Drake Enlists Jay Z, Lil Wayne for ‘Nothing Was the Same’

Drake and Jay Z

Drake is calling on a couple of his idols for Nothing Was the Same. Jay Z and Lil Wayne are both set to make appearances on the Canadian MC’s third album.

According to Rolling Stone, Drake has collaborated with the rap titans along with Scottish DJ/producer Hudson Mohawke.

“This album is about growth,” he tells the magazine. “When I play it for people, they ask, ‘Who’s that rapping?’ I’m like, ‘That’s me.’”

The follow-up to 2011’s Take Care has already spawned the inspirational anthem “Started From the Bottom” as well as the top 10 single “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”

Another highlight is the emotional “Connect.” “That one hits you in the heart,” says Drake. “It’s painful and beautiful at the same time.”

Nothing Was the Same is due Sept. 17.

I also expect more redundant features from nicki, trey songz, wiz khalifa, and every other artist that rappers are always making songs with. Just about everybody has worked with Jay now so this isnt surprising.

@troof, Clearly Im not the only person who says that. Thank you and goodnight.

@Speechless, I think you are. If you and anybody else who thinks Drake will make a track with wiz and trey you’re nuts and i question what you know about hip hop.

Wiz Khalifa is not even in the same league as Drake, Kendrick, Cole etc.

Same features on every album for every artist. It’s gotten so boring. Enough with the lil Wayne, Rick Ross and 2 chainz features. Can’t artist be creative anymore??

    Brad Reply:

@Brasko801, he was the first artist to feature The Weeknd. Take Care had Chantal Kreviazuk. One of Kendrick’s first features was on there too. Andre 3000 was on there too. You’re stupid as hell.

@Brasko801, those are the only ones that can make something. Anybody else is wack.

The only 2 people Jay-Z has done songs with this year are JT and K-Dot. Last year he only gave features to Kanye, Jeezy, and Ross. Hov definitely does not do “songs with everyone”, and I’ll be looking forward to this song. Lil Wayne is just given, we’ll probably never hear a Drake album without a Wayne feature. He also has songs with Jhene Aiko and Anthony Hamiliton on this album. The features aren’t cliche besides Wayne.

Predictable, but excited for his album. Rappers need to start thinking outside the box for features.

These comments are pathetic. Jhene Aiko, Sampha, James Fauntleroy, and Majid Jordan are all features on Drake tracks within the last four months…stop cherry-picking.

    Dots Reply:

@trillbred, all those features compliment Drake’s music. Him & Wayne are kinda always fire (Miss Me, HYFR)

    [Reply]

    Staysnatching Reply:

    @trillbred, Thank you!

These are not features you hear all the time, so people saying he needs to think outside the box maybe needs to re evalute and look at who drake has / has said he’s featuring

Hopefully he kills Drake again. But Drake has gotten much better and there’s no denying that. But all the above comments saying his features are bland, you’re stupid. He’s used Chantal Kreviazuk, The Weeknd (before he blew up completely), Andre 3000, Kendrick (before he blew up completely, Sampha, Majid Jordan, Fauntleroy, etc. If that isn’t variety I don’t know what is. It’s gonna be a good album. Hate all you want. And I’m not even a big Drake fan.

@what, your opinion is irrelevant bro. Hov made 30 off of Samsung even before the shit dropped. And shit almost platinum. It’s the best rap album so far this year. Deal with it. This ain’t the 90s anymore, stop daydream about 90s music clown. The shit has evolve.

I believe Drake is one of the best music artists in the music industry right now. I hear a lot of people saying that Drake always does the same features with the same people. Outside of Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled, and Birdman, Drake has done features with other music artists that are not even on the same record label with him, or not friends with him. Drake has done songs with Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Young Jeezy, Jamie Foxx, The Weeknd, Chantel Kreviazuk, Andre 3000, Bun B, J. Cole, and a few others. Drake is a very, smart person when it comes to working with other music artists. I believe Drake’s Nothing Was The Same album has the potential to be the best hip hop album of 2013.

    TRA Reply:

@#newrules#, I respect your opinion, I loved Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album, but that album is not bigger than Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. No hip hop album that has come out in 2013 has been better than Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid MAAD City album since Kendrick Lamar made Good Kid MAAD City album. Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album had great production, but the lyrics on that album is nowhere near better than the lyrics on Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid MAAD City album. Drake’s Nothing Was The Same album looks like it could be the best hip hop album since Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid MAAD City album.
