New Music: Tinashe f/ ScHoolBoy Q – ’2 On’

2 On

While we await his major label debut Oxymoron, TDE’s ScHoolBoy Q links up with R&B newcomer Tinashe on her club-ready single “2 On.” The L.A. singer, who is signed to RCA Records, gets high and turns up with her clique, while Q parties hard on the DJ Mustard production.

Roll up and get down to their smoking joint.

    @GirlsBeLikeImissDwoods,

    Take Melanie Fiona and Sev7n out of that comparison. All different vocalists

    Kiing Reply:

    @GirlsBeLikeImissDwoods, You probably the have the money to buy the CD’s from them anyway, but they all have different vocals and I see what you mean..they have a similar sound with their new-age R&B sound..

    This song sounds good and catchy because of the production – the melody and beat.

    But listen to what she’s singing. Honestly, it sounds like some industry professional coached her into compiling a bunch of hip-hop ‘terms’/catch phrases into a quick money making hit song. Notably ‘go dumb’, ‘I’m on one’, ‘turn up’, ‘bang bang’, ‘I’m faded’, ‘go ratchet’…. smh as if we don’t have enough of this kind of R&B. Also ‘Just gimme the trees and we can smoke it yaaa’ is a verse straight from Sean Paul’s ‘We be Burnin’. Come on.

    Don’t get me wrong, Tinashae has a lovely voice. Plus I really like her song Ecstasy, but this is a step backward for her musically. I think she can do a lot better, maybe with a good mentor.

    @I’m_Da_Truuf, Yeah, it is directly from Sean Paul but a lot of songs use interpolation … notably Aloe Blacc’s “The One” as it is sort of pays homage to Elton John’s “Your Song” by saying, “And you can everybody …..”

    It’s a fun song, my God, don’t read so much into it. Her mixtape, Black Water, is dope but this is a first single and it needs to get radio play. Your criticism sounds just like the knocks J. Cole got for releasing “Work Out.”

    @I’m_Da_Truuf, Once she gets her foot in the door, meaning radio and commercial exposure, she’ll be able to display all of her talent. You talk like a purist but unfortunately cool blog love and airy vocals all day from this girl ain’t gonna get her anything but cool points from ppl like you that have the time to sit around commenting on blogs. She has a career to build and she put in her work- it’s time to grow now… This shit bangs!!!! nobody wants to hear some deep lyrical shit when they in the club.. you wanna drink and dance fool!!!!

    Prick James Reply:

    @I’m_Da_Truuf, I just look at it as her compromise to RCA. I agree it’s not her best, and not one of my personal favorites but Blackwater and ger other mixtapes are dope so I’ll still get her album day one even knowing it might not be as good as her mixtapes cuz I support her.
