New Music: Phoenix f/ R. Kelly – ‘Trying to Be Cool (Remix)’

Trying to Be Cool Remix

R. Kelly goes out of the box with his remix to Phoenix’s single “Trying to Be Cool.” The Pied Piper adds some R&B flavor to the alt-rock song, which appears on the French band’s album Bankrupt!

After performing together at Coachella in April, Kellz recorded his remix back in Chicago.

“A lot of people asked us why this happened and the thing I enjoyed the most, I think there’s not enough whys in today’s music world,” Phoenix’s Thomas Mars told BBC Radio 1. “And that’s sort of the ultimate why.”

Hear what happens when their worlds collide.

LOVE IT LOVE IT! OMG! IT IS GOOD.

ALL OF OUR GREATS ARE UNDER MAJOR ATTACK. IT BROKE MY HEART WHEN KELLY WAS PUT THROUGH A TRIAL FOR A CASE WHERE THE SUPPOSED VICTIM OR HER PARENTS, DIDNT EVEN COMPLAIN. THAT MUST BE A FIRST IN AMERICAN HISTORY.

IT ALSO BROKE MY HEART WHEN FANS OF R KELLY COULDN’T GET TICKETS ON THIS INTERNET WITHOUT GETTING RIPPED OFF FOR $500 FOR ONE TICKET! FINALLY I WENT TO THE BOX OFFICE AND WAS TOLD ABOUT THE FRAUD AND THAT THE TICKETS WERE ONLY $70. WHEN WE GOT INSIDE, A FEW GIRLS SAID THEY WERE SO DESPERATE THAT THEY PAID THE $500 FEE! BECAUSE OF INTERNET MESS THE MEDIUM SIZE THEATRE WAS ONLY HALF FULL! BUT RKELLY BEING THE GREAT SUPERSTAR THAT HE IS, PUT ON A FULL 2 HOUR AMAZING SHOW AS IF THE THEATER WAS FULL.

THEN THE NEXT TIME HE CAME TO TOWN, THE SHOW WAS ABRUPTLY CANCELLED ON THE VERY NIGHT OF THE SHOW. I DONT THINK IT WAS HIS FAULT AT ALL.

BLACK AMERICAN ENTERTAINERS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO STOP LEAVING THEIR LIFE AND CAREERS TOTALLY UP TO THE INTERNET. THE POWERS THAT BE ARE OBVIOUSLY WORKING TO DESTROY BLACK MUSIC OR BRING ABOUT AN EVOLUTION IN MUSIC. MEANING THAT MUSIC EVOLVES ABOUT EVERY 20 YEARS OR SO. AMERICA HAS GONE THROUGH THE AGE OF JAZZ IN THE 1940′S, ROCK AND ROLL/MOTOWN IN THE 1960S, DISCO IN THE 1970S, AND RAP/HIP HOP FOR A LONG WHILE NOW.

TO COUNTER THE ATTEMPTS TO CHANGE THE ERA BLACK ENTERTAINERS MUST TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR TICKET SALES (DONT DEPEND ON THE INTERNET – ANNOUNCE THAT YOUR TICKETS WILL ONLY BE SOLD AT THE BOX OFFICE), RECORD SALES (BRING BACK THE TRADITIIONAL BLACK RECORD STORES) ETC ETC

MAINLY THEY MUST NOT DEPEND ON TWITTER, FACEBOOKS BLOGS, OR INTERNET SALES TO TOUCH BASES WITH THEIR FANS. THEY MUST MEET AND GREET THE FANS WHENEVER POSSIBLE, STAY ON TV SHOWS AND CONSTANTLY WORK TO KEEP THEIR IMAGE GOOD. THAT’S THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL HAVE SOME CONTROL OVER THEIR OWN CAREERS. YOU HEAR STEVE HARVEY TELLING MOVIE GOERS TO CHECK THEIR TICKET STUBS. THAT IS A SMART MOVE.

@brian@Brian, when ypur the King of R&B that has produced millions of hits from every genre of music had multiple platinum albums and singles also wrote for the likes of Michael Jackson to Whitney Houston just to name a few notice this man is a musical genius and has nothing more to prove being he has been in the music industry for 25 years and still sells out concerts and writes for the likes of Usher, Trey songz and ronald isley and many legends. He has not fell off by far he’s like the Michael Jordan of R&B he writes and sings for the love of music not just for money. Respect the King Of R&B who has influenced many new R&B artist of today. King Kells R&B legend

@D. kellz, Uhm he isn’t the king of rnb anymore. Usher took his spot to be honest + since when he writes for Usher and Trey? LOL

    D. kellz Reply:

@Trey, let me enlighten you for a quick second you remember Trey Day album I am sure you do. The song called “Grub On” R. Kelly wrote and produced. And as for Usher he is the Prince of R&B let that be set straight right now not the King Of R&B that would be R. Kelly. Now when he passes the torch to Usher as the King then that will be ok I like Usher another great musician and singer that I support very much. Do you want me to name all the people R. Kelly produced and wrote for? I think these are just a few for you to know about I can keep going lmbao your talking to a die hard Kells fan who knows what he is talking about.

@D. kellz, He doesn’t write anymore for Trey Songz and never did for Usher… Usher is the King of R&B. Kellz was in the 90′s the greatest but Usher is far above him now and this isn’t my opinion it’s just the truth.

    D. kellz Reply:

@Jen, even though same girl is r. Kelly song he did write and produce that song which features usher. And his accolades and who has wrote and produced for and he still is the king and usher is the prince of R&B but this will and can be a debate that goes on forever but respect the man that has gone strong for 25 plus years and wrote major hits and the man is a genius in music.

    D. kellz Reply:

@Jen, and I said he produced not he is still producing for trey songz still correction.

@D. kellz, I BELIEVE I CAN FLY – ONLY A TRUE KING CAN WRITE A SONG LIKE THAT. R KELLY COULD BE A BIGGER STAR IF HE DECIDES TO SING WHAT WHITES WANT TO HEAR, BUT HE STAYS LOYAL TO HIS PEOPLE, JUST LIKE CIARA, CHRIS BROWN, ESTELLE, JOHN LEGEND, AND ALL THE GREATS, AND YOU HAVE TO LOVE THEM FOR THAT.
