Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri Announce ‘Merger’

Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri

Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri have a history of hits together, and now the dynamic duo is taking their business relationship to the next level. The So So Def mogul has signed on to become Mariah’s manager.

In a press release, Mariah’s reps described the relationship as a “merger.” JD will act as the pop diva’s manager, according to a congratulatory note on JD’s DJ management site SKAM Artist.

“A multi-talented artist of Mariah’s caliber should be doing everything imaginable. I’m sure others have said this but not the way I intend to do it. For me, it’s about the execution,” said JD, who produced hits including “We Belong Together” and “Always Be My Baby.”

Mariah added, “We have a bond that surpasses music. I am super excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come to fruition.”

JD received congratulatory messages from his friends including Da Brat and Bow Wow. “Congrats to my pops @jermainedupri on taking on that big step w/ managing the legendary @MariahCarey,” tweeted Bow.

Mariah was previously managed by Jennifer Lopez’s current manager Benny Medina as well as “American Idol’s” Randy Jackson.

The iconic singer has been working on a new album, which has already spawned the Miguel-assisted hit “#Beautiful.” Mariah’s publicist, Cindi Berger, teased an upcoming announcement.

“I’ve never seen Mariah so passionate about what she will be revealing to her fans very, very soon,” said Berger.

The true empress goddess queen of music will reign.

At first, I wasn’t enthused but I believe JD will push Mariah back to prominence just like he did with Emancipation.

Given the current industry climate with sales, I don’t think it’s fair to expect blockbuster numbers, but I think the record will do fairly well. I just want good music and I know Mariah will deliver.

    COME ON, NEW ERA!

Huge Mariah fan but this is really bad decision. No offense to JD but he can’t even manage his own career at this point. More importantly, Mariah needs a manager who has some serious clout. JD will not be able to get her opportunities that she already doesn’t have. I don’t see JD getting her prime performance opportunities on major awards shows or on shows like The Voice. Plus, he does not challenge her to create music that her fans enjoy. It’s cool that Mariah loves to collaborate with rappers and create hip-hop songs but she also needs to create beautiful, soulful ballads that made everyone fall in love with her. I constantly see photos of her in the studio with JD and Hit-Boy, Mill Will, Nas, etc. but what about Babyface, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Diane Warren. She didn’t become the best selling female artist of all time by creating songs like “Triumphant”. Overall, I think both musically and from a marketing standpoint JD as her manager is a terrible idea.
