Through his partnership with the company, 1 million Samsung Galaxy fans will be able to download the app on June 24 and get the album for free on July 4, three days before the rest of the world does on July 7.

In the three-minute spot, the Roc Nation mogul can be seen working on new music with Rick Rubin, Timbaland, Pharrell, and Swizz Beatz.

“Pretty much the object of this album is this duality of how do you navigate your way through this whole thing, through success, through failures, through all this, and remain yourself?” explained Mr. Carter.

I wonder what Kanye and Kim will do to shine the spotlight back in their direction now since Kanye’s good friend has a few weeks until his album drops?

@Gob1in, I swear Kim and Kanye stay on you haters minds. I doubt Kanye gives a sh*t about any of this, while he is holding and loving up on his baby girl. Have a seat.

@vj, Born Sinner is one of the best albums of the year, irrespective to genre. Cole should definitely walk away with at least 2 Grammys. Hell of a step up from Sideline Story.

@vj, yea but you know the Grammy’s are all based on popularity. Kanye or Jay-Z will obviously sweep the rap gategories while Kendrick and J. Cole will leave empty handed. SMH.

    [Reply]

    DAN Reply:

@vj, How many albums get nominated? 5 right? If that’s the case I fear either cole’s or Kendrick’s album will be out of nomination. Em’s album will also come out and he is always nominated for his stuff. Drake, Jay Z, kanye, em, jcole/Kendrick. WOW that would be one crazy category.

Ok BEHIVES!!! A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!! So my bestfriend’s sister is a backup dancer for KING B and she was telling us that Beyonce is deciding weather she should drop her new single the same day as her BET experience set or wait until the tour is done! And we heard she’s doing this because she really wants Kelly to win and she doesn’t like the comparison between them. Also Michelle her other sister is dropping new music this summer and we all know it’s been a while since she came out with new music so she doesn’t want all 3 of them at the same time because ppl are gonna compare them etc which is gonna overshadow their new music!

I like Jay Z but when you look at Kanye’s methods and Jay Z method. I think Kanye’s is more genius, other than Def Jam Kanye is pretty much staying away from being tied to Corporate America, he is soley dependent upon the music and his fans, whereby Jay Z is tied into corporate America so he has to walk the straight line, he can easily end up like Rick Ross if he does the wrong thing, use the wrong word, or just happen to be in he wrong place, it’s all about brand in Corporate America, Kanye brought the music directly to the fan base, he has not done any singles, he is not doing radio, none of that, and his sales will be his sales they will be what the fans actually bought not what a corporation bought, they are both genius for changing the game and cutting gout the middle man, but Kanye has totally removed the middle man, Jay Z on the other hand is still stuck with them, he has to walk the fine line. To take control means to not be dependent upon to many people for your success, that is a change in the game.

    [Reply]

@Jessica, I dont mind walking the line if it brings in that cash.

The 2014 Grammy Awards is going to be very great, and interesting compare to previous Grammy Awards. As it looks right now, Kendrick Lamar’s GOOD Kid M.A.A.D. City album, Kanye West’s Yeezus album, J. Cole’s Born Sinner album, Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album, and Drake’s Nothing Was The Same album are going to be the top 5 final nominees for Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. If Eminem’s 8th studio solo album comes out before the Grammy Awards deadline, then Eminem will be nominated for Best Rap Album. This looks like a very good year for hip hop right now.

    [Reply]

    Zack Reply:

@TRA, I wouldnt line out Big Sean and Wale too fast. Im not saying they will be there, but they could be a surprise.

    [Reply]

    DAN Reply:

@TRA, How many can get nominated? I really think both Kendrick and cole deserve a nom, but if em drops before the deadline he will take on of their spots surely. Arg….both of them have dope ass albums.

    [Reply]

    TRA Reply:

@DAN, At the 2013 Grammy Awards, Drake, Nas, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, 2 Chainz, and Rick Ross were all nominated for Best Rap Album, and Drake won Best Rap Album. The 2013 Grammy Awards was the first time I can remember that 6 different rappers were nominated for Best Rap Album, instead of 5 nominees like normal every other year. I can tell you right now that Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, and Jay-Z are the top 3 biggest locks to get nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. If Drake and Eminem come out with new albums before the Grammy Awards deadline, then Drake and Eminem will both be nominated for Best Rap Album. J. Cole will get nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards, if Eminem’s new album don’t come out on time. I think we will only see 5 rappers nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. It would not surprise me if we get 6 nominees for Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards, because we saw 6 different rappers get nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards last season.

So basically Jay- Z just took the shine from J. Cole for his own benefit? This was suppose to be the year Cole transcended from ” Honorable Mentions” list to A- Class Hip Hop Alumni. Yeezus already derailed that mission and now his own boss Jay- Z is just driving the final nail in Cole’s coffin. I love Jay but damn , this one time could he not let a youngin have his turn? Damn.
