Azealia Banks Blames Pharrell for Poor Performance of ‘ATM Jam’

Azealia Banks and Pharrell

Azealia Banks is picking a new fight, this time with Pharrell. The feisty rapper is blaming The Neptunes producer for the poor performance of her latest single “ATM Jam.”

She took to Twitter to vent her frustrations. “The reason ATM jam did poorly is because pharell changed his mind about wanting to be associated with me after he had his lite skin comeback,” tweeted Azealia.

While Pharrell produced and is featured on the club banger, he did not appear in the music video and didn’t promote the song.

Her tirade of tweets continued, “Lite skin niggas are funny. But fuck it what’s new? Azealia banks having to scrape claw and fight for what she wants. This is normal for me now.”

She tried to hold her tongue, but decided to let the world know. “The minute I feel like I should give a fuck and stop talking shit the good lord reminds me that no one else gives a fuck and neither shuld I,” she said. “If no one gives a fuck? Why should I?”

She has decided to remove the song from her upcoming debut Broke With Expensive Taste.

After she’s done being an artist, the outspoken MC plans to use her ideas to better the music business. “Once I’m done w my contract with universal somebody better give me an office. I have so many big ideas about music industry infrastructure,” she said. “I just want to fix it all and smile smugly at my superiors from behind my glasses and coffee mug.”

@Bobby, man I can believe you still eat her shitty behavior. She needs to sit the fck down and work something that doesn’t sound the same.

Actually is to late, nobody wants her. Universal is also very impatient for her contract to end, she must be wasting all their money.

I can understand the frustration resulting from a track she worked on not doing well, but her claim seems really immature and she’s flat out wrong to call out an industry veteran like that. Especially one like Pharrell who nabbed the top 2 songs of the summer. Even if that is how she felt, she should’ve kept that to herself. Lady Gaga was right – homegirl has a really bad attitude.

She just keeps digging herself deeper and deeper in the hole. The reason I don’t even give her music a chance is because of her nasty attitude since day 1. U may be a bitch azealia, but karma’s a bigger one!

say what you like, but its VERY refreshing to see an artist that is human and actually speaks her mind. instead of talking in riddles and dissing people indirectly like pusha t or reading off a cue card like every female pop singer

being honest is a big no in this industry, because of this she will always fail.

unfortunely, because no one can rap like her.

    [Reply]

    Chloé Magnolia Reply:

You can be honest without being obnoxious and disrespectful.

You and I both know that Pharrell is not responsible for the poor reception of ATM Jam.
She’s indirectly discrediting her capability by implying that someone else was the determining factor for her single’s failure. She’s the headliner, she’s supposed to give the people what they want. It’s her career, her responsibility and ultimately her job to fix when the sailing isn’t smooth.

She should know better than this. It’s wild annoying to always hear her blame everybody but herself. Nobody owes her anything.

The reason why “ATM Jam” didn’t do well is because it was a BAD SONG. It was messy and all over the place. If I was Pharrell I wouldn’t want anything to do with it either!

  17. JHP

Oh wow, this girl needs to just go away. Her single tanked because nobody is checking for her music. I can’t even name a song she’s notable for, the only thing I know her for is talking trash about everybody. This skin tone debate had nothing to do with anything and she continues to show her ignorance by bringing it up. Pharell isn’t even light-skinned, he’s brown skinned. She really wonders why she can’t get any support from anyone, it’s because she’s a b*tch and continues to pick fights with and talk trash about EVERYONE in the industry over the pettiest stuff. Her music isn’t good enough to justify how ridiculously large her ego is. She acts like she’s a veteran in the game, and not a rookie, and expects all these hand outs. Really talented artists don’t need Pharell to be in their videos and promote their singles to have success. Nicki didn’t, Drake didn’t, Cole didn’t, Kendrick didn’t. She’s just not that hot, she needs to get over it. She has no one to blame but herself.

Yo this chick is cooked. Its your song not pharrells which means you and your label need to work the single. if its hot people would catch on to it. Pharrell isnt the reason the song isnt doing shit on the charts thats on you the artist. Its so easy to point the finger but its your career that needs help not pharrells hes set for the rest of his life he has countless #1′s on billboard but what about u???

Azealia Banks has already killed her own music career before it even got started. Azealia Banks needs to realize that in order to be successful in the music industry, she needs to stop disrespecting other music artists just because things don’t always go her way. Azealia Banks needs to learn from Kanye West. Before Kanye West showed the whole entire world how big his ego truly was, Kanye West had to prove himself as a rapper and a music artist. Before Kanye West won 21 Grammy Awards, made 5 platinum selling albums and became one of the best music artists of his generation, Kanye West was getting turned down by several record labels and couldn’t get a record deal until he got a record deal with Roc-A-Fella Records. Kanye West was able to convince people that he can put out great music and began to work with other great music artists like Pharrell, Jay-Z, Nas, Drake, T.I., Janet Jackson, Common, and others. Until Azealia Banks learns how to stop attacking her peers, she will never get the respect she wants.

    [Reply]

    Oh Reply:

@TRA, SO WHAT WHO CARES!! She doesn’t need industry respect, as long as she has fans

    [Reply]

    The Truth Reply:

    @Oh,

What fans exactly are you referring to?

She hasn’t sold any music on iTunes. She can’t even sell a show out in London; arguably her “biggest” market.

She has played festivals and that is pretty much it. People go to festivals to see all of the artists you fool.

    [Reply]

    King Fiercd Reply:

    @TRA, I doubt Kanye has 21 Grammy’s.
    /-)

    [Reply]

    TRA Reply:

@King Fiercd, Kanye West has won 21 Grammy Awards, look at Kanye West’s history of award wins on his catalog or discography at Wikipedia.

    [Reply]

    mtxx Reply:

@TRA, The Kanye comparison was flawless! This is exactly what Azealia needs to realize, she doesn’t have a stable career and her fanbase is getting shorter by the minute. What’s worse is she doesn’t put out enough music to feed the fans and, when she does, it is a disappointment like ATM JAM. She thinks she is entitled to some sort of instant success when, in reality, she needs to work way harder. I like her early music and I think she is a good rapper and a good lyricist but she needs to tone down on the attitude and boost up her music.
