New Music: Dawn Richard – ‘Meteors’

Meteors

She won over fans and critics alike with her debut GoldenHeart, and now Dawn Richard blasts off with “Meteors,” the first single from her sophomore album BlackHeart. The former Dirty Money member explores a futuristic sound on the pulsing electro record.

“Your love is coming down like meteors,” sings Dawn as her voice echoes.

BlackHeart is the second release in Dawn’s Heart trilogy, which will conclude with RedemptionHeart.

@christactually i like that is isn’t like the other songs. It shows progression and also that each era she sounds differ t. Few artist can do that. Change each album and still create greatness! Dope!!!

That is not Dawn. Her face looks totally different. I mean whoever this girl is on the cover looks cute, but it cant be done. Im do confused right now.

@Hun?, I don’t understand how people like you can take a picture from a PHOTOSHOOT & assume Dawn’s got work done on her face. It’s one thing to see her in person & say that. This is a promo shot that’s been photoshopped, airbrushed, re-lighted & edited. Not by Dawn’s discretion; but by the photographer’s. So PLEASE. Let’s make logical statements. If you wanna see what she really looks like, try looking up videos of her in concert. Still brown. Still black facial features. Still a bad bitch. Stay mad.

@KeepingItFunky, are u lost???? where in @Hun?’s comment did she say Dawn got plastic surgery done?

nothing irritates me more than when people jump to stupid ass conclusions. Do u even know how to read? so confused.

Your comment is a prime example of how prevailant ignorance is.

@KeepingItFunky, +++ it takes a little more than photoshop to completely change someones face past the point of recognition btw….food for thought.

@minzzzzzz, I read the entire comment, “sweetie.” By the “Idk who this is but it can’t be Dawn, Her face looks different” comment, its CLEAR what the person is implying. Why can’t it be Dawn? Why would another random person be posing in front of the song title? Like, forreal. Don’t be an idiot. Only stupid people can’t read between lines & connect context clues. You learn that in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

Her face isn’t even “completely changed”. I saw the pic & knew it was Dawn before I even read the headline. Same chin, same cheekbones, same eyes. And honey, you must have NO clue what photoshop & professional editing can do. Check Beyonce’s controversial L’oreal campaign photo. Looks like two different women of a different race!

    @KeepingItFunky,

Dawn is an independent artist! That being said, she has creative control over everything that is done. If she paid out of her own pocket for this photoshoot, then i’m going to assume she directed the photographer towards the over the top, beyond recognition retouching. Oh what?? She doesn’t like the way she looks anymore? Her skin is darker than that (or use to be), and her nose was more chunky. This is not the same dawn we’ve known, it’s cleary a re-worked version of herself. Don’t blame the photographer, dawn has control.

@credits, Even if she DID decide to re-touch & photoshop the pic, what the hell does that matter if she’s still brown with black facial features in real life?! You ain’t never threw up a filter on your IG photos? Same damn thing but at a smaller scale. Doesn’t mean you “hate your blackness”. My point is: I’m tired of people taking photos from photoshoots and assuming she’s altered her actual face in surgery. She still looks the same. The end.

Why do people have to be so hateful & negative. The song sounds great & what Dawn does with music is very progressive & innovative. I love the song, she needs to take her music to the UK, they have a better perception of real art & music.

seems like the only thing everyone coming here is concerned about is the way she looks…

who cares if she had work done. it was her choice.

and im sick of everyone comparing her to brandy, kelly rowland, etc… just enjoy the music. dawn is way to talented for to be overlooked cause only thing yall see is brandy, kelly rowland, etc

as for the music, its not what i expected from the snippet/preview… maybe it’ll grow on me… still looking forward to this new album

Hey guys, I just want to let you know that 1) the sound is different b/c Dawn said that the sound for The BlackHeart is going to be TOTALLY different than that of GoldenHeart and 2) we have to stop saying that artists have bleached their skin and etc. Some times it is the lighting or the makeup. For example, India Arie was recently criticized for bleaching her skin; however, she wanted to be shown lighter by having a golden background, a gold dress, heavy lighting, and golden type of skin to basically use it as a metaphor for the album or the single “Cocoa Butter.” Let’s stop saying that these people have bleached their skin. Not every artist sells out and I definitely don’t think Dawn has because she is INDEPENDENT!
