New Music: Eminem – ‘Berzerk’

Berzerk

Following his surprise album announcement on Sunday night, Eminem returns with his brand new single “Berzerk.” The hip-hop icon takes it back to his roots (“vintage Slim”) on the raucous track, produced by the legendary Rick Rubin.

“We gonna rock this house until we knock it down/ So turn the volume loud/ I said it’s mayhem till the A.M.,” raps Em over the old school hip-hop beat.

And in typical Slim Shady fashion, he takes aim at celebrities including Kevin Federline, Khloe Kardashian (“I fell asleep and woke up in that Monte Carlo with the ugly Kardashian/ Lamar, oh sorry, we done both set the bar low”), and Future (“I did enough codeine to knock Future into tomorrow”).

His album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, executive produced by Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin, will be released on November 5.

Crank up the volume ’cause Shady’s back.

@big v, I would not call this dope, but neither trash. He does almost the same every time. I’m done with his frenetic and comical raps. Of course, white teenagers will love him because they think he is “the only good rapper” Smh…

eminem is king of the ring. he kills it almost every time. he’s on the level of biggie, and pac. if not higher.

    Christian Reply:

@sadi, huge eminem fan since infinite but I have to agree with you. This track sounds like the Relapse album all over again. And to call this album the Marshall Mathers LP 2 ??? The first Marshall Mathers LP was a beast. An ultimate album of a generation where every track had meaning and I’m afraid with this track and that title it could be a huge miss. Him and royce da 5’9″ killed it doing bad meets evil: hell the sequel. To me, he will always be the greatest lyricist breathing, but with this track, he’s difficult to listen to, over done by music, and bearly audible with lyrics. I’m worried on this album.

@Christian, dude please read what you wrote, haven´t you read the lyrics?? this is the Slim Shady we know, critizcing the dumb rappers and the stars of our time, and they did a great work with Lighters and Fast Lane, don´t you see the incredible thang of having the King of rap and the prince of Pop together in lighters? Berzerk is the best song he could have made for this Album and with Survival they´re just incrdible, please erase what you say or stop saying you are an Em´s fan please

@Jack Bauer, i agree, awful stuff. He’s past it and trust me , i am / was the biggest fan of him from day one.. keep / kept giving him the benifit of the doubt hoping he would find his form… forcing myself to listen to his cruddy songs over again just so i could make myself like them but this is the final straw. He’s done for. This is a mess, cant hear / understand most of it …. no storyline / structure like good old eminem …. the rhymes are crap aswell . very sad.

Maybe still his biggest fan Reply:

@mark, True dude i’ve been his fan as well from infinite. I force myself to listen to this track and like it. Maybe other songs in the album will make some sense like talking to myself.

He’s done for, MMLP2 is going to be another flop judging by this and the call of duty one he released. This is a mess, cant hear / understand most of it …. no storyline / structure like good old eminem …. the rhymes are crap aswell . very sad.

I love this. I would say this is actually more along the lines of ‘classic eminem’ than anything he’s brought to the table in recent years. I don’t know how many people recall the original martial maters lp but this is very much along those lines

Way is this yeezus part 2? These rock influenced rap beats are no good, I did like that Kardashian diss lol, eminems first singles are not usually his biggest or best ones. Lets see what the next single is….

I find it funny how one of the big complaints about recovery was that there was no slim shady on it. Now he brings shady back and people are still complaining. Personally I think the song is pretty dope, catchy hook, funny shady verses and a cool rock sample. All in all very excited for this album I feel it will be a good mix of recovery Eminem and classic slim shady which will be a very dangerous combination.

    diyana Reply:

@JDawg, exactl damn, and remember when he said “nobody wants to see marshall no more, they want shady im chopped liver” people stay pressed no matter what he does like be thankful he’s making a comeback now no matter what. personally i love the track and im sure the album is gonna be gold

link is no longer working, searched it on youtube tho and i love it, love the beat and vibes, its like old school mixed with rock mixed with a current sound and very slim shady, this song feels like he had fun with it and sh*t, if its not your cup of tea then i guess just wait for the album which some do. i personally think its dope

  31. jamaar

This is ok but its a looong way off from from his earlier work that had people calling him one of the greatest of all time

    [Reply]

  32. Me Damnit!

It’s clear that some people will over hype & praise anything certain artist put out just because of who the artist is. This track is a mess. The beat is all over the place and you can’t understand a word he’s saying. I know the aggressive yelling he does is signature style and he is a dope lyricist but consistency is what earns you the title of the greatest rapper alive.

Em meeds to try again & scrap this mess. I had a feeling this was gonna be a disappointment.

Everybody that hates is looking for that radio hit. That’s how it is anymore. Ya want another beiber, gaga dick to rub on your faces. This is not meant for everybody to fall in love so the radio over plays it. It’s meant to gather the true ‘stans’ and show them the guy they wrote letters to us still here. Everybody be prepared Em has been working with the newest people that haven’t been trained mainstream.

@pete, I couldn’t agree with you more! For real em fans this is what we’ve been waiting for…slim shady is back!!! Honestly I love this track, yeah it takes afew listens to get into it but the same goes for most of his award winning “slim shady” songs example: my name is….besides in Eminem – be careful when you wish for em says “critics give it a 3 and 3 then years later they go back and re rate it and call the slim shady LP the greatest the Marshall Mathers was a clasic, the eminem show was fantastic but encore just didn’t have the caliber to match it, I guess enough time just ain’t passed yet, a couple more years and that shit will be illmatic

    [Reply]

  42. Unsound

Hell yeah! This song fuckin rocks. I’m not sayin just because this song is already No.1, it’s sick. You don’t know what HipHop is. You just run around and say MMLP this MMLP that. It’s been 13 years since MMLP. The flow, lyricism, metaphors, word play… not comparable – for better. You might have been able to rap along with Stan or The Real Slim Shady… But give it a try and see if you can catch up with his flow now. It’s all about style, lyricism, flow and true HipHop. If you think the beat is annoying and he’s yelling all through the song, why don’t you go and listen to them pop/ radio tunes? If you can’t relate to this song and you think it’s yet another song like those off Relapse, you’re dead wrong. Eminem G.O.A.T.
