Bruno Mars Performs at Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show

Bruno Mars and Anthony Kiedis

Bruno Mars has sold out arenas around the world, but he played for his biggest audience yet when he headlined the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Accompanied by his eight-piece band, the Hooligans, the Grammy-winning crooner put on a sensational 13-minute performance—complete with dancing, pyro, and shiny suits. A children’s choir kicked it off with “Billionaire” before Bruno performed Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” on his drums, which said “Bernadette” in tribute to his late mother. He launched into a medley of his hits including “Locked Out of Heaven,” “Treasure,” and “Runaway Baby.”

He also shared the stage with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for “Give It Away,” jumping up and down in his gold Saint Laurent jacket with Anthony Kiedis and Flea. The performance capped off with a dazzling fireworks display as a solo Bruno sang his No. 1 single “Just the Way You Are.”

On May 27, Bruno will kick off the next leg of his “Moonshine Jungle World Tour” with special guests Pharrell and Aloe Blacc. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

That. Was. Amazing… Two years in a row of pure raw talent performing at the SuperBowl Halftime Show. Can’t wait to see who they pick next year!

    Come on Broncos! :)

This was raw talent on stage. Bruno is a vocalist, he plays instruments and is a pretty good dancer. I was really impressed but most importantly, an older audience got to witness his finesse on stage. My parents were shocked to find out that someone who makes music for my generation actually has talent, lol. It was very good and all kudos to him.

Mediocre as expected. I’m not saying it was bad but it was just like any other of his performances.

@Natasha, lol you are so obviously jealous

    Natasha Reply:

@Speechless, I actually am jealous, I wish I could be up there. But it was underwhelming to say the least. In no way was it a bad performance, it was actually good. After Beyoncé and Madonna I expected a little more than him wearing matching suits with his bands doing a small little dance routine cause that’s what he always does.

@Natasha, “Mediocre”???? Ha. So have we redefined that word along with “classy” and whatever other words that make little to no sense anymore? At least you admitted your jealousy.

Not a Bruno Mars fan, but I recognize his talent and admire his versatility and energy. I’m sure they had to file a police report because he straight murdered that stage. RHCP did their thing, but they were superfluous (except I suspect they added them for the guys in the audience – who they might have assumed wouldn’t be into Bruno).

So the Beyoncé fans told me that this would be a boring performance. Ya’ll were wrong as fuck. Bruno got bars hopping when he pulled TRHCP out. Most of you BeyHives are all girls & gays, so you wouldn’t understand the excitement when TRHCP came out and told us to jump.

This performance was nothing but raw talent. No fancy dancers, fancy costume change, no corny ass hair flipping, weave-flipping, grunts, and umphs. Like… He didn’t need those. He just needed his voice & a classic rock band to help pump up the game.

Like.. I love me some Beyoncé.. But Beyoncé wouldn’t be without her hair flips, weave, and dancer.

Hell of a performance (best part of the GAME, obviously lol). Bruno made all the haters out to be even more idiotic than they are for criticizing real talent. My only criticism is that he didn’t perform “Grenade.” But, yeah, that Grammy is well deserved. Unorthodox Jukebox is the truth!

Beyonce Couldn’t be beaten with her Halftime show. This wasn’t bad… highlight was when RHCP rocked the stage

Whoever doubted that Bruno couldnt deliver is officially wrong now! I think he could have carried the show by himself as great as he did with the RCHP. Im proud for being a fan of his!

  13. oooh

Well Beyoncé doesn t need Red hot Chili Pepers to rock that stage up…

That show was so great, but come on : who can beat Beyoncé ? NO ONE

  14. mumi

Well, that was boring. Bey owned the stage last year.

    [Reply]

    Major Sushi Reply:

@mumi, with exotic dancers, flashing lights, weave flipping… yeah.. she owned the stage with her props. without it, she’d be boring

Im not gone lie I was a doubter, but he did a GREAT job. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers were unnecessary.

He was amazing. I wish he cut out the Red Hot Chilli Peppers so he could perform The Lazy Song though lol.
Wait he needs to do some more features, don’t you think?

I really loved when the Red Hot Chili Peppers came out with Bruno and his great band, and kept that Turnt up high energy just flowing. The only thing that would have been better is if the dance machine Ciara had came out with Bruno!!!

WOW! They did the dang thing! Nothing against the RHCP (cause they did great), but I would have loved to have seen Bruno with Janelle Monae. They would have absolutely KILLED it!
