Kanye West and Seth Meyers

After wrapping his “Yeezus Tour” on Sunday, Kanye West blessed Seth Meyers’ NYC studio during the second episode of his “Late Night” show. The G.O.O.D. Music mastermind sat down for a 10-minute interview, where he discussed touring, how fatherhood has inspired his new music, and creating “sonic paintings.”

“That’s why I do TV. That’s why I come and do talk shows, so you guys can have a [glitch] in the matrix every now and then,” said ‘Ye. “I could care less about these cameras, but what I do care about is history, I care about people, I care about you guys getting the best product possible.”

He also performed a five-minute medley of his hits including “Jesus Walks,” “Touch the Sky,” “Stronger,” “Heartless,” “All of the Lights,” “Mercy,” and “Black Skinhead.”

On his tour: “I thought it went really good. It’s kinda sad when it’s over ’cause you put so much into it and so many people are really excited to see it. It’s fun to be able to express something that you created.”

On wearing masks onstage: “The mask is great. It’s freeing. A place where you can express yourself to your audience, to everyone, without being judged having to live up to whatever your name is supposed to represent. Just to feel like a new artist again. That’s the reason I perform most of the show in a mask.”

On his gift: “I give you paintings, sonic paintings. I have synesthesia like I can see sound in front of me. When I wanna do fashion, I just want to give you sculptures. So it’s like Michelangelo, the church wanted him to paint and he wanted to do sculptures. The difficult thing for me that everyone doesn’t understand is, I just want to be able to use marble and make sculptures. But due to the fact that I’m a celebrity and all these different things, they’re like, no you can’t do this, you have to do this kind of line.”

On breaking barriers: “People are like now in this day and age, if you don’t believe it, it’s like, ‘No, Kanye you can’t run faster. This is the limit that was made. The walls that Michael Jackson, Jay Z, and Russell Simmons broke down for you, this is the end of it.’ I’m in the process of breaking down walls that people will understand 10 years from now, 20 years from now.”

On how fatherhood has inspired his new music: “I think artistic, intellectual kid-friendly songs. Meaning like, you go to Europe, it’s nudity on TV. So it’s all in the way you raise and have an understanding and appreciation for what you’re looking at and what you’re hearing and why you’re hearing it.”
