Beyoncé’s First Singles Revealed

Beyoncé

Beyoncé is making her own rules. Instead of putting out singles before her album, the pop icon will release the first two singles to radio next week. So just which ones will they be?

According to Billboard, the Pharrell-produced “Blow” will hit Top 40, while the Jay-Z-assisted “Drunk in Love” will go to urban radio.

“XO,” penned by Ryan Tedder and The-Dream, will follow in 2014 as the second single at Top 40. The Terry Richardson-directed video was shot at Coney Island over the summer.

Radio programmers have already started playing Bey’s fifth album in its entirety after its iTunes exclusive release on Friday.

Streaming services including Spotify and Rdio will have access to BEYONCÉ next week and physical copies will arrive in time for the holidays.

The album is already on track to debut at No. 1 with projected sales of over 200,000 in its first three days.

“Blow”

“Drunk in Love” feat. Jay Z

“XO”

Flawless should been her single too or mine with drake

    [Reply]

    JHP Reply:

@Ashy, I would’ve liked Mine as a single, but I don’t think a 6 minute song would go over well on the radio, and I don’t really see what they could do to shorten it that wouldn’t sound awkward.

I love B, but she can’t pick singles to save her life. How on earth can you pick Blow over XO or Pretty Hurts?

    [Reply]

    VTae Reply:

@mya, It’s called…..because it sounds good that doesnt mean it should be a single. Bye. The entire album slays but she made the right choice with singles.

    mya Reply:

@VTae, You’re one of the stans that believes she does everything right. I’m sure thought Run The World was the right choice too. The album slays, but Blow is a flop in the making.

    [Reply]

    Ice Reply:

@mya, That’s just your opinion, the general consensus is Blow is possibly the best song on the album. Pharrell does no wrong.

And Run The World was horrible compared to anything on this album.

    Sushi Reply:

@mya, This album is a grown up album. It’s a transition from her usual “I’m better off without you, so I’m gonna dance” to “I’m a Grown Woman” that’s why Grown Woman wasn’t included in the self-titled album. That was the theme I’m getting from the album.

    [Reply]

    FormerlyFromTokyo Reply:

@mya, I know what you mean, because ‘Pretty Hurts’ was made to be a single! :( It definitely should have been the first, aside from the lyrics, it has one of the best videos.

‘Blow’ is one of my favorite songs on the album, but the video MADE that song for me, so maybe that’ll be what can put the song over, because I agree that it doesn’t really sound like a single. I could see ‘XO’ as a single as well; it has a radio-friendly, uplifting sound. If they edited down ‘Mine’ I could definitely see that being a single as well.

    [Reply]

    Jose Reply:

@mya, “Blow” is an uptempo song. Uptempo songs are always going to be the first single with few exceptions. “Pretty Hurts” will probably be the 3rd top 40 single. “XO” will be released to top 40 next year before the summer.

I think all this arguing about the “right” or “wrong” single is pretty useless. Beyonce has made it clear that she wanted to present an entire body of work for consumption and critique, vs. 1-2 tracks at a time. She was bored with the typical release format.

That being said, once Spotify/Rdio get their hands on it, and iTunes allows individual tracks to be downloaded, people will be able to pick and choose what they like. But B wanted to do the initial release her way, and she did.

No way. I’ve not watched the videos and I don’t intend to. With me, it’s about the music, not the sex draw. I was never a huge Beyonce fan and I doubt I ever will be with what I’ve seen here and the little bit I watched on Entertainment Tonight. I just don’t get why artists use the sex draw for their music. It’s like they’re trying to outdo each other to see who can be more disgusting. What a shame.

    @anita,

Grow the hell up. She’s a grown woman, sex is how she likes to communicate with her husband and she expresses her sexuality freely. She’s not asking some random to come fuck and suck her every morsel of her being, she’s talking about making sweet love. If you can name any huge artists in the history of the music industry that dont touch on this topic I’ll give you a cookie.

some of you are really getting on my nerves with trying to pit women against women. fact is beyonce is a bad bitch, you don’t have to like her or her music but you can’t deny talent period. but if you don’t like her, then get off her 5 posts from today. why go on each trying to destroy the day for the fans that are excited for the new music? we have been waiting for 2 1/2 years, damn. Rihanna bad, gaga bad, katy bad & they all have their own lanes. the one thing they have in common is their respect for beyonce, she has spent the last 17 years in the industry. katy & gaga were both tweeting EARLY this morning about the new music along w/ jordin sparks, diddy, k michelle, anita baker, Kerry Washington, imagine dragons. like it or not, to this newer generation of artists & her legions of fans … she is iconic. she is legendary. she is beyonce!

Aaliyah will ALWAYS be Queen. She could resurrect today and still be the shit. Stop kissing Beyonce’s anus. Even she said Aaliyah was better than her. Beyonce is a great entertainer but no Queen. She’s probably laughing at you fools. And probably had people but her album from before to cheat like Jay did w/ MCHG! Bee can’t act, her voice has no flow, or falsetto, or versatility, like Aaliyah. She doesn’t make shit for you to relate or connect to and it’s just feel good in the moment music, nothing timeless. Aaliyah could sing, dance, act. Her music was honest, real, and timeless. She’s didn’t write it but it came from the heart. That’s what REAL artists do! Get personal and make songs that have meaning to their fans. She was a triple threat. There’s no one else now doing anything great so y’all give her that measly “Queen” title. She makes the same old songs about being in love w/ a camel!!!! She has people that write for her, steal dance moves like MJ in remember the time, costumes like Tina turner, and themes like that Queen shit! She’s is everything but original. She’s knows for being a thief, but gets away w/ it for being that black girl. Just a farce and a gimmick. She’s a great artist but will never be a Queen. And if y’all think she is the, female part of the industry has clearly fallen off like giving thot rihanna an icon award! STFU!!! There are many artists coming up like jhene aiko better than her or Anita baker, Mariah, Whitney, Mary j. She ain’t no mother fuckin Queen. Y’all accept bs. The song w/ drake was the nicest including jealousy. But how do you go from independent woman to my hubby came on me and deep throat him. If it were rihanna she’s be a whore so stop being bias!!! She’s trying to hard cause she knows she ain’t that special. Bday and dangerously in love were great 4 was alright but now she’s meh and worships her husband like God! I downloaded like 6 songs from this but this album ain’t a hot. Get real and be honest. She’s going to far. Partition and blow are like cockiness. 5 yr olds will be singing this. Come on y’all. King of stealing & faking, shit. She is not authentic. Stop kissing her ass, she doesn’t care about you gullible idiots making her rich. You’ll take anything, won’t you? And needs to use others artists like Drake to sell an album. She could make a song about shitting in Blue’s breakfast and it’ll be a hit. Shut up. The female part of the industry has fell off. If Rihanna made this or Miley, shade would be coming from all across the globe, but beyonce makes it and she’s God. You’re a hypocrite.

@Daniella, Comparing aaliyah to beyonce is like comparing 2pac to Jay, its pointless because both (aaliyah & pac) are deceased so we’ll never know how they’d still be impacting the game, beyonce & jay are here and they’re doing it bigger than they did while they were living but still its not fair on either party.#soshutup

I think this album will do great in album sales. On singles i think it will do ok. I love the fact that she stepped up on the video’s. I love them all. Great job on that part. But not all of the music on the album are great. I want her to make an album full of music that are timeless. Over the years beyonce became more of an album sales artist. There’s were the money’s at, world tours and album sales. Either way the Queen is always on top.

Don’t really matter what single she puts out all her songs will take over the radio. She did a smart move putting a video for each song that way radio have an “excuse” to play every song as technically they are all singles. The album in my opinion is wack, like future said about Drakes it don’t catch you just a bunch of hits. An album should tell a story and show growth in the artist of the period of recording, if that makes sense.
