Dawn Richard Readies ‘BlackHeart’ for October

Dawn Richard

Dawn Richard is ushering in the black era. Following her debut GoldenHeart, the former Dirty Money diva will release her sophomore album BlackHeart this fall.

The second album in her three-part trilogy will arrive on October 7. “As I continue to make and create more magic for you. With that being said though. I have good news. Get ready. BlackHeart is coming,” she said. “10/7/13 !!!! #TheBlackEra”

She also announced that the video for “Riot”/”Northern Lights” off GoldenHeart will not be released.

“Dear hearts! Due to a change in team the riot/northern lights short film will not be coming out. I love you guys and hope you’ll be patient,” she said.

The trilogy began with her critically-acclaimed debut GoldenHeart in January and will commence with RedemptionHeart in 2014.

Last month, there were rumors that Danity Kane was getting back together after four members were seen having lunch in L.A. “We’ll see. Everything is a we’ll see at this point,” Dawn told Pacific Rim Video when asked if a reunion is in the works. “The possibilities are endless now.”

Yesssss! Man Dawn may be the most underrated artist of our time. For real. Her dancing skills. Vocal ability. Business savvy and creative lyrical process is unmatched. Every artist always mentions how dope she is. It’s nuts!

I have to agree with above statement. Her hustle is unmatched and talent is beyond. She is like the independent Beyonce. I know people will get on me for saying that. But I’ve seen all we work and she is that good. For real. Her live vocals are insane and her dancing. Man! The only difference is she has no major backing. If a label had her I have no doubt she would be huge! She’s huge now in the underground circuit.

Hopefully she found a new home with a major label? She needs to be pushed by a Major for sure and she deserves the success. Hopefully thats the good news thats coming.

TOO excited for this release! I hope her distribution company keeps her so we can buy physical copies of this album too. It sucks that the Riot/Northern Lights video isn’t coming out but I know she’s got something great up her sleeve. All we can do now is wait and continue to support Goldenheart.

It’s good to see people know Dawns worth. People forget she has only been solo a year. She hasn’t even reached her best potential. And that’s saying so much. Dawn is one the best artist of our time .. Regardless of what you want to believe. She is that good

As a Heart it’s sooo freakin cool to see that people get it now. She’s so camp awesome. I used to wish that she’d get signed by a major but now I don’t. I hope she keeps doing what she’s doing and growing her fanbase and pocketing most of the hard earned money for herself and her new team as opposed to gettin trapped into some labels mess. All labels seem to be good for these days is rippin artists off & messin up their art by turnin it into some commercial vehicle to support the label instead of what’s in a Artist’s best interest. Hey look what Mac Miller and Mackelmore did being independent. She can do the same.

@Literati Rhapsody, man you said it! I’m giddy and smiling a a heart as well. She really is that great. Dawn rivals if not equals the biggest stars out. And that’s with no machine!!! People forget she has been this dope. Look at old DK live shows. Or Dirty Money’s tour. She was showing out then. Her fashion, ideas, lyrics, man everything is just great. I look on this thread and I’m happy!! People are really getting her and respecting her

I love Don, but sorry to say, this will flop. Her label doesn’t push well enough, and it’s sad because her talent is amazing.

    [Reply]

    Beck Reply:

@Shae, she isn’t signed babe. Just shows you that people don’t even know she isn’t signed based off how great her work is. She is independent. No label no back up no anything. SPIN magazine just names her last album one of the best albums of 2013. So flop isn’t really what Dawn does. She’s winning in the underground world. She is an underground artist babe

I’m here for Blackheart but I must say something in the buttermilk ain’t clean here. I intern at a record label and have heard that her name in the industry is tarnished. Some even go as far as saying that she’s been “blackballed”. Maybe that’s why she hasn’t been signed to a major yet. It’s just odd to me that she keeps jumping from one team to the next especially when her and Druski had something so good ya know? He seemed like a real genuine person and from what I hear around the office is that he really helped get her solo career together. He was doing her PR, Marketing, road managing, musical directing her show. So why stop now? I went to her show in NYC two weeks ago and he wasn’t there. I’ve been to her shows before and that show wasn’t her best. I like Dawn but something about her isn’t genuine. I read the article she did on another site and it seemed like she threw her whole team under the bus. I saw how she responded on Twitter about the situation and it came off very bitter and dishonest. Dawn if you are reading this, I hope the rumors aren’t true. I like you and Druski together. But if they aren’t working together anymore I won’t be surprise if this album doesn’t make a mark like her work with him did. Artist always suffer when they stray away from what made us love them cc: Janet, Amerie, Brandy and Lady Gaga to name a few.

@JustThoughtYouShouldKnow, drew is that you. Lmao. We did not need This long essay ha! You went above and beyond. Good music is good music. No one cares. If you work at a label why come on rap up and say all. This. When it doesn’t reflect how awesome she is. People are hilarious. Go dawn!

@Minaj vs Azealie, I was going to say the same thing. This is way too long to be a fan. Lol. Hahahhaa someone is bitter. I don’t see anything on twitter that even spoke about her tea. Negatively. So this has to be someone close lol. No one seeds to know this. I just want good music. It seems to me this person saw all the positive comments and made it there mission to say something negative. I hope we do better man. Artist

@JustThoughtYouShouldKnow, but what’s crazy. Is people act like Dawn wasn’t hot before this. She made that producer hot. She created that sound. I mean the fisticuffs was on the album and that guy d miles. I actually think she gave major love to that guy. In ever interview she spoke about him. Even on this site. So hmmm I’m looking on twitter and I see that guy drew saying pretty horrible things to her with no response. Seems he used her a bit and now isn’t he an artist. Seems like he is choosing to be an artist. So unless you want to name gaga and Amerie’s producers becoming singers. I’d say dawn makes great music wherever she goes. Shrugs.

@JustThoughtYouShouldKnow, hmm… I’m a huge fan of hers and its funny that you mentioned this because I have heard this before. The person who showed her the ropes taught her these techniques (Sean combs)… I have a few friends that have worked with her and say she has stolen material from them. I won’t go any further though. I wish her the best and I will continue being a fan because she is extremely talented and she deserves her shine. I just wish she didn’t play the game so dirty.

    [Reply]

    Cory Reply:

@JNN, stole what though. How can you steal music that is overly samples redone and so on. People are funny.

    [Reply]

    JNN Reply:

@Cory, Like I said, she steals from other undiscovered, unknown, underground artist that are so blinded by her as an artist. They agree to work with and write with her and she loves the material, yet she wouldn’t use it. She will take elements and things from what they do for her and incorporate them in her own songs. It’s called stealing. You think you know everything but like I said, I KNOW. I’m in the industry.

    Matt Basically Reply:

@JustThoughtYouShouldKnow, You might have a point, and you may know better than I do, but I still find this a little far-fetched. She said she wouldn’t be opposed to being on a label, but I think the main reason she hasn’t jumped was because she needs her creative freedom. Being in 2 different groups and saying she can’t release music for 2 years probably has something to do with that. She doesn’t wanna be tied up in that 360.

And these days when someone like Paris Hilton and Amanda Bynes can get a deal, why wouldn’t Dawn be able to?

And no one really knows the story between she and Druski. We don’t really know why they’re not working together anymore. It COULD be his fault.

I read another interview recently, she said Dru IS still on this album…just not as much.

By switching teams…I assume she means management or label. I don’t see her not releasing a music video because she had a so-called falling out with Dru…lol. Doesn’t make sense.

    [Reply]

    JNN Reply:

@@KingCoward, where have you been!? He is not on the album AT ALL. have you seen the quarrel on twitter? They are no longer friends, partners, working together, none of it… That is why she canceled the singles from goldenheart. She wanted nothing to do with dru and carla, the two who wrote the songs.

    [Reply]

    Matt Basically Reply:

@JNN, See now I’m about to waste my whole day reading through both of their tweets trying to see what they were saying….

    [Reply]

    @KingCoward Reply:

@JNN, I just read the string of tweets between Dru and a fan of Dawn’s. Seems like there was a falling out…my bad.

I also looked at Carla’s tweets…seems like it might have been over money…I saw a sub tweet from her on that.

But my thing is this…no one will ever be as dedicated to your vision, as YOU will. I often wondered how long the whole team would last. I’m sure they aren’t making a ton of money… YET.

Just like any small business…takes time for a profit, and I’m sure Dru and crew weren’t having that. Understandable on both ends.

    [Reply]

    Matt Basically Reply:

@@KingCoward, Not like we’ll ever know the real story, but it does look like it was over money, based on Carla’s subtweets. But what I can’t wrap my head around is that Drew was her producer/manager/PR. So it’s not like they didn’t know the money sitch…

I wonder if that ($$) is why the video isn’t coming out…

    [Reply]

    @KingCoward Reply:

@Matt Basically, Well the video is done (filmed, edited, ready to go)…so I don’t think $ was the issue w/ it coming out.

I think its truly because she wants to have nothing to do w/ them…or that legally they can stop her from further promoting these songs too probably (if they wanted to get that nasty with it lol). So, I”m sure she just wants to avoid all potential issues/conflicts.

    Cory Reply:

@JNN, chile dawn wrote that album.. I saw the credits folks. Research! Carla barely wrote 2 songs and her and that other guy co executive produced the album. I think the one song she did the video too NL is the one he wrote. She wrote on Riot. Matter of fact. The intro, return of a queen, Goliath ode to you. Goldenheart , riot. Tug of war. Frequency. In your eyes all written by her. That the whole album chile.

    [Reply]

    JNN Reply:

@Cory, baby…. No she did not. I am very well connected. Dawn did not write her whole albums. Credits don’t tell you anything. Dawn takes songwriting credits and liberaties that she shouldn’t but think what you want. I’m not trying to knock her because I’m a fan but people think they know everything and no nothing.

    Hello All,

I just wanted to say yes it is sad at what happened with Dawn and Dru but just let it be their business. They’re normal people who normally don’t want to be bothered with 1 million questions in regards to their personal issues. I suggest to pray that they will reunite past the differences for the last album. To deliver the last message that Dawn has to give us. Everyone has experienced a friendship in which when you spend all your time with that person you find that you need space. Most likely that’s all they need, so just as they are giving each other space in regards to their differences. That means we should be doing the same as well. Hope yall understand.

  21. RelationshipsMatter

Bottom line is you can have all the talent in the world, but if you lack character and the ability to maintain key relationships, then you will not SUCCEED! I look at the trends…every group/relationship she has been in has had drama. Take for instance Making the Band, I watched and Dawn was manipulative and sneaky with the girls, Diddy, and even Que. Watched how she rode the Que relationship for fame and then played him publicly when she was ready to move on. Then while with Dirty Money she and Kalenna were cool, but not any longer and Diddy dropped her knowing her talent (highly strange for a user, but he met his match). Now she is no longer with the Druski team and I’ll bet her relationship with the young’n Deonte is only until she doesn’t need him anymore. If you continually have relationship issues, it may be time to look at yourself as the common factor. You can only use people for sooo long – talent or not!
