New Music: K. Michelle – ‘I Don’t Believe’

I Don't Believe

On Valentine’s Day, K. Michelle will release her highly-anticipated mixtape Still No Fucks Given. The R&B songstress shares some candid confessions on the first offering, “I Don’t Believe,” a cover of Frank Ocean’s “We All Try.” She flips the lyrics, singing about her single status and even throws shade at the competition.

“I don’t believe in you / Your album sales ain’t true / I believe strippers should get health insurance too,” sings K.

She also addresses her Grammy snub: “I don’t believe the Grammys didn’t nominate me / I’m a little ratchet, but my music’s everything.”

The “Love & Hip Hop” star recently announced her departure from the series and will start filming her own VH1 show “No New Friends” this month.

On February 21, she will hit the road with Robin Thicke on his North American tour.

She’s still shading Tamar I see …. bitter and arrogant. That album was not Grammy worthy, there are great R&B albums still flying under the radar that got snubbed as well.

@Liam, She Didn’t Shade Tamar She Pass That Stage, Album Don’t Have To Be Grammy Worth But V.S.O.P Could Have Been Nominated She is A Wonderful Artist Why Hate And Violate Her What Has She Done To You

@Liam, “there are great R&B albums still flying under the radar that got snubbed as well.”

Indeed. The Electric Lady was universally praised, but because of what she sings, I guess Janelle cannot touch that brass ring. But I give it to her for making music that SHE likes and not music to gain the approval/acceptance from those who don’t really care for her or her type anyway.

@FormerlyFromTokyo, The Grammys’ failure to nominate Monae should have tipped us off that they would be committing some fuckery this year, but we wanted to believe that a black boy could fly, and that’s OUR fault.
I agree with you that some great albums get snubbed, but Michelle’s was not a great album.
She can sing, but that has yet to come across in her recorded material, this happens all the time (Jennifer Hudson, Candice Glover, other singing competition winners).
    K. Michelle won’t really begin to be successfully on a Grammy-worthy level until she breaks away from Love&Hip Hop, and mixtape-making.

@marcus gary, when did she shade tamar , hunty ? Don’t make an issue where there is not one. If you don’t like K. simply don’t listen to her? Why waste your time and comment on something you don’t like ?

Her music sucks and she’s not bringing anything new to the R&B game. We already have Keyshia Cole & Mary J. Blige already. And shading Tamar is so 2013! Let it go, horse body!

I didn’t know people disliked K. Michelle and her music so. I love this song. She reaches me.

@The Shaded Truth, I think it’s because there’s been a lot of instances when she’s had a nasty attitude and has lashed out. :o/ If she can just make music that reaches people and leave out the “extra” I think she might be better regarded.

Well, not on the internet. Anything that’s not singer vs singer will be made singer vs singer, so nevermind.

WTF? Do yall keep saying she shaded Tamar ? When? Where? Yall are dumb ! She tried to make amends with Tamar the day the Soul Train awards came on and Tamar did not accept , she has yet to say anything to or about Tamar since then. If you do not like K. Michelle simply don’t listen and comment on her music. . . Any singer who thinks they make good music would question why they weren’t nominated for an award?
