Kendrick Lamar

The good kid is going to the Grammys. Kendrick Lamar has been announced as one of the first performers for the awards show.

The Compton rapper will take the stage with alternative rock band Imagine Dragons during Music’s Biggest Night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Other performers include four-time nominee Daft Punk, marking their first television performance since the 2008 Grammys, and P!nk and Nate Ruess, who will perform together for the first time on network television.

Kendrick is nominated in seven categories including Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, and Album of the Year for his breakthrough debut good kid, m.A.A.d city.

Only two hip-hop acts, OutKast and Lauryn Hill, have won in the Album of the Year category. “That’s crazy that it’s even nominated [for Album of the Year]. That album is a really raw album; it’s not too much crossover,” he told Power 106. “So for them to even put it in that light, that’s a win by itself. If I take it home, that’s even more of a crazy feeling.”

Hosted by LL Cool J, the 56th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday, January 26, at 8 p.m. EST.
