J. Cole’s ‘Born Sinner’ Rises to No. 1

J. Cole

J. Cole finally has the No. 1 album in the country. After competing with Kanye West and Wale, the Roc Nation rapper reigns at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Born Sinner.

In its third week on the chart, Cole’s sophomore set jumps 2-1 with 58,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. To date, the album has moved 439,000 copies surpassing the overall sales of Yeezus (431,000).

He thanked his fans for their support. “3 weeks later. #1 Album in the country. Born Sinner. Thank You,” tweeted Cole. “Follow your Heart. You won’t fail.”

The album debuted at No. 2 (297,000) behind Yeezus and then lost the No. 1 spot to Wale’s The Gifted a week ago. According to Billboard, albums rarely climb to No. 1 after their debut.

Last week’s chart-topper, Wale’s The Gifted, slides to No. 2 (50,000), while Yeezus drops 2-3 (39,000) in its third week.

@bgh, that’s yo opinion cause Kanye has talked bad about mbdtf and said nicki had the potential to be the number 2 rapper of all time behind em so what u say us merely an opinion she passed Kanye in sales and earned herself that number one spot whether u agree is not necessary

@what, is dumb what you just said. Yeezus is not music for everyone, is like heavy metal. I don’t like Yeezus and, if a professional music critic says its good, well congratz for Kanye but I still don’t like it.

@flawda, just because you like j. cole better than kanye, doesn’t mean that every critic who doesn’t agree with you is biased. I’m happy that J. cole got his time to shine and was able to beat a hip hop veteran, but I don’t have to bring down someone else in order to complement him.

This is the true showing of a good album, steadily climbing the charts and in its rightful spot, as oppose to a media hyped one, which claimed number 1 spot because of the gimmick behind it.

Congratulations!! The album is easily one of the best of 2013 (genre ignored). It’s rare for any genre today that I don’t have to skip tracks so I’m appreciative of the quality of Born Sinner. Proud Dreamvillain :)

Keep in mind, Kanye has done zero promotion for Yeezus and it is nearly gold after only three weeks. Congrats to Cole, but Ye still wins.

@LJ, Born Sinner is nearly gold after three weeks as well. Ye “won” because he debuted at #1, but his sales have dramatically dropped as they should have because the album was a hot ass mess with the exception of one song. LOL, you Kanye fanboys cannot give credit where it’s due.

@LJ, Thats because of his persona…..he’s Kanye West….thats promotion already.

Happy for J.Cole and Born Sinner is an amazing album. Its so refreshing to see new talent coming through. The comparison between Yeezus and Born Sinner is inevitable but kinda misplaced at the same time. These are 2 vastly different albums. Let me explain my postion, Yeezus is an experimental and sonically good album which challenges and intimidates a casual listener with its dark sound. Above all it challenges Hip Hop as a genre by saying Hip Hop can be something much bigger by some added Creativity. Artists like Kanye are a blessing to music in general. On the other hand Born Sinner is a more traditional Hip Hop album which pleases a lot of Hip Hop fans. We all win when artists pushes themselves to come up with these good quality albums. 2013 promises to be a very good year for music.

Congrats on the number one spot it was well deserved. J. Coles born sinner is not even comparable to yeezus. Kanyes whole album sounds auto tuned. J. Cole is lyrically talented, and in my opinion is the best rapper right now. All of his songs talk about things people can relate to. Good job baby! Your getting better and better and I’ve been supporting since day 1!!
