Beyoncé Breaks iTunes Record with 828,773 Albums Sold in Three Days

Beyoncé

Bow down to Beyoncé. The pop superstar has shattered an iTunes record with her surprise album, which sold a staggering 828,773 copies in its first three days.

According to a press release from Apple, BEYONCÉ has become the fastest-selling album ever on the iTunes Store worldwide.

The fifth solo project from Beyoncé also broke the U.S. first-week album sales record with 617,213 sold and hit No. 1 in 104 countries. It bests the previous one-week iTunes record held by Taylor Swift’s Red, which sold 465,000 copies in October 2012.

If that wasn’t enough, Queen Bey earns the largest sales week of 2013 for a woman.

BEYONCÉ will easily debut at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200 when the chart is released on Wednesday. Sales are tracked Monday through Sunday.

The heavily-guarded album launched on iTunes on Friday featuring 14 new songs and 17 videos. Physical copies are in production and will arrive in time for Christmas.

AMAZING NUMEBERS!! I feel like she deserves this success.

Is it true what i heard? Is she releasing XO instead of Drunk in Love and Blow as first single?

    [Reply]

    Satisfied Reply:

@Respect, kinda true. She’s releasing XO to Pop radio & Drunk in Love to Urban. So she basically changed the Pop single, which I knew was gonna happen after she performed it here Friday. Plus she’s been gushing about that song since Rio – it’s obviously her fav.

@Satisfied, perfect thats what i was hoping, blow is nice but def not single material. Drunk and XO shud do well.

@meme, Blow by far is my favorite song on the album & I was very excited to find out it was gonna be the first single. BUT I’ve been rooting for XO since first mention of it. You can somehow tell it means a great deal to her, which makes it more enjoyable.

@Satisfied, Thank you for the info. I still feel like Blow is single material and it should be released. Blows music video is one of the best

    [Reply]

    Satisfied Reply:

@Respect, if not THE best. My guess is they will be swapped, making Blow the 2nd single, which I think would work well. I think Pretty Hurts is a heavy contender for 2nd as well, as it is a big fan favorite. We’ll c…

@Respect, blow is too long and have too many hooks. Its not radio format at all. the music video is great but unfortunately videos cant play over the radio.

    [Reply]

    Satisfied Reply:

@meme, Blow by itself isn’t long. I imagine Cherry wouldn’t be included not only because it’s another song, but because of the strong, sexual explicity of the video.

Remember, Rocket has a shortened, radio-friendly version too so it’s possible.

    [Reply]

    meme Reply:

@Satisfied, i was thinkin maybe to cut the cherry part (which i think is the best part). But even then the song still has too many hooks. I dont even kno what is the chorus. I just dont see it performin well on radio. XO and DIL are the best for radio….Then Parition and Mine (shorten)

    FormerlyFromTokyo Reply:

@Respect, I agree that ‘Blow’ is one of the best vids. It also doesn’t sound like a single to me either, though it’s one of my favorites.

I still think ‘Pretty Hurts’ should be a single, even if only for the video.

I couldn’t get into ‘Rocket’ even though I respect it’s a true R&B sound – I feel like true R&B is not popular now. People are too concerned with having something to pop their booties to, which is part of why some people are going on about the songs not being this or that. They’ve been conditioned to having those dance-friendly, throwaway pop tunes that they can’t enjoy the songs for what they are.

    John John Reply:

    @Usher, Hello.

JK. I’ve always been fairly indifferent to Bey. I have enjoyed some of her big singles, and 4 and B’Day are at least decent. But BEYONCE is the best pop album in quite some time. It’s meticulously and imaginatively executed. It deserves all its success. Maybe this will inspire the other pop divas to step up their game.

Jesus Christ, if she would’ve dropped the album on Monday, it would have probably did 1.5 million the first week. The fact that she did this out the blue, with no promotion, and no physical copies in stores is amazing. She deserves it too, because it is a fantastic album.

I’m not a Hater but this Numbers are very strange. And I don’t care if she sells 100k or 2Miilion. Her biggest first week sales was 540k and now she sells 830k in 3 Days? It’s not like she is in her Prime Time and she sold so much. Something is starnge. Maybe Jigga made again a deal with someone to buy her Album.

    John John Reply:

@Phill, The surprise effect definitely helped. I’ve never been a legit fan, but all the hype had me quickly downloading it. My sister as well. She hasn’t really been on Beyonce since Dangerously in Love. The immediate acclaim also helped.

    FormerlyFromTokyo Reply:

@John John, I am not a member of the “Beyhive” but as soon as I heard about the album on rap-up, I snapped it right up that same day as soon as I got home from work. And I’ve been listening to it ever since. I think what worked for me too was that promo video. Whoever does her promos for her albums/concerts does a great job. The promo is part of what made me like ‘XO’ since it’s playing in it.

And Phill – word of mouth is incredibly powerful. Just ask some indie film directors or whoever involved in a project that had little to no promotion yet blew up huge. This is not an isolated incident. Also, since it’s come out, the media has been going on about it and how much it’s selling, which creates a herd effect. Maybe instead you should be questioning when artists who have such “great” “fans” can hardly move any units when they release an album. It’s because those “fans” aren’t buying but downloading. I wouldn’t buy throwaway pop either.

    Raven-Symone Reply:

@Phill, I feel the same way. I don’t think these unit are authentic but at the same time I’m sure every artist does this. There is no way Beyonce would allow herself to not push Adele and JT numbers. The album is good but not memorable. The marketing tactic will be remembered more than the product itself.

    Sushi Reply:

@Phill, It’s the surprise effect, and the always teasing the world that there would be an album. I do remember she said, “I will release and album this year”….. so… since we’re like concerned over Christmas presents and New Year.. she drops this “Surprise”… then that’s when I dug myself a grave and died.

    [Reply]

    meme Reply:

@Phill, its alot of factors. We been asking where the album at for the entire year, the surprise factor, releasing it on a payday weekend, releasing during the holidays.

    [Reply]

    nick Reply:

@Phill, put it this way, drakes album sold next to 600k first week right, and he’s shit leaked 10days early, plus he also had 3 singles out which were played out by the time the album for officially released, now imagine he did what beyonce did, all those cheap people who download wuda brought it instead givin more thousands to the first week sales

    [Reply]

    FormerlyFromTokyo Reply:

@nick, Good point. Those people who got the leak probably thought, “Why should I wait to buy it when I can get it right now?”

    [Reply]

    BluntSkeptic Reply:

@Phill, I agree the numbers are VERY strange!
Any website can lie and say that certain entertainers have hit chart topping results(digitally). If you believe otherwise, you need to “unplug” and wake up to reality! There is absolutely NO proof(e.g.receipts, physical album distribution, etc.) whatsoever!! Be”yawn”ce hasn’t sold anything, as far as I’m concerned. All the false buzz online has been created to peak the interest of all you weak-minded people that prefer LOOKING at “visual albums” instead of LISTENING to actual musical content. The idiots of the world can believe the hype, while the folks holding on to their “commmon sense” can perceive the truth of it all.

Smashing 3 records in 3 days, posting major numbers w/ NO promo that some can’t post in the full 7 days allowed, critically acclaimed as one of THE best albums of 2013 (w/ some critics wanting to revise best of lists for the year) & receiving kudos from fans (new & old, I won’t mention the celebs that have been stanning on social media for the past 3 days) on her latest piece of work. congrats bey, I am a proud fan! I look forward to the live performances on award shows (pretty hurts, flawless, rocket, etc). like I say, your gift will make room for you … you can ride wreckingballs, twerk, roll all over the floor on SNL, swing from vines roaring but at the end of the day, just let the talent speak for itself. #kingbey #flawless
