Lauryn Hill Narrates Sundance Documentary ‘Concerning Violence’ [Trailer]

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill is not only speaking out through her music, but also in a new documentary. The Fugees frontwoman serves as narrator of Swedish filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson’s Concerning Violence.

The film, which is set to debut at this month’s Sundance Film Festival, explores African liberation movements of the 1960s and 1970s through archival footage and excerpts from psychologist Frantz Fanon’s anticolonial text The Wretched of the Earth, reports Indiewire.

Ms. Hill is set to resume her “Homecoming Series” of shows on January 26 in Huntington, NY. Throughout the month of February, she will also stop in Charlotte, Atlanta, and Miami.

Additionally, she is readying a new project, Letters From Exile, for release on her label, Obverse Creation Music.

Frantz Fanon was an amazing resistant during the 2nd world war and fight against the nazi. He was born in french island martinica and he became an algerian citizen to fight against the french for the end of colonialism.

Lauryn Hill has always impress me with her music. This documentary should show me about her.

    Superwoman Reply:

@Maks, her existence alone -in an industry where women are reduced to the brands they wear, how many tights they wear in order not to wobble while they dance half naked and How many weaves and wigs they have – is a blessing!

    I am a huge fan
and even though I am sad that she never had the success I wanted her to continue having, I am sure she is happier to have the kind of success SHE always wanted to have:

Very impressed by Lauryn Hill’s choice. I would rather see her do this than be known for endorsing designer brands/labels.
