Video: Janelle Monáe f/ Miguel – ‘PrimeTime’

Miguel and Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe loves in the future in the emotion picture for “PrimeTime,” her sultry collaboration with Miguel. The singers play lovers in the dark and stylized video, which is set in a Blade Runner-like world.

“‘PrimeTime’ is a love story based on the early adventures of Cindi Mayweather (Janelle Monáe) and her first love Joey Vice (Miguel),” said Janelle of the Alan Ferguson-directed clip. “The Emotion Picture gives a glimpse at Cindi’s humble beginnings as a ‘cyber-server’ at the Electric Sheep nightclub, a syn bar serving high-class ‘show droids’ to the rich and lonely in a dangerous section of Metropolis known as Slop City.”

She continued, “Incidentally, the innovative cybersoul music played at the club directly impacted Cindi, and she began singing and performing her own innovative compositions a short time after quitting this assignment. In addition, Cindi became determined to change the public perception of what an electric lady could be, dream and aspire to after working in the dismal conditions at the club.”

The song is taken from Janelle’s latest album The Electric Lady, which debuted at No. 5 last month.

This is so beautiful. “Dorothy Dandridge Eyes” should be the next single. That’s a really good collaboration.

I don’t want the future to look or be like that. Electric bodies and human robots and electric everything. We aren’t robots and I don’t know why these images keep coming up in videos lately. See Chris Brown Love More

@chris, the “futuristic” concept has been conveyed like that since the 90′s. they thought we’d have flying cars and terminators by the year 2000
