From the release of his seventh album M.O. to his role on BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” Nelly has had a busy year. The St. Louis rapper, who won Single of the Year at the American Music Awards for his collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, was in a celebratory mood while hosting Tostitos Pre-Fiesta Bowl Party at Cabo Cantina on L.A.’s Sunset Strip.
As guests snacked on Tostitos Fajita-flavored Scoops!, Nelly came to the defense of his friend Miley Cyrus, who he collaborated with on “4×4” off her album Bangerz.
“I love Miley, that’s like a little sister,” he told Rap-Up TV. “I think she’s getting a chance to be herself and find herself. I think sometimes in this business we don’t get the same opportunities as the average person gets to find themselves and [be] allowed to make certain mistakes without being judged.”
He looked back on the past year in music and shared some of his favorite albums. “Drake’s album was dope,” said Nelly, who also singled out Jay Z’s Magna Carta…Holy Grail.
With Christmas around the corner, how does he plan to spend the holidays? “I just want to be home,” said Nelly. “I love having family come over for the holidays. It’s just getting them to leave that’s the problem. Every time I wake up, there’s somebody still there.”
In 2014, look for Nelly in the upcoming drama Reach Me starring Sylvester Stallone plus new music. “We want to get right back into doing another album as soon as possible,” he said.
