Janelle Monáe Electrifies on ‘Today’ Show

Janelle Monáe

New York City got a wake-up call from Janelle Monáe, who brought her magnetic energy to the “Today” Concert Series on Thursday. The spunky singer delivered an electrifying performance of her single “Dance Apocalyptic” in Rockefeller Plaza as her fans danced and sang along.

“I am the electric lady and I am your morning coffee,” said Janelle before bursting into her funky jam.

Her album The Electric Lady is expected to sell 45-50,000 copies in its first week. “I wanted to focus on creating a new breed, a new 21st century woman someone who is not defined by her skin color or hair texture but by what she does for the community, how she goes into the community and nurtures the next generation,” she said.

@d, So basically she needs to conform and look like every other bitch or the planet or at least do what you want her to do? LMFAO, bitch please!

I’m not generally a person to get all “hype” over first week sales, as many stans use those for shits and giggles on social media. HOWEVER, really? This album is phenomenal and I can’t help but feel like she deserved so much more. Hopefully they will pick up, or at least remain consistent, and more people will become exposed to this body of work.

@Morgan, I’m hoping the same thing. Maybe with this tour…she’ll be able to get some more sales and what not. I would hate to see her pulling a Cici move and end up on Groupon.com (no shade intended tho, LOL)

@Morgan, I disagree. 45-50K is actually a lot more than I thought she would sell. It will at least land her inside the top 10 I think which is amazing. Her first album didn’t even move 20K in its first week I think so this is definitely an improvement. I wish

I really hope it’s not that time of the month, because that all white ensemble would be completely ruined.
