Video: Chris Brown f/ Aaliyah – ‘Don’t Think They Know’

Chris Brown

After a few delays, Chris Brown debuts the video for “Don’t Think They Know,” the second single off his upcoming album X (July 16). A shirtless Breezy rides through Compton and kicks it with kids in the neighborhood in the black-and-white clip.

“[I'm] bringing both worlds together and trying to uplift the poverty side of the community and show them where I’m from,” explained Chris.

The song features vocals from the late Aaliyah, who appears via a hologram. “Hope this new single inspires change and unity! Life is a Gift. I love doing what I do. All the little things count!” he tweeted.

The video is dedicated to those we’ve lost including Aaliyah and his friend Lil Frogg.

I am highly impressed with this.

Being a huge Aaliyah fan, Breezy has surpassed my expectations. The screen that shows clips from the “Try Again” video behind him dancing gave me goosebumps.

The message at the end dedicated to her is the cherry on top.
    RIP Baby Girl

@ForeverAaliyah, I HIGHLY AGREE WITH YOU. ITS GREAT TO SEE CHRIS BROWN DO MUSIC WITH A POSITIVE MESSAGE THAT WILL REACH OUT TO TODAY’S YOUTH, AND WILL ALSO HELP KEEP AALIYAH’S LEGACY ALIVE. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE ARE YOUNG ADULTS OUT THERE THAT WILL NEVER TRULY UNDERSTAND HOW AALIYAH CHANGED URBAN MUSIC AND HOW SHE HAS INSPIRED SOME OF THE BIGGEST ACTS OF TODAY.

IN MY OPINION, THIS SONG IS AMAZING, DOPE, FRESH, AND EXACTLY WHAT CHRIS BROWN NEEDED FOR HIS CAREER. WILL IT BE #1 ON THE HOT 100? NO. BUT IT WILL DEFINITELY GET A LOT OF GREAT PRESS AND HAVE THE NAYSAYERS AND HATERS BITING THEIR LIP. HOWEVER, I DO THINK THE VIDEO, COULD OF BEEN BETTER, & MAYBE A LITTLE BIT MORE COHESIVE TO HIS ‘FINE CHINA’ VIDEO. BUT CHRIS HAS A VERY CREATIVE MIND, AND I’M SURE THE PLANS HE HAS FOR ‘X’ WILL BE A BREAKTHROUGH FOR 2013.

Not here for it. That’s nice he payed homage to her but no. People shouldn’t make money off the dead. Sincerely, I think the gesture is nice but no. Aaliyah is not here to give HER approval. I wish they would just let her rest. We’d all appreciate some new Aaliyah but not if she’s not alive to give the okay. The song is good and it’s nice he payed homage. I respect that.

@Kemar (@S_C_Jr on Twitter), “people shouldn’t make money off the dead” Are you serious? lol Most music contains samples. Whether its using voices or production.

    [Reply]

    randy Reply:

@Neickha, lol exactly. people try to pay respect you complain. people dont pay respect you say theyre being disrespectful. all you do is complain.

and lets be real its not like chris brown is going to make more money with aliyah than he would have without her. he’s more popular than she ever was. it’s not like he needed to do this.

    [Reply]

    Mama Dee Reply:

@Kemar (@S_C_Jr on Twitter), You do know that Aaliyah used Marvin Gaye’s vocals & his image in her video for ‘Got to Give it Up’ don’t you? So was it disrespectful for her to ‘use the dead’ for her gain or does it only count when Chris does it? Biggie, Pac, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley and so on, and so on have had their music sampled and images used in music & videos since their passing. Ranting about it isn’t gonna change anything.

Face it, hundreds of artist have used samples & vocals from deceased artist! It’s been going on since the beginning of time. And as long as a deceased artist music is still selling and being used, the song writes and producers of the music are still getting paid long after the artist has passed. That’s how the music industry works, it’s a business, there’s ALWAYS money involved.

The song and video was a tasteful tribute to Aaliyah and her legacy. The most important part is that Aaliyah’s memory is being kept alive and her beautiful vocals are still being heard.

    [Reply]

    @cbDani Reply:

@london, What I was trying to say is, the blips of color are there on purpose. Clearly the concept was lost on you. The beginning of the video talks about innocent lives being lost and we should just love each other. Then you see the video is shot is gang and crime filled Compton. Then you see red(bloods), then blue(crips), then every color because we shouldn’t be separated by the other two. The video is anti gang violence. Towards the end we see that a friend of his most likely died due to gang violence which was the purpose for this video.

People on here are d*ck riders. This isn’t even close to as good as the drake & Aaliyah song! This song had no highs & lows, it went nowhere. I loved hearing Aaliyah’s voice again but if this is what they could of came up with they could of kept it. Like really! Timbo did a great job on JT’s album then he gives Chris this half ass descent song?! I liked the fact that he was dancing with Aaliyah & that he was on Brynhurst in LA where I used to live ( #StartedFromTheBottom) but that’s about it. Not really a fan of Chris but I like some of his music but this song is Underwhelming AF! So far his album sounds weak, I’m just waiting for that Nicki collabo…& imma need Chris to lay off the drugs, that skinny face shiz is not a good look, he had so much potential then hit Riri & it all went downhill from there. I want the Forever era Chris back, when it was more about music & less about his douche like antics!

@Royaleeee, You lost all credibility when you brought up Drake! You’re just a bitter ass Drake stan who doesn’t like Chris so you try discredit everything he does! Chris is consistent with his music & he keeps delivering hits! Chris is versatile, he can go from a old school sound like ‘Fine China’ & then come with a club banger like this! Chris doesn’t sound the same on EVERY track like Drakes fake ass! ‘They Don’t Know’ is FAR better than that ‘Started From the Bottom’ shit Drake released when he knows damn well he’s from the suburbs of Toronto.

FYI: This song SHITS on Drakes song with Aaliyah! EVERYONE with functioning ears says this song goes hard & is better than Drakes song! Chris’ song actually has a positive message & Chris honoring her memory in a classy manor. Chris isn’t using profanity, calling people ‘bitches’ & ‘n*ggas’ and throwing shade at other artist! Chris used Aaliyah’s vocals the right way!
