Tyler, the Creator Blasts will.i.am for ‘Plotting His Downfall’

Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, the Creator has no love for will.i.am. The Odd Future leader is putting the Black Eyed Peas frontman on blast for comments he made about the future of his career.

The two shared a conversation during Kanye West’s “Yeezus Tour” at the Staples Center in L.A. last night. According to Tyler, will told him that 10 years from now, he will compromise his art for money.

“I MADE A BET WITH WILL I AM FOR A MILLION BUCKS THAT I WILL BE MAKING MONEY 10 YEARS FROM NOW DOING WHAT I LOVE AND NOT WHAT MAKES THE MOST,” tweeted Tyler. “NIGGA SAID ‘THEN YOU MAKE A DECISION ON WHAT TO DO TO SURVIVE’ NO NIGGA THATS NOT HOW IT IS FOR EVERYONE. IM NOT GONNA MAKE MUSIC I HATE.”

He slammed the BEP hitmaker for selling out. “HES SO TALENTED BUT HES MAKING BUTT SHIT TO MAKE BREAD, USE THE CREATIVITY FOR SOMETHING TIGHT MAN,” said Tyler. “I CANT BELIEVE THIS NIGGA WAS PLOTTING ON MY FUCKING DOWNFALL CAUSE HE MAKES SHIT HE HATES AND DOESNT LIKE HIMSELF. WILL I AM IS A MARK.”

But he didn’t let that discourage him. “THIS NIGGA REALLY WALKED UP TO ME TELLING ME ABOUT MYSELF 10 YEARS FROM NOW NIGGA FUCK YOU NOW IMA GO OUT OF MY WAY TO PROVE YOU WRONG,” he said. “IMA STAY POSITIVE AND FOCUSED LIKE I HAVE BEEN SO I CAN CONTINUE TO HAVE A TENNIS COURT IN MY BACKYARD EAT A DICK.”

He did, however, admit that the first hip-hop album he liked was the Black Eyed Peas’ 1998 debut Behind the Front.

I don’t really care for this man, but he basically said what I wanted to Will.I.Am for a while now…he is such a sell-out and then wants to try to sue Pharrell

    Tevin Reply:

@2bad2bme, He’s a “sell out” because he chooses to explore different types of music besides hip-hop and rap? People called Whitney Houston a ‘sell-out’ when she sang a few pop songs even though her voice was soulful. Some thought MJ was the same when he experimented with rock (i.e. Dirty Diana, Another Part of Me).

@Tevin, He’s a sell out because the songs he makes are money making machines, not songs that he went in with in and made with full effort and a vision.
I’d be different he went and made pop music and it didn’t sound like all the other over saturated techno EDM we hear all over the radio. he make generic pop.

    [Reply]

    Ay Reply:

@Tevin, he only makes what is popular at a certain point in time. He is a major sell out, and he steals shit to get famous, like “Bang Bang” which was just a rip-off of a house song called “Epic” by Sandro Silva. He music is garbage and will not last, Michael and Whitney BROKE trends, will.i.am just follows them blindly.

@ Tevin. He’s a sell out because hes make horrible music now. “Shawty go hard/Statue” wack raps, im fine with experimenting if you’re making good music…

Listen to two old Black Eyed Peas songs called BEP Empire and Brining it Back, where Will.I.Am was talking about hip hop artists selling out to the masses and making gimmicky pop music. THEN try and defend him not selling out. “Money is a drug, and MC’s is on it.”

Irony, thy name is Black Eyed Peas. Or hypocrisy, one of the two.

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT. FLOP.I.AM IS FINALLY BEING EXPOSED. and tbh he really should just stop this mess. His Dance shit only worked once and that was on The E.N.D. Scream & Shout was only a hit because of Britney, what other top 10 songs does he have since he started doing electro that are either his or he produced?? Oh that’s right lol. None. I’m still in shock Gaga actually lowered herself to work with him on ARTPOP when she could work with any producer in the world she pleases too. Ok I’m done

Will you need to get it together. You wanna keep producing? Go call Fergie. Make Dutchess part 2 happen

Man.. I hate people who call them sell-outs… They wouldn’t have the necessity of “selling-out” if you people would support their old music. Nobody cared about their group until they came with the pop sound. Tyler can keep his underground and noncommercial sound but he won’t succeed and he most be prepared to acquire another job cuz this music business isn’t gonna give him good incomes. Well, if he is looking for good incomes.

Besides, y’all forgetting being a musician is a JOB, so what pays the best its the best. That’s called business. Of course, they most have ethic but America isn’t the place for ethic as far as I know, don’t you think?

@Andy, if you’re willing to completely give up on the sound you want to do for money, than you don’t have a true love for the art.
there are starving artist out here(in every field) who are willing to keep doing what they do, even if it means making less money.
the difference with Will.I.Am though is that even if he never sold out he still would be living good.
this isn’t a thing aboutn “Getting what yoou need to live”. when artist get rich, they get greedy. when they get greedy they spend much more money than they should. and when then they over spend they need to earn more money to support their lavish lifestyles. so they “sell out”
There are plenty of old school rappers who still make music today and are living good without selling out.(Wu-Tang Clan)
there are plenty of mainstream rappers who continue making hits and sell recirds without selling out(Jay, Kanye, Drake, Kendrick)

    Andy Reply:

@what, but you shouldn’t call them SELL-OUTS. You either are in art or business. If they will be that lovely of the art, they wouldn’t sell their records.

The ones that are “starving” (literally or figuratively) and keep doing music are IDIOTS. Sorry for being rude, but its true. If you are doing music just for “love of the art” then have another job ‘cuz that’s not real business, is a hobby.

Even if you think they are not “sell-outs” (which is a term that I don’t use neither like but its necessary for understanding my point), they are because they study the market (at least the ones that can) and see whats hot in here, they have marketing strategies (just like every business). I recall Jay-Z made a deal with Samsung to sell 1M copies of his album. Kanye wanted to do something… “artistically” so failed. Artists like them still sell high because they already have big fanbases to support whatever sh!t they drop.

You can still have “love for the art” and be successful, tho, but is not common. Also, not all “sell-outs” are successful. Ugh… I hate that word.

@Andy, calling people idiots for doing what they love is harsh
I’m a visual artist, and rather be poor doing what I love and how I want to do it the doing something I dont want to do and being bored and unhappy doing it. I’ll go broke before i get a desk job.
if your doing something you dont want to do for money, fine. But you still sold out. You gave up what you believed in to let your talent rot.
    and Yeezus was very successful

    [Reply]

    Andy Reply:

@what, yes, it was harsh. I see artists in the streets (when I travel other countries) that have signs where say: “give me money so I can buy a real guitar/drums/etc.”

But that’s why I said you should have a real job. It’s okay to do painting or rapping but if that is not gonna pay the bills you better do something about it. And don’t say “I’ll go broke before I get a desk job” ‘cuz when you start starving you are gonna eat your words.

You keeping repeating that word and I keep repeating is not true. Most rappers (old or new) have added mainstream sounds to sell more. Jay-Z, Kanye, Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne (of course), the list goes on. Yeezus was… mmm sucessful, yes. But for a Kanye album people expect bigger numbers.

I must point out that what you said earlier is so true. People gain money and start wasting it with materialistic things and when they aren’t earning as much, they do everything to keep their flashy lifestyles.

What will.i.am said to Tyler was very disrespectful and shows how insecurity he must feel with himself. My problem is people who call other artist “sell-outs.” There is no sell-outs, they decided to make music a business instead of a hobby/passion. Most artists prefer that and try to “keep it real” but they realize they can’t.

It’s difficult to communicate when you’re angry. Also, don’t write while you are angry, you come off as illiterate. Tyler lose the N-word, you can bet your bibby that in ten years the N-word will be passe in music. will.i.am was definitely very disrespectful to you. I am reminded what Tupac said about courage on his song the Untouchables. “People get courageous when they get behind a Mike. I bet will.i am had about 10 bodyguards around him. Lastly, the name will.i is so egocentric and narcissistic, Tyler, and no one else should be surprise when a person who names himself i says.
